I don't think I've ever had morels....As far as I know, we don't have them here.

We have some other types of mushrooms, but I think most of them'll kill ya, LOL.

Deer like them at times. They seem to ignore them other times.

They are mighty tasty. Very mild. I'm not sure I've seen morels with such a dark cap on them though. Interesting.
4.) Wild Bob - 05/14/2015
Yum! Good stuff there...
5.) Swamp Fox - 05/15/2015
Well, I stand corrected. There are apparently a few morels around here (very few), but a lot more people who moved here and like to hunt them complaining about how they never find them, LOL.

BTW, mushroom hunting forums are even slower than this one, just to put things in perspective...:wink

yeah they are blacks they grow in more of a clay soil. yellows grow in sandy soil. I have 3 yellows in my yard right now that I'm allowing them to grow. I'm not worried about someone picking them :)

That's interesting regarding the color of them vs. the type of soil grown in...to me your pictures looked very normal as the Morels I've found here look like those.

Bow-fishhunter I was over in your neck of the woods just a couple of weeks ago. Actually, I just realized that I drove through your area going to Wild Rice Lake area just north of Duluth.
8.) Deerminator - 05/15/2015
Never had them.
Like to try them.

All we have down here is toad stools:bang:

What were you doing up there?
11.) Swamp Fox - 05/18/2015
Ice fishing?

LOL...
12.) Wild Bob - 05/18/2015
Bow-fishhunter: Boat hunting...

Seems like everyone in that area has a boat or two for sale.
13.) bow-fishhunter - 05/19/2015
Last night, they're starting to get a little old. but there are a few around.
14.) bluecat - 05/19/2015
I saw somewhere that when you pick them you are supposed to do it in a gunny sack, so the spores leak out while you pick and populate the area.
15.) bow-fishhunter - 05/21/2015
Flick then pick. I don't know if it really works but what the hell can't hurt. I think the spores disperse more when the mushroom is starting to dry up. I've also heard take the water you use to wash them up and throw it out where you found them... again I don't know if it works.
