Saturday the Kansas State Band in a tribute to Star Wars formed a huge Kansas Jayhawk mascot on the field and then...well, watch.

For you not knowledgeable on the Big 12, Kansas State Wildcats were playing South Dakota. Kansas Jayhawks, their rival and also in the Big 12 was playing another team on Saturday. So when K-State says it was accidental, you wonder why they would include the Jayhawk mascot if it was actually accidental. A new low for K-State.

"There's a perfectly plausible explanation...."----LOL

You no what there's not a plausible explanation for? Hillary Clinton...I know when I'm "not thinking" and going for what's "easiest" and "most convenient" in my electronic communications, I reinvent the wheel and set up several different devices and a whole new server instead of using the equipment and platforms provided to me and that everyone else is using...:bang:...

She's as bad a liar as her husband...she's just not as good at it.

"There was absolutely no intent to display anything other than the Enterprise and the Jayhawk in battle," Frank Tracz, director of K-State's marching band, wrote on Facebook. "If I am guilty of anything it would be the inability to teach the drill in a manner that these young people could have succeeded."

Um, there wasn't any problem seeing the figures. But here is what I don't get. You are K-State. So why involve a different teams mascot in your halftime show UNLESS the intent was there to ridicule your rival. Why not have your own damn mascot fighting the enterprise? We all know what was intended.

I heard today he was suspended and fined. Don't know if that is true or not.

Did you hear her apology/non apology. It went something like this, "I'm sorry everyone had a problem with it."
5.) Swamp Fox - 09/08/2015
I heard about a fine. Don't know about a suspension.

This is my favorite commentary so far:

http://www.cnet.com/news/college-band-performs-star-trek-ends-up-in-phallic-controversy/

And this may be my favorite apology of all time:

KState Marching Band ‎@KStatePride

We apologize for anyone offended by our halftime performance depicting the starship enterprise and the Jayhawk mascot.

LOL...I'll have to remember that one in case I ever feel the need to respond to criticism...:wink

Alert! Alert! Rookie nerd error!

{Insert joke here about boldly going where no man has gone before}
7.) bluecat - 09/08/2015
So much so that the Kansas State Marching Band employed the world's largest megaphone -- Twitter -- to offer its apology. "We apologize for anyone offended by our half time performance depicting the starship enterprise and the Jayhawk mascot," its tweet read. (Apologize for, note. Not apologize to.)

Missed that initially. Wonder if that was on purpose.

DParker, if this is something about Star Wars and Enterprise, you caught me red handed. I have yet to watch any of that crap. I have never liked it. Always hated it. Thought it was hokey and stupid. I know, I'm barely even a proper woman.

Looks the K-State band was facing some stiff competition.
14.) Swamp Fox - 09/09/2015
One more reason not to be hard on them...

I'm sure after all this, they're being hard on themselves.

The good news is Kansas' troubles recruiting flute players are OVER...
20.) bluecat - 09/09/2015
Well you can always look at the positive. That's the first time I've seen a Jayhawk cross the 50 yard line in quite a while...

Rolling Stone is reporting that KSU is undecided about their commencement speaker for 2016: Some on the search committee want former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders, while many favor Bill Clinton for his less clinical style.

Are you saying that's almost become the final frontier?

Because I thought that meant something else...

When Kansas State visits Kansas on Thanksgiving weekend later this year, the marching band plans to honor one of their host city's largest employers, Del Monte Foods.

The marching band will open with a routine they are calling "A Tribute to Asparagus," and then finish strong with a snappy number they've composed called "Everybody Likes It In The Can."
25.) Swamp Fox - 09/09/2015
Meanwhile, Kansas City's Trans World Airlines is considering whether or not to continue recruiting at KSU...
26.) Wild Bob - 09/09/2015
Just another sign of the class our society is exuding... :re: (That was sarcasm.)

I'm all for a little good natured rivalry and obnoxious cutting up; but that one belongs in the locker room only IMO.

A guy should be able to take his kids to a college ball game without having to explain that to his kids...

"Jimmy, sometimes a spaceship is just a spaceship."

"Well you see, Johnny, when a big cartoon bird loves a spaceship, it gives it a special hug, and that's where babies come from..."

"Well, Allison, the Kansas mascot really loves carrots and wants you to eat all the food on your plate every time so you can grow up to be big and strong."

I'm sure some of you all who actually have kids can come up with some more,, LOL...

Kansas football is tough to watch and tougher to explain.

My favorite play from a few years back was when the opposing team's receiver caught a pass over the middle. Three Jayhawks closed the distance and attempted to hit the receiver without any attempt to wrap up or use their arms. All three hit each other from the three different directions. The receiver, untouched simply continued downfield. You couldn't have choreographed that any better to look like something from a Benny Hill comedy routine. Our great coach at that time, wasn't even upset.

Probably got a participation trophy after the game.

KU's players get easily distracted too. Popcorn venders, cheerleaders, giant balloons. So hard to focus.

Little Johnny is a legend...

Little Johnny was sitting in class doing math problems when his teacher picked him to answer a question: "Johnny, if there were five birds sitting on a fence and you shot one with your gun, how many would be left?"

"None," replied Johnny, "'cause the rest would fly away."

"Well, the answer is four," said the teacher, "but I like the way you're thinking."

Little Johnny says, "I have a question for you. If there were three women eating ice cream cones in a shop, one was licking her cone, the second was biting her cone, and the third was sucking her cone, which one is married?"

"Well," said the teacher nervously, "I guess the one sucking the cone."

"No," said Little Johnny, "The one with the wedding ring on her finger, but I like the way you're thinking."
45.) bluecat - 09/10/2015
LOL, Oh that Johnny is a rascal isn't he?
