Got word from him, he has survived to this point at least. Surgeon is happy with the results. He will head home tomorrow and then be on his laptop, then on here I assume. He will be on narcotics so mess with his mind as much as possible.

You know, tell him this is still 1997. If we can get Swampy to post pics of himself with his clothes and vehicle, should be an easy sell.
2.) Swamp Fox - 01/05/2015
Ha! Good one!

We all know you still have a ton of TreBark camo, so don't get on me!

:-)
3.) luv2bowhunt - 01/05/2015
Got rid of the Trebark, mostly, but my favorite cold weather coat is in Advantage. :re: Went through my camo just before season, threw out a bunch of stuff that was the original ugly Realtree.

The stuff that looked like straight lines and dots drawn by a 6 yr old.
4.) Swamp Fox - 01/05/2015
This would be a good time to sell him my Browning BL-22 he was asking about the other day...:wink
5.) luv2bowhunt - 01/05/2015
Yeah, he'll be completely disoriented. Get him to post his credit card info if you can, I could use a new climber.
6.) Swamp Fox - 01/05/2015
Advantage was one of the all-time best camo patterns! I have several packs and many accessory pouches in it. Pretty sure I was a Natgear guy by then for clothes, though. Unless something didn't come in Natgear...Then I always picked Advantage. :tu:
7.) Swamp Fox - 01/05/2015
Yeah, he'll be completely disoriented. Get him to post his credit card info if you can, I could use a new climber.
8.) Swamp Fox - 01/05/2015
At the risk of taking the attention off Wild Bob before he stumbles in here, what are you looking for in a climber/trying to improve?
9.) Swamp Fox - 01/05/2015
Oh, okay, sure...Run away...

See if I care...
10.) luv2bowhunt - 01/05/2015
Yada, yada, yada.

I don't use a climber much, but I really would like an upgrade from my API Bowhunter. I'd like something lighter, something that packs flat. I really, really, don't like packing up the API in the dark after an evening hunt. Noisy, cumbersome, stupid straps that I replaced with bungee cords.

Really don't like climbers anyway, but sometimes in a pinch, you need one.
11.) bluecat - 01/05/2015
You guys are terrible! Okay, I'm in.
12.) Swamp Fox - 01/05/2015
Other than not packing completely flat, one of the Treewalkers might fit your bill. They carry well and pack flat enough, except at the top. Which is a lot better than those abominations that are all metal bars and arms everywhere below your butt. Still, I wouldn't go cross country with the ones I have. Maybe the smallest one would make a difference. Anyway, REALLY nice stands. Extremely well made, can be versatile and comfortable (I'll have something to say on that later if need be). They reassemble easily enough in the dark with a little bit of practice.

I'm still a fan of two particular versions of the original Loggy Bayou for a mobile climber.

Gotta see a man about a horse right now but I'll be here all week.

Try the veal!
13.) Deerminator - 01/05/2015
i'M STILL USING MY Baker, Mighty Mite climber , works great:tu:
light, packs easy
14.) billy b - 01/06/2015
What kind of surgery did he have?
15.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
I think it's his back been giving him trouble lately.
16.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
Here's a quick story Wild Bob will enjoy:

A few days ago, my buddy Boo-Boo and I went squirrel hunting to celebrate the New Year. 1997 is going to be a lot better year than '96. How do I know? The Bronco just turned 13,000 miles and 13 is one of my lucky numbers. So we drove to the edge of the swamp and got ready to shake some vines.

photo 9ff398ba-db2e-4650-a020-efa83a073a1a_zpsd6a47523.jpg

Along the way, I found several impressive rubs. You always wonder why you can never find these early enough in the season to do something about it. But I read a lot of deer hunting magazines, and so I like to think I'm always learning. Someone should find a way to put some hunting tips on CD-ROM. With more and more people using computers these days, that seems like it would be a good way to get a lot of information from the experts without them having to write books and you having to buy them. And it's not like there are a lot of experts out there who are willing to give you hunting advice in the first place.

photo 467d1bf1-9456-43a6-b233-ee549d765e5d_zps56d55aeb.jpg

For some reason, we didn't have a whole lot of luck on squirrels, so we decided to pull some treestands out of the woods and head home. When we got there, I had a lot of messages on the answering machine to take care of, so Boo-Boo wrote some letters he'd been putting off, and then we watched Marty Stouffer's Wild America because it was the only wildlife- oriented show on, and if we missed it, we'd have to wait til next week to see it, and they might never repeat this one, which was about otters.
17.) luv2bowhunt - 01/06/2015
What kind of surgery did he have?
Back surgery, problem with a disc or two. Plus he had been walking around during hunting season with a dislocated hip, didn't even know it. You think a dislocated hip will stop Bob? He doesn't care, he doesn't give a s___. He just keeps on walking across the big sky country and does what he wants.
18.) bluecat - 01/06/2015
I'm just glad Windows 97 is coming out soon. That 95 was full of bugs I tell you. Full. I couldn't even hook up my modem without the blue screen of death.
19.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
That reminds me: I think I can get DSL now...or broadband. Something. I don't know. I got some kind of notice from the phone company but it was Greek to me. And what's Roadrunner? Is that a company or a type of a connection? What's it for, and do I need it? Like, I know AOL is a company but I'm with Southern Bell. And AT&T for long distance, I think. How does that all work? I don't know. I just pay the bills when they come in.

I'm so confused.
20.) Deerminator - 01/06/2015
Are they cutting something off or adding something on:cf:

Looking forward to your return WB

I know right? My damn screen saver keeps kicking in. How do I stop it?
22.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
Is it one that came with the computer or did you buy it separately? I have one with random motivational quotes that rotate around like Pong, and it works pretty good. I mean at saving my screen. I'm still not any more motivated than I used to be.

But I've only had it a couple of years.
23.) bluecat - 01/06/2015
It's a fish thing I bought from the computer store. Crazy. If you are interested I could send you a disk. Do you have an Iomega drive? It holds something like 100MB! What the hell?
24.) bluecat - 01/06/2015
BTW, have you taken the carbon arrow plunge yet? I'm thinking of finally giving it a try. I'm always the last to try new things.
25.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
I heard carbon arrows were a no-go with Fast-Flyte strings. I think that's what I have on my Browning. I've only had it about eight years but I've forgotten the specs already. Anyway, it's either the string material or the teardrop cables that I heard would give me problems with carbon arrows. Something. Anyway, Easton just came out with the XX75's in Predator camo, and they look really cool, so I'm gonna give some new 2314's a try this year.
26.) bluecat - 01/06/2015

I don't blame you. Until they work through those outsert issues on those Bemans, I'll stick with my Easton's too. Those outserts would hit my TM Hunter rest anyway.

Is it just me or does Michael Jackson look a little lighter than I remember him? Just got his latest CD from the CD club I belong too. Bitchin...
27.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
I was just gonna mention my TM Hunter rest! Best $22 I ever spent! Beats the hell out of those berger buttons. I wore those out almost as fast as I lost the feeling in my finger tips. Then somebody showed me a shooting glove and a light bulb went off in my head. I mean it went on. So now I think I'm ready to finally kill a deer with a bow.

I heard about a bow that would do 210 FPS today. I don't even know how they calculate that. I wonder how much faster that is than mine? I guess I could see if the bowshop has the old catalogs from 1989. Maybe there's information in there.

210? Are you sure about that? If this means what I think it means, then goodbye overdraws!
30.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
Yeah, you're right. But you know, I was thinking, if you could invent a rest that sat back from the shelf like an overdraw plus kept your arrow from bouncing off on the draw, you'd make a fortune.

I mean, I'm shooting two wheels but some of these bows with these "cam" doo-dads are pretty skippy.
31.) bluecat - 01/06/2015

Yeah, well as long as we are dreaming about a rest that not only "holds" the arrow, it allows it to release as well we might as well start dreaming about pins with lazer beams.

Good luck with all that.
32.) bluecat - 01/06/2015
I'm thinking of sending a tape of all my "Married with Children episodes up to Wild Bob for his recovery. This is the final season. :(
33.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
Well, I keep hearing about this fiber optic stuff. Have you seen it? It's like little bits of plastic that glow. The only problem is that it only glows when it's light out. I don't see the point. I put some fluorescent paint on the pin of my pendulum sight and I can shoot all the way til maybe five minutes after sunset, unless I'm back in the woods where it's darker.
34.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
I'm thinking of sending a tape of all my "Married with Children episodes up to Wild Bob for his recovery. This is the final season. :(
I think he'd enjoy that. He's a big Christina Applegate fan. Also Celine Dion, Sarah McLachlan and Melissa Etheridge, so if you have any cassettes...
35.) bluecat - 01/06/2015
Those plastic glow things would never hold up even if they did work. You would need to encase them in something harder. Just not gonna happen. I like where technology is pushing us but hey when you have a big ass bow like mine with hatchet cams, why do you need to worry about distance? :tu:

