any one have any of these 20' sticks? I actually came across an awesome deal, well I think it was awesome ... 2 sets for $40 plus tax. I hope they are worth it ... seen some decent reviews
2.) Swamp Fox - 02/14/2015
I think OhioBuckhunter told me he uses Ameristep ladders. He recommended them. Yours seem like an extra-good steal.

Sportsman's Guide usually has an inexpensive ladder for about $35-39 each. They might be Ameristep or a clone.

I haven't used them, though, except maybe a used set or two that I have might be Ameristep.

As long as you have enough room between the step and the tree for your boots, they probably can't screw them up, even for $20 a set. :wink
3.) ARCHERXP - 02/14/2015
i found a really good deal on a new lone wolf portable on eBay.

i don't have any experience with ameristep though.

how heavy are they?
4.) DropzOfWild - 02/14/2015
23lbs I seen the same sticks for $70 a set..... what'd you give for your wolf portable? I love lone wolf and search all the time for good deals
5.) ARCHERXP - 02/14/2015
23lbs isn't bad for 20ft

i got the hand climber combo ii for $189. made sure it was the made in usa one. =)

i think i lucked out. i haven't found a deal like that at all.
6.) ARCHERXP - 02/14/2015
it was brand new too =) best part about it
7.) Swamp Fox - 02/14/2015
I'm gonna have to start shopping where you all are, LOL. Those are some smoking deals.

I need 25 feet in a ladder most places, so anything I buy has to be extendable. OBH told me his were (also told me the straps were crap and that I should count on buying decent rachets).

I like the Rivers Edge ladders (extendable and light, especially to have full horizontal steps, i.e., not staggered) but they're $70 a set on sale (20 ft.), and you can't find them until close to the season, I'm learning. I really don't want to be setting stands in July....Waaaaaa!!!! :rage: :bang:
8.) DropzOfWild - 02/14/2015
holy smokes ARCHER! lost for words..... that's probably close, if not $200 less than actual selling price

Swampy..... I always have my stands out in June/July ...season starts for us here Sept 15th and one of the best ways to get a nice'n is to be on the early feeding patterns. I go in and place cams in easy to get to spots(regular for me now) and watch once a week to check for big prospects(starting March/April), if nothing prevails I move the cams, I keep doing the weekly checks on a regular pattern that way they know and I know we won't surprise each other until I find that one, then I back off the cam to make em think that I've left and moved on placing a set 30-40 yards from the travel area in a good ambush spot no limb cutting if possible then leave cam placed and slide in close to opening day evening/morning which ever is best set up and look at pics from cam while I sit in stand.... almost all my big huge ones fall off grid a week before I hit the spot (they know)
Not that you wanted all this lol
Keep searching for sticks ... I do almost daily .. I don't have to be more than 16' for the areas but I've been more successful @ 20'+
9.) DropzOfWild - 02/14/2015
My main goal was to get 4 sets so that my scardey cat buddy could have a top and bottom section (8') and I could use the 3 middle sections one for each set and make 24 footers for my bottom branch locations for late season .... extendable is the way to go but nothing beats my mobile hang on with sticks
holy smokes ARCHER! lost for words..... that's probably close, if not $200 less than actual selling price
you're tellin me! I couldn't press "buy now" quick enough.

i spend a lot of time on eBay and amazon when sitting in the porcelain palace lol
11.) Swamp Fox - 02/14/2015
A 25 ft ladder is a little harder to raise by yourself than a 20 footer is, especially in the woods, but that's what I need.

I've noticed that fewer guys want to climb screw-in steps these days, especially as stand height or hunter age increases. I like the ladders for setting up in hot weather or in-season, too. Otherwise, most of my stands are done with screw-in steps well-before it gets too hot.

Or at least that's the game plan, LOL.

I'd been double tapping!
13.) DropzOfWild - 02/15/2015
I don't do screw in steps... I've tried a few times and they just seem too much of a pain in the rump and I
m concerned with tree health also. I try to minimize damage and I think that's another reason I have a hard time cutting a lot of branches for shooting lanes
14.) crookedeye - 02/15/2015
I fell from a tree once and my buddy had a tree step snap..
15.) crookedeye - 02/15/2015
I'm always telling my buddys to be safe before we go hunting..just to etch that in there mind..
16.) Swamp Fox - 02/15/2015
In 25 years, there will be an electric hoist so you can snap into a hook and line and it will wind you up into your tree, easy peasy.

As you approach the stand, you'll be able to activate your Ozonics machine from 300 yards away with the special remote, too.

17.) DropzOfWild - 02/15/2015
I fell off a ladder stand one time taking it, out about 10', didn't seem that bad at the time but it did hurt & knock the wind outta me. I don't hunt anywhere with no one knowing where I'm at and shoot my wife or buddy a text every 30 minutes for safety... they don't get a msg they send me one.. no reply they come to the set I'm in... happened twice cause of service failure but better to be safe then sorry
18.) DropzOfWild - 02/15/2015
ozonics .... i wouldn't mind trying that someday..... when the price drops
19.) crookedeye - 02/15/2015
I have this one stand in the woods for about 109 years 9times out of 10 i'm not wearing a harness..i always check it for weight by putting pressure on it while holding onto the tree..lol I think i'm done being stupid .. it only takes a second..!!

now days if I fall its going to hurt..
20.) crookedeye - 02/15/2015
my time when I fell I was building a stand out of 2 by 4's and plywood..i was swinging around like a monkey from one side of the oak tpo the other..i should have put more nails into the 2 by 4..needless to say the 2 by 4 broke loose and I fell on my back..my buddy said I screamed..but I still challenge him that I didn't scream..

all seriousness i'm lucky there wasn't a stick that I fell on..
21.) Swamp Fox - 02/15/2015
Some of us are glad you're still with us...

I heard you can get a better price if you get cremated ahead of time, plus you'd have that out of the way.........just sayin'.

I haven't heard anything bad about the Ameristep sticks, Bob Peck would be the guy to ask, he's tried everything more than once. I'm done with screw in steps, except for the first 3. Always use screw ins and then take them out with me for the first 3 steps.

Why are you so concerned about tree damage in relation to shooting lanes DOW? If you watched me in Feb. or Mar., you'd be in tears. I show them no mercy.

63.) crookedeye - 02/16/2015
you can actuall get youre ashes loaded into a shotgun shell and shot off in the air..that sounds exciting... theres all kinds of potential out there if you look hard enough..
