1.) Swamp Fox - 09/30/2015
I'm getting more and more of these on the cell phone I use most often. I made the mistake of pressing "1" a few months ago to remove myself from a list (as instructed by the voice, but this is a scam...You're just put in a message loop and are never processed to opt out of future calls)...So all I did was just encourage the bastards by proving that my number was live.

99.9% of robocalls of any type to cell phones are illegal without an opt-in, is my understanding, but solutions are spotty. I am with Verizon, which seems behind the curve on call-blocking to begin with. Also, one of the most popular third-party robocall-blocking services, Nomorobo, is not available for Verizon. Lastly, this happens to be a dumb-phone, which means I'm not aware of any third-party download for blocking which would work on it to begin with, even if I were to connect it to the internet, which I have no really good reason to do.

I do occasionally get legit unidentified calls from out-of-area numbers on this phone, so I would like to be able to do something other than mash "Ignore" every time a number I don't recognize rings, but at this point that's the only solution that seems viable, based on the reading I've done. Of course, with that system, I still get charged for the airtime the robocall chews up, and then also have to use time (and minutes) to check VM to make sure I didn't miss a legit call.

Any ideas? Thoughts? Independent rants?
2.) bluecat - 09/30/2015
Make sure you are on the "Do Not Call List". They work for cell phones as well. I was constantly hammered at home a year or so ago (not cell phone) by a person claiming to fix my computer. After weeks of this, I contacted the Attorney General and gave them all his information. That sh*t stopped immediately. LOL!
3.) Swamp Fox - 09/30/2015
My understanding is that political robocalls are not stopped by the DNCL, even if they were coming to a landline. Political calls to landlines get some exemptions that commercial calls do not, but since I'm not worrying about a landline at the moment, I'm sure I don't know 100% of the ins and outs of how to block them from a landline.

The problem I'm having is robocalls of most types are illegal to cell phones, but so far I've not been able to come up with a good weapon against them, at least not one that is suited to Verizon dumbphones.

I know I'm the last man on earth using a dumbphone, but c'mon! LOL
4.) DParker - 09/30/2015
I don't mind those calls. At this point I'm voting Bender for President anyway.

Robo calls suck...

I like the live calls because this is my canned response:

As soon as they introduce themselves and state why they are calling, I say,” Does this call have anything to do with sex?!"
To which they inevitably are shocked and say, "No it does not!"
And then I bark back, "Then I'm not interested!" and I hang up.

Works great every time. :tu:

:-)

You know they have your phone number marked in yellow highlighter at the call center, Wild Bob...At the beginning of the shift, every operator is hoping to win the lottery and get your sheet, so they can have a good giggle at least once that evening.

I can't wait to hear how that works out when you get a call from some LGBT activist group.
9.) Swamp Fox - 10/01/2015
LOL...

Sex...gender....it's all the same thing, right?

Note to Verizon: an idea to personalize Caller ID to match the sex (gender!) to which the caller self-ID's...
10.) Wild Bob - 10/01/2015
But that's the beauty of it...it works regardless of gender. (What do I care about what they think; they don't know me.)

Good one Parker - I had to do a little reasearch on that one, had no idea off the top of my head what LBGT stands for. Montana is on the do not call list for LBGT groups. :-) LOL
11.) Swamp Fox - 10/01/2015
What...No love for my Caller Self-Identification idea?

Maybe I'm slipping...

:wink

If the phone companies would market it as "CSI", people would sign up in droves....

I saw a Pic Alex put on F.B. of his oldest daughter, she now looks grown up, I miss all the family pics with the Christmas tree every year.
28.) DParker - 10/02/2015
The optimist says, "The glass is half full."

The pessimist says, "The glass is half empty."

I say, "Who the hell drank half my beer?"
