Ive always heard that late season, a single hen decoy works best. while other times i here a strutting gobbler decoy works best. im almost to the point i dont want to use any decoys at all..

They're more trouble than they're worth most times, but I am not hunting open spaces as much as you are.
I think if a gobbler can hear a hen he's interested, and if he's close enough to see where he should see a hen you better show him a hen, or chop his head off right then. Anything over that is just a soap opera .... 3.) Swamp Fox - 05/01/2020
Late season (here) is when I'm least inclined to use decoys.
Gobblers are desperate. They will try to find you... Are most hens on the nest by you? (I would think so.) 4.) crookedeye - 05/01/2020
shoot anything yet? i never went this year because of the virus.. i believe they might open my campgrounds may 8th.. my buddy shot the biggest bird i seen with a old flambue feeder decoy. we/i called in the bird from a mile away no lie..i had the perfect setup my buddy was a hundred yards away from me, i had my davesmith decoys out and the bird walk by me and hung out by his decoy.

Obamanomics and now the virus have done a number on me... I have only a fraction of the free time I used to.
I was supposed to be taking some guys hunting this weekend, but that got nixed. Next week was supposed to be "my" week but the ball's still in the air. The birds are gobbling good when I go to listen.... They're not getting the pressure. I think (here) the next two years will be good for gobbling, if it stays dry. |