Have you seen some of the short 42" axle to axle bows? What are they thinking? They don't even look like bows anymore.
36.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
A friend of mine has a bow with three wheels. I think that's the wave of the future. I've picked up some of the shorter bows and they don't feel too bad. I like the big fat cushiony rubber grips on a lot of them.
37.) bluecat - 01/06/2015

Melissa seems happier now that she has come out.
38.) Swamp Fox - 01/06/2015
There's something kinda funny about that Ellen DeGeneres chick, too, but we'll probably never know.

That OJ thing's kinda crazy, too, huh? I don't know why I just thought of that.
39.) bluecat - 01/07/2015
Read this morning in my new copy of SI that Peyton Manning will likely forgo the NFL to come back for his senior season. Folks at Tennessee will be glad to hear that. I think he could use another year. Most players think they are ready for the NFL before they are ready. Peyton will likely never be as good as his father but I'm sure the Manning family will be proud of him for giving the NFL his best effort when the time comes. Hopefully, if he is drafted, he will find a team that doesn't play in inclement weather. Peyton would not know how to handle that.

LOL...That WAS pretty good.

I wish Luv2 would get on this thread, but I know he's busy with small children at home.

And I don't know what the deal is with Crookedeye. Ever since he got that cell phone on his job he doesn't come around much any more. It's supposed to be for work only, but I've heard him calling Dominos on it.
42.) bluecat - 01/07/2015
I don't know if Bob likes boxing or not, but Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson are gonna fight this year to see who is champion once and for all. I won't chew your ear off with all the speculation on how it will go but it should be a classic. Something to look forward to Bob.
43.) Swamp Fox - 01/07/2015
Man, I tell you...I don't mean to get all political and stuff, but Clinton is in love with himself, isn't he?

I believe if he could clone himself, he'd like to get some nookie from himself in the Oval Office. And if they ever figure out a way to clone sheep, look out sheep! He'd go through them like Pringles...
44.) bluecat - 01/07/2015
Bob, if you are a reader, I've heard some talk about a new book called Harry Potter. It's kind of a fanciful escape book apparently. Probably a passing fad.
You could search for it on Webcrawler down at the local library.

I saw a guy using one the other day. It had a light on the front so it was not only a phone but a mini flashlight. How cool is that!

Hillary is some kinda bowser no?

At least she won't get in the way and stir things up.
47.) Swamp Fox - 01/07/2015
Bluecat, the Post Office called and said they need you to clean out your mailbox. Apparently the Columbia House Record Club is having trouble reaching you.
48.) bluecat - 01/07/2015
That serves me right. I ordered the 12 free records and then cancelled but apparantly they forgot to cancel my membership. Probably just a clerical error on their part - one in a million chance this happens to someone else. So the records have been coming non-stop to my P.O. Box for a while now.
49.) Swamp Fox - 01/07/2015
Let me know if this causes any problem getting the purely conversational note I mailed you today.
50.) bluecat - 01/07/2015
I'll tell my mail lady to keep on eye out for it and if it comes while I'm gone, I'll have her put it on my dining room table.
51.) bluecat - 01/08/2015
Swampy, do you know where I can get those little rubber buttons that go on the string next to the brass nock so when I clip onto the string the release doesn't pinch the arrow? I sent
Cabelas a check awhile ago but apparently they lost it. I'm just not willing to wait any longer.

I've seen some releases where there is just one side that moves. Looks interesting. Do they work?

I've been busy dealing with the bad news about Guns and Roses. Sounds like they're not going to do another studio album and might even break up. I told my wife that will never happen. If it does, I'll shave off my mullet.

I said about the same thing a few years ago, except it was about my earring. I said if ever somebody came along that was worse for country music than Garth Brooks, I would give it up, and then along came Toby Keith. At least Garth Brooks talks about retiring every once in a while, so I guess there's hope.

The only way country music could get any worse is if there was a show on TV and fourteen year-old girls voted on the phone for who was the best singer. You ever tried to get a phone away from a fourteen year-old girl? The only thing that keeps them from going to bed with the damn thing is the cord doesn't reach that far from the kitchen. I just hope no one invents something on the phone where if you're too lazy to dial seven digits you can just hit one button and the call goes through. The kids'll never survive the muscle atrophy.

