If you had to hunt one weekend in December and skip another, which ones would you choose for which slot? I'm mostly thinking about early and mid-December, but if you have thoughts about the late month, have at it.

Also interested in any interesting (sentimental? traditional?) reasons for December hunts, or general thoughts on how you approach the month.

If I can still legally hunt in December, I will. Hunted today.
I enjoy October more because bucks are sparring and the rut is around the corner. Also, the tree colors are spectacular.

were heading out the last week of hunting season, i usually take my crossbow out and hunt off the ground, i shot a button buck last year using this method....lol i could of swore he was a doe..

we go out just because its the last few days of deer season. plus just to get out in the woods again.

I always liked going out New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Last chance in NC and SC. Always seemed important and symbolic. Never did any good, but always felt good.

Except for one time ... But that's a long story.

I think as far as the early month goes, I'd hunt the weekend after Thanksgiving weekend and take the next one off to go shopping for a holiday tree or something. Sometimes you get a little buck activity in early December so an early Thanksgiving can mean the next TWO weekends prolly should get hunted. Skip the third.

It's a head-scratcher, though. I think my best rifle buck came on Dec. 7 or 9 or thereabouts (private land) and the latest I've ever heard sparring was something like December 11 or 17 (also private land). As far as public land goes, December has always been a waste of time for me, and for anyone I know.

Also, I think it makes some sense to skip the mornings in December and just hunt afternooons. It appeals to my revulsion for getting up at 3:30 or 4 in the morning without a really good reason, plus my increasing hatred of cold weather. I know: It's all in my mind, but still ...

However, mornings have been far better to me on public land at any time of year, so there's that. On the other hand, and maybe it's where I've hunted most, but December + mornings + bucks = zilch X zero X nada.

What's everyone else's experience in December?
