Yup, it's true. I got a new bow and it's NOT a Bowtech.........

Hi guys
2.) Swamp Fox - 05/27/2015
Hey, Jon!---Great to see you!

Can I guess an Elite?

Or an Obsession...Although that might depend on what you think of the designer...LOL
3.) Jon - 05/27/2015
You guess it, Obsession!
I got the Addiction because I'm not a short A-A guy and it is right on for hunting and 3d. I have it all dialed in so far just out to 30yds. It's very smooth and pretty fast, shoots a 380gr arrow at 290 set at 59#.
I couldn't be happier with this bow.

Cool! I've heard good things about them (Obsession) but I don't think I can find one to shoot around here.

I always liked Dennis from the little bit of contact I had with him years ago when he had the "original formula" Scrape Juice and then the spin-off after Muzzy took over, so I've kinda kept my ears open.

Would like to hear more about the Addiction and your shopping process as you have time. We're a little light on the archery discussions around here these days, so that would be great, LOL...:wink
6.) bluecat - 05/27/2015
Jon! Glad you are here.

Well, I was in the market for a new bow because I simply had outdated equipment in the bow department. I haven't been shooting the bow much because my eyesight is horrible and it's been a problem. I've decided that more practice is the only solution so bow shopping started. I quickly narrowed my choices based on some basic needs, the bow had to be between 33 and 35" A-A and it had to be a double cam. These two filters brought the shopping down to a few bows. I was looking at the Bowtech Boss, Elite Energy 35 and Synergy, Strother Rush, Obsession Addiction and the PSE Bowmadness 34.

Believe it or not, I wasn't able to shoot the Obsession Addiction prior to purchasing HOWEVER, it came with some pretty heavy endorsements from guys I hold in high regards. These folks are professional shooters who work for different companys! Anyway, I ordered the bow and got the typical 4-8 week shipping estimation which then turned into 8-12 and then finally 12-20 weeks. I gave up on my custom order and found the exact bow I had ordered on AT, had it in hand 3 days later.

The bow is very well built, the finish is Colorfusion which is a different process than dipping and looks to be very robust. The dual cam setup is similar to Bowtech cams and it does have a cable rod without rollers, uses a slide. The cams are equipped with draw stops that are adjustable. It uses a module system to adjust draw length which are simple to change out. Torx screws are used on mods and draw stop hardware eliminating any chance to strip them out.

My bow has zero cam lean and the finish is flawless, some bows have a "zipper" in the finish but mine is perfect.
The only complaint is the cable slide, they should send these out with roller slides instead of what's on them, cables tend to get worn quickly going through the non-roller slide. The obvious bigger complaint is the wait time on new orders. I've been told that Obsession had in excess of 40,000 bow orders placed at the ATA which quickly overwhelmed them.

I set my bow up with a WB (yup, imagine that) and a Sword Twilight Hunter 5 pin sight. I also got a Treelimb quiver and am using Victory V-Force arrows. On the string (ordered new strings immediately from a guy JBK, in Maine) I have a loop, a peep and Nitro XL Buttons in place of the original speed nocks.

Couldn't be happier with the new bow, she's a shooter!

Hi Jon, good to hear from you. I was thinking about you the other day. How's every thing? must be good. Excellent.

The Rush is one of my favorite bows. So nice, I picked up a second one used at the first of the year.

Can you usually switch out a slide for something else (with or without a roller) without re-engineering the bow to your detriment, and then how hard is it to get it back to where you want it? Always wondered about that because I have at least two bows I changed slides on, and not being ultra-technical on my tuning I always wondered if I was cheating myself somehow, and in a way that a little more effort and expertise would fix. You know: 'If they had wanted this kind of slide on this bow they would have built it that way to begin with" (manufacturing costs aside).

Have heard good things about the JBK strings. Would you say the stock Obsession strings leave lots to be desired, or were you doing just a slight tweak?
10.) Swamp Fox - 05/27/2015
Oops... Forgot to ask the reasoning behind switching out the speed buttons.
11.) Wild Bob - 05/27/2015
Congrats on the new bow, glad you are happy with it. :tu:

Good to see you around here.

Replacing the slide is easy and had zero effect on the tune as long as it doesn't change the cable angle and cause cam lean or cable interference.
The stock strings aren't well liked (they have since changed string manufacturers) and I wanted different colors anyway. The speed buttons were replaced with the Nitron XL's because I don't like crimping anything on strings. I didn't see much wrong with the stock strings but I also didn't give em much of a chance. Saved them for backups.

Hi Bob, Bluecat and Deerminator.
I took a break from here for a while to get away from some drama, I ain't got no time fo dat
14.) bluecat - 05/28/2015
We have our own kind of drama here. The nice thing about the other four guys on here :wink is we don't take ourselves too seriously.
15.) Deerminator - 05/28/2015
Do ya still have like 52 different places to hunt?
16.) Jon - 05/28/2015
My hunting club minimized, both in people and land. We have 23 hunters now and 5 farms, total land is about 2500 acres give or take. The pressure is much less and no morons, well let me rephrase that...less morons.
17.) Swamp Fox - 05/28/2015
:-)....
18.) Hunter - 05/28/2015
Nice, Jon! :tu:

I want a new bow, Just can't make myself pull the trigger.

:-)Looking forward to some pics and stories this coming season.
20.) Hunter - 07/20/2015
Jon, are you using the Vforce Elites? Which spine?
I'm thinking about getting some of the 400s
21.) Jon - 07/21/2015
I still use the V-Force arrows (V1, 350 spine)and am now trying Deer Crossing Arrows, they seem to be decent and priced right. A friend who was with Victory as the GM left and is the owner of the new company. They custom fletch if you want them a certain way and ship immediately.
22.) Swamp Fox - 07/21/2015
Thanks for the heads-up...Custom fletching, you say?...