The release is hook and loop. I think the trade name is Velcro.
57.) bluecat - 01/08/2015
A friend of mine took his TM hunter rest and took the spring out of it. Then he tied some fast flite string to one of the forks and served it into the down cable. When he drew back, the forks on the TM hunter rest lifted up and when he released his fingers the fork moved down. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why he wanted to do it but he said that the fletching wouldn't contact the fork. I told him to quit jacking around and frankensteining stuff and that he might put his eye out. Why fix a problem that doesn't exist?
58.) Swamp Fox - 01/08/2015
He should just stick with feathers. Problem solved.

Some people are way too into gizmos, but I think the trend is back to simplicity and not so much technology.
59.) bluecat - 01/09/2015
Hey CE, now that you've had a chance to experience the new Big 12, what do you think? I think it will be a solid league because it is built around the Big 8. I don't think it will be subject to all the wheelings and dealings some of the other leagues have to deal with - teams dropping out, teams being recruited. With a name like Big 12 you've kind of locked yourself into having 12 teams in the league though. LOL!

At least our oldest rivalries, Missouri and Nebraska are going to continue. I definately can't see these teams turning their back on history and of course Tom Osborne would never let that happen anyway.
60.) crookedeye - 01/11/2015

Im sure its from roofing and working hard all my life..whats gets me is you have to have a certain time and reason on how you hurt it..i tell my safty guy it from busting my balls off for this company for 22 years.. I guess it doesn't work like that, I know something is wrong with my back but all the stuff I need to go through before someone actually knows what wrong with it is something I don't do..

Sounds great! :wink

My wife bought me a boat load of magazines to read through-out all this (Handloader, Pointing Dog, Bowhunter, Safari Gazette, Rifle, ....etc.) and I've burned through them all. I've even downloaded three books and read them and now I'm starting on my 4th! Yesterday I got the kids Xbox controller and tried my hand at Red Dead Redemption, Gears of War, and several others that I don't even remember the names. (Drugs, super fast paced video games, and 46 don't mix all that well...I didn't do very good. :duh:)

Climbing the walls a bit...so I'm game for what ever! LOL

I can neither confirm nor deny anything about that rifle, except that it is a Kimber .22 K22 Classic and a death ray.

Nice pillows.

They're part of the Dunkin Donuts Collection...

Not to be confused with the Cindy Crawford Collection.

Notice the brilliant counter-intuitive marketing tactic: You charge Nestle for a straightforward product placement, and then you pixilate the Dunkin Donuts box so everyone's saying, "That looks like a Dunkin Donuts box...I wonder if that has something to do with where she got those pillows?" It creates buzz on the street far beyond what a traditional advertisement would net you.

Yeah, it kind of sucks the air out of the room for Nestle chocolate drinks, but that's why they're paying the standard rate and Dunkin Donuts pays a premium.
80.) bluecat - 01/15/2015
It might have been more prudent just to pixilate the whole thing and leave us wondering what the hell we were even looking at...

Ain't happin' dude (That being me)...Bear season looms in May. I'm already up walking regular laps around the house every hour. My wife fussed at me yesterday, because I had the boys shoveling a path for me so I can go out and walk laps in the back yard. :-)

Crappy news on Friday (yesterday)...Doc won't clear me to drive or go back to work until 19th of Feb at the earliest. :td:

I wouldn't exactly say I've been missing work...

But on the other hand; I am going a bit stir-crazy being shut down and cooped up; especially with the nice weather we've recently been having.
86.) crookedeye - 01/25/2015

Stay away from the Cabelas catalogs, Wild Bob!

You could take requests for custom handloading to keep you busy. I have a couple of items I can't find anywhere. I'm almost to the point I'd buy someone the dies, LOL...

Other ideas for Wild Bob's Excellent Recovery:

Making Dream Catchers

Writing Cowboy Poetry

Repairing Fishing Nets

Renaming all his trout flies

Learning to sew buttons and patches

Cleaning power tools and drop cords

Writing twice-weekly letter to his congressman

Creating new account at PETA forum and explaining ins and out of trapping in long first post

I'm sure we can come up with some other ideas to keep Wild Bob's idle hands from getting him into trouble...

Kansas has a season on snipe, just sayin'.

Go Bob go!
97.) Swamp Fox - 01/26/2015
I've never hunted snipe but I've guided for them a time or two. :wink

Actually, I'm a pretty horrible wingshot (right handed, left-eye dominant and don't practice) so bird or duck hunting of any sort is something I don't have much interest in. Turkeys obviously excepted.

