Both great bucks, but I believe I'd pee my pants if I saw that Kansas deer coming my way!

Holy cow!

Congrats to both of them. :tu:
3.) Jon - 11/17/2015
NICE!! Love me a drop tine buck
4.) Swamp Fox - 11/17/2015
Billy, on the West Texas lease you used to (still?) belong to, how many members, stands, and how did you divvy up who hunted where and when?

Also interested in hearing from anyone else who shares property with others.
5.) billy b - 11/17/2015
The Caldwell Ranch is 15,000 acres, we gridded a map of the lease into 500 acre plots, each member got 2 plots, we all got together & picked spots, the spots were yours to hunt on unless you gave someone else permission, it was also ok to trade plots with someone else, we never had any problems (other than keeping Jerry in his spots:wink). Everybody has camper trailers or some of us bought used job shacks & refurbished them, there was already a camp site fenced off when we got there, It worked out great.

Did you rotate plots between or even during seasons, and if so, how? Random drawing?

Any conflicts or considerations about outlining or winning plots which were more prime than others?

Awesome deer, congrats to the hunters!

Your plots were yours, the land was all the same, no one plot was better than the other, all plots had great deer, everyone was required to feed protein during the antler growing season & we never had any problems. the lease just gets better every year, the people are all friends of ours old friends of friends, we never have had a problem with anyone, there were 4 of us in charge of everything, we made the rules & never had any problems, we have hunted there since 1992, we renew a 5 year contract every 5 years, the land owner is proud of how we have improved the herd, so are we.
9.) Swamp Fox - 11/17/2015
Okay. Thanks!

billy, the first deer has an unusual fork for a whitetail. Kinda neat.
12.) billy b - 11/17/2015
He actually has a kicker on both G2's, one of them is kinda pointed at the camera, it's a good W Tx deer.
13.) Swamp Fox - 11/18/2015
I see that now! :tu:
14.) Wild Bob - 11/18/2015
Awesome! :tu:
15.) Deerslayer88 - 11/18/2015
Thats awesome!
16.) DParker - 11/18/2015
Damn, that's nice. Apparently it was a good past few days for the AARP crowd (just not me). My boss popped into my office this morning to tell me that his 83 year-old father just killed an 18-pointer (with an inside spread he estimated at ~20") on his NE TX property yesterday.
17.) billy b - 11/19/2015
Holy cow, see if you can get a pic (gps coordinates ?), I'd like to see that.
18.) DParker - 11/19/2015
Holy cow, see if you can get a pic (gps coordinates ?), I'd like to see that.
Yeah, I'd like to see it myself. He said he was going to get one from his dad, but he's not in the office this morning. I don't know if he's out for the whole day or not, but I'll get one from him as soon as I can and ask if he doesn't mind me sharing it online.
19.) DParker - 11/20/2015
OK, after some technical issues with the e-mails his dad sent him, my boss finally managed to forward copies of the two photos that were taken of the beast.

The rack is pretty funky, and the photos are such that some parts of it might not be visible. But from what I can see it looks like the old boy might be playing just a little fast-and-loose with the word "points". I think I can identify 15. Still, for these parts he's a monster. The even better aspect of the story is that he was looking out of his kitchen window when he spotted the buck near a feeder about 70-80 yds from his house. He grabbed his 7mm-08, walked out onto the car port and shot him from there (probably while wearing a robe and drinking a cup of coffee.)

Sorry, Billy, no GPS info. He said he could tell me, but then he'd have to...well....you know.
20.) Swamp Fox - 11/20/2015
Overheard at the picture-taking session:

"Dad, stick his tongue back in, and close your robe."

:p
21.) bluecat - 11/20/2015
LOL!

Diego, were his slippers at least camo? Give the rest of us a little hope please. Something like, it was a treacherous tracking job through the fescue or had to fend off the neighbors cats to get to it. Anything.
22.) Swamp Fox - 11/20/2015
Seriously nice buck, though, LOL

:-)

I'll bet he couldn't even get his wife to field dress it and drag it to the garage for him.
