1.) Swamp Fox - 07/19/2016
I'm wondering a few things:

Have the GoPro 4's gotten any easier to use in terms of navigating the menus (or even reading/understanding them on the tiny screen), knowing when they're on and when they're off, etc. since I last handled the originals? Have to admit that my goofball buddy had lost the manual so everything was Greek to me from the get-go, but I think it still might have been pretty traumatic even with full instructions.

Anybody have anything good or bad to say about the Tactacam 2 bow camera? I'm not really interested in screwing one on my bow, but with the zoom lens it has it might work for something else I have in mind. Unfortunately, mounting options seem limited to weapons mounts and I'm not sure if it handles any audio, but I could have missed something on either or both those accounts.

I've been playing around with some Garmin Virbs for a while, and if anyone else has one I have a couple of questions.

Interested in any experience with other action cams as well. JVC, Sony and Ricoh have some interesting offerings, and I came across some very encouraging positive comments about the audio quality of one of the Contours, but don't know how much stock to put in that, especially since I don't think most of the Contours get ultra-high marks for video. (I could be wrong about that, especially concerning the newest models, but that's just the impression I have).

Lastly, I bet you would have to have non-proprietary editing software to take audio from one brand of camera and overlay it on video from another brand? Or is there any "proprietary" software that will handle multiple non-matched cameras? For instance, I assume GoPro has their own editing software the way Garmin does for the Virb. Can you put a different brand camera's video or audio through it?

Anyone have any recommendations for good editing software for dummies?

I use Pinnacle Studio for video editing, it's really good but takes some time to play with it and understand all the things you can do with it. I've used easier ones but didn't get the quality out of them which is why I've stayed with Pinnacle.
3.) Swamp Fox - 07/19/2016
Thanks for that, Jon. I'll look at it. I know nothing about software at this point except what I read in ads I find on the innernet.

Cool.

5.) DParker - 07/20/2016
I used Pinnacle a long time ago when it came with a PC adapter card that allowed you to capture video and audio from an analog source like a camcorder (this was back before digital videography was the norm) and edit it using the software. When you were done you could even send the results back out through the card to a VCR or something to record it on tape. The software was pretty powerful back then, so I can only imagine how good it is now.
6.) Swamp Fox - 07/20/2016
I got a response to a question from Pinnacle today which is somewhat disappointing. Apparently their software won't correct fishey distortion, which is important for action cams. All the action cam software I know of corrects for this (if you want it corrected) so I'm a little surprised this super-duper software won't do it.

So next I went to ProDRENALIN, which is action cam-specific. Since I couldn't find it on their website, I emailed to ask how many cameras the software could work with at one time. I got an email back several hours later saying "all the supported cameras that will work are listed at such-and-such link---Mit freundlichen Grüßen / with kind regards---Ludwig" ---(I'm changing the name to protect the innocent, but it wasn't "Bob"---LOL).....

So what we have here is a failure to communicate. Let's see if my follow-up email makes any greater progress. Ach, du lieber!

" So obviously they didn't understand the question.

Of course not. Bob works in the Bangalore office.

That is so true! It used to drive me nuts when Microsoft or Norton --maybe also MacAfee--used to connect me with "Bob", "Steve", "Gary" or "Mike", and you just knew the guy's name was really Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna.

Hello,
you can remove the fish-eye effect, stabilize, color correction with Prodrenalin V1.

You can make more clips to one clip with our new version V2 next time.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / with kind regards

"Ludwig"

Remember, the question was if multiple cameras would work simultaneously on the software, and if so, how many.

The answer seems to be "Nein", so at least I get a pun out of this whole exchange.

V2 doesn't exist at the moment, but my Enigma machine tells me that when Ludwig taps out "make more clips to one clip" he is transmitting that I should anticipate it at some point in the future. When? I am afraid to ask.

I wonder if there's a better way to make them talk besides email?

Remember, the original question two emails ago was whether the software would work with multiple cameras, and if so, how many?

It appears now that the question is "Nein" but at least I get a pun out of the whole deal.

V2 doesn't exist at the moment, or at least it's not on the website, but my Enigma machine tells me that by tapping out "You can make more clips to one clip with our new version V2 next time" Ludwig is transmitting that multi-camera capability, though submerged and not showing on radar, might be detectable (possibly by sonar?) at some point in the future. When? I am afraid to ask. And besides, I'm not 100% confident that my German translation is accurate.

I wonder if there is a way, besides his clunky email thing, to make them talk?