But if there were three birds I think I could get into in my next life, I think they might be snipe, woodcock and rails.

Here's a good essay on snipe hunting:

Good read.

If you can hit one of those, you've done something. I used to flush one each time I went through the same patch of marshy ground on my way to the duck blind. I would just stand there in amazement. Free pass.

Wild Bob is being coy. You wouldn't pick up on the true meaning and cleverness of his deflection unless you'd read his collection of poems Making a Home Where the Buffalo Roam.

He is slyly referring to the shocking first poem of his groundbreaking masterpiece:

Baaa Means How You Doin'?

I'm shy and in a fragile state.

The sheep begin to agitate.

I've said that I must wash my hair,

But these sheep persist, and that I swear.

Why A Fake Article Titled "Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs?" Was Accepted By 17 Medical Journals

A Harvard scientist wanted to see exactly how easy it is to get medical research published. In some cases, $500 is pretty much all it takes.

Shrime decided to see how easy it would be to publish an article. So he made one up. Like, he literally made one up. He did it using www.randomtextgenerator.com. The article is entitled "Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs?" and its authors are the venerable Pinkerton A. LeBrain and Orson Welles. The subtitle reads: "The surgical and neoplastic role of cacao extract in breakfast cereals." Shrime submitted it to 37 journals over two weeks and, so far, 17 of them have accepted it. (They have not "published" it, but say they will as soon as Shrime pays the $500. This is often referred to as a "processing fee." Shrime has no plans to pay them.) Several have already typeset it and given him reviews, as you can see at the end of this article. One publication says his methods are "novel and innovative"!. But when Shrime looked up the physical locations of these publications, he discovered that many had very suspicious addresses; one was actually inside a strip club.

That's funny, I kind of did the same thing with a publishing group one time where I submitted a poem to see if they would publish it. I got an email saying they were looking for great poetry and blah blah blah, pay them x-amount of money and voila, you will be published (after meeting rigorous scrutiny of course).

My poem, an original.

There was a man
He live, he die
That is all
bye bye.

I'm Cuckoo for Cuoco.

I like her and Shatner in those Priceline commercials.

My two favorites are when he tells her "Your accent needs a little work" after seeing her for the first time in 20 years ("You mastered the art of monkey-style kung fu?"), and the one where he's in the Siberian prison camp:
Bob, you got anything with Miss Kitty and a saloon shootout?
I found this near the end of the trail...I mean the collection:

A Drink Before

Whiskey whispers loud of dusty trails.

Sarsaparilla's silent on such tales

Of cows and bandits; Such a mess.

Miss Kitty wears a pretty dress.

This evening in a room above,

It comes off, and I get some love.

I'll dig around and see if I come across anything with a gunfight...:wink
112.) bluecat - 01/29/2015
Nice, and see if you can find any passages about "heaving bosoms", "black garters" and the smell of gunpowder. That sort of thing.
113.) Swamp Fox - 01/29/2015
Bluecat, you seem to be very into this. Is there anything you'd like to tell us?

:wink

More from the Wild Bob Collection (Illustrations and photographs courtesy of The Rootin Tootin Historical Preservation Society, with funding assistance from NPR and PBS, supporters of great poetry in all its forms):

A Lover, Not a Gunfighter

It's sundown soon.

Tonight's full moon

Brings kittens out to play.

Black garter belts--

It's just my heart that melts

As bosoms heave away.

Tomorrow's dawn,

I'll right a wrong

With Black Bart in the street.

Burnt gunpowder...

I prefer clam chowder.

Ladies, have you anything to eat?
115.) Deerminator - 01/29/2015
Like the part about the cow:-)
116.) bluecat - 01/29/2015
Wild Bob definately has a gift. :wink

Takes me back to those wild days of shooting guns in the saloon just because we could. The smell of perfume mixed with whiskey and gunpowder. The sounds of the boots on the wood plank floors, the squeak of the swinging doors, the melodic tinny sounds of the player piano, the soft sounds of horses from the stagecoach passing by.

That was the first time I'd ever seen the video. Yeah, I agree, pretty dark. Great song though.
123.) Swamp Fox - 01/29/2015
I saw the video a few years ago when I first discovered youtube and went looking for the song for some reason. I don't remember some of the imagery or the scene in the kitchen with the friend holding the gun. I kept waiting for her to shoot. Maybe there's a tamer version out there.
