1.) Jon - 09/01/2015
Today is it, the archery opener! As it is every opener, HOT! only 92 but very humid. I couldn't get out this am but headed out after work for a sit at the corner of a nice bean field. Too hot to shoot anything unless it's a fat velvet buck!
Anyone else hunting yet?
2.) Swamp Fox - 09/01/2015
Technically I am in SC, but opening week was miserably hot and I had no running water so I didn't do much. Last week was pretty (cooled off considerably in front of the tropical storm down Cuba-way) but naturally I was up here with no free time even if the season were open. We start mid Sept. in NC.

Good luck on your sit! It's always cooler in a stand! :tu:
3.) billy b - 09/01/2015
Still another month till opener here, good luck Jon, I have t work tomorrow so text me some pics if you get a chance.
4.) BULLZ-i - 09/01/2015
STILL PRETTY HOT HERE TOO. TO CLOSE TO MY CAMP, CANT GET IN

5.) Swamp Fox - 09/02/2015
How far are the fires from your camp?
6.) BULLZ-i - 09/02/2015
15 MILES AND 18 MILES, DEPENDS ON WHAT FIRE COMPLEX. UNABLE TO DRIVE THRU ALL DIRECTIOS TO GET THERE AT THIS POINT. WELL I COULD GO UP THRU CANADA AND BACK DOWN, BUT I DONT THINK MY STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS IS UP
7.) Swamp Fox - 09/02/2015
The Canadians wouldn't know what to do with a sailor anyway...

Hope everything goes your way in the end...

I've only hunted behind a wildfire once...I can't say the odds were in my favor.
8.) BULLZ-i - 09/02/2015
A SAILOR WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH A CANADIAN. THEY HAVE NO THROAT AND FART TOO MUCH

See any deer Jon???
10.) Triton Rich - 09/02/2015
Good luck Jon and anybody else who's hunting already!
11.) Jon - 09/02/2015
I had 3 bucks come out and a bunch of does. Nothing worth shooting but fun to watch them munch away on the beans.

Blame Canadian puberty...:wink
13.) Wild Bob - 09/02/2015
Yea, put those fires out will you Bullzi...we're getting red-eyed over here from the smoke from everyone's fires to the west (our own included!)

Our deer and elk archery season opens in 3 days, but...I won't be hunting for a few weeks until things cool off a bit. I've got my elk tag and the last thing I want to do is drop an elk and loose meat due to heat/time necessary to pack it out. Deer, I may do some bow hunting sooner, but elk is my priority for early season. I'll spend more time deer hunting late in October / early November.

Good luck to everyone starting their season now!
14.) Swamp Fox - 09/02/2015
If I had a choice to hunt elk when they're bugling vs. waiting for cooler/comfortable weather, I don't know what I'd do. I don't know if those are two mutually exclusive things where you are, but I expect they are some places. The only elk I've been around were near the Grand Canyon and in extreme NW Nebraska.

It is just so cool to hear them bugling I don't know if I could deliberately skip that just to get the temps to cool off a bit, LOL.
15.) BULLZ-i - 09/02/2015
BUGLING IS THE BEST, GO EARLY
16.) Swamp Fox - 09/03/2015
......
17.) Albertabowhunter - 09/03/2015
Made it out opening morning... had a mulie doe at 18 yards but was looking for a big buck. Watched 10 of them feed in to a bedding area and disappear amongst the scrub and big trees. An area I know I would have no chance of getting into undetected. Will try again tomorrow morning. good luck to you all this season
18.) Deerminator - 09/03/2015
We have an early season that opens the Northern zone on my birthday Sept.27th. Prolly be the last time. I also have to go to NC for a wedding and won't get back till Oct 5th.
I don't even get any free time while I'm there either. Sweetie was gracious enough to volintear(SP) me to do a lot of work in setting up and taking down the frick'n wedding at the Plantation.
19.) billy b - 09/03/2015
Good luck Richard, keep us posted.

You can go to Camp Swampy while you're there, kill two birds with the same stone.
21.) Swamp Fox - 09/03/2015
Where are you gonna be? Don't think I'll be in NC then, but that's not in stone.
22.) Swamp Fox - 09/03/2015
Here's what's on the menu if you can visit Camp Swampy:

23.) bluecat - 09/03/2015
Have you run that by Michelle to make sure you're not in violation?

I don't see any protein...
24.) Swamp Fox - 09/03/2015
You want the protein????

You can't handle the protein!

:hb:
25.) Jon - 09/04/2015
Wait, Swampy is his own man, he doesn't have to run anything by anyone with a female name. Right Swampy?
26.) Swamp Fox - 09/04/2015
LOL...

Although I can think of a few times things might have turned out better if I had...:groan::wink

Unfortunately, too may yahoos have screwed up things in our area (trying to subistute calling for hunting skills). If you want to be sucessful, you are much better off leaving your calls at home and relying on your spot and stalk skills. But I will say this; I love camping while I hunt becasue I usually hear a lot of bugling going on through the night. :tu:
