1.) DParker - 03/27/2013
What sayeth HC? I didn't have an CO hunts planned anyway, so I'm just waiting for MagPul to announce that they're relocating to the D/FW area. :tu:

http://tv.yahoo.com/news/hunters-begin-boycott-over-colorado-gun-laws-131714805.html
2.) OKY - 03/28/2013
I hope more out of state hunters join in.
3.) Floyd - 03/28/2013
I told brother in-law I'm not hunting there this year. Plans were made.
4.) Swamp Fox - 03/28/2013
"Republican opponents of the new background-check law said it would make criminals of hunters lending each other weapons for weekend hunting trips. In response, Democrats changed the bill to give people a 72-hour grace period to share guns without triggering background-check requirements. Republicans then complained the bill would imperil weeklong hunting trips."

Freakin' geniuses. No wonder they never admit that they think they know best.

If I had a a trip planned with an outfitter, I wouldn't cancel. This is not like turning a cold shoulder to vendors who continued to want to show at the Eastern Sports outdoor show even though the show officially took an anti-gun stance. Those vendors needed to suck up the punishment they were not willing to endure voluntarily, because they would not stand on principal themselves, and that's a Bozo No-No.

Don't punish the outfitters who likely feel exactly the way you do. Many of the other people who depend on tourist dollars if you go to Colorado are on your side as well.

Choose to cross Colorado off your list for the future, if you feel inclined, but a few well-placed letters and phone calls will do more than just skipping the state altogether.
5.) Floyd - 03/28/2013
Hey Swampy, wouldn't a hungry outfitter's cry mean more? 3 of 5 outfitter's guides standing in the un-employment line as appose to zero.

NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THIS HAPPEN. I don't. But, you know politicians.... must be a good law, no one is out of work.

"Choose to cross Colorado off your list for the future, if you feel inclined, but a few well-placed letters and phone calls will do more than just skipping the state altogether." I like your quote.

'Fellow lawmakers, let's table this law until sometime in the future.' 'Hell no!' 'We need to strike while the fire is hot. Take advantage of San....' 'sshh, shut your mouth.' 'Will these laws....' 'Shut up Vern.'
6.) Swamp Fox - 03/28/2013
Floyd, no, I don't think a hungry outfitter's cry would mean more than a targeted lobbying effort aimed at the legislature and other public officials. I understand your point, but I believe you can achieve the same or greater effect without making the outfitter (an innocent in this case) cry, or hungry.
7.) OKY - 03/28/2013
Swampbot, in my mind, dipping in to the state's revenue would make more of a statement than any letter would. Let the politicians that started this mess answer to the mighty dollar. Letters can be talked about, debated and dismissed but dig in their pockets and heads will roll.
8.) Floyd - 03/28/2013
Money (tourism/hunting) has always hit harder than well-placed letters and phone calls. Well, you know, unless the latter came with bribes and payoffs. Is that what you meant?
9.) Swamp Fox - 03/28/2013
Do you think the legislators and the anti-gun lobbbyists are hit harder by a boycott than the outfitter and the employees at the convenience store?
10.) Floyd - 03/28/2013
You missed the point.
11.) Swamp Fox - 03/28/2013
Sorry. I'm just trying to figure out who everybody thinks gets hit hardest.
12.) Floyd - 03/28/2013
It has a great deal to do with who gets hit the hardest and who hits the hardest.
13.) bluecat - 03/28/2013
Sorry. I'm just trying to figure out who everybody thinks gets hit hardest.
Ventilator got hit the hardest I've seen in a while.
14.) crookedeye - 03/29/2013
it would be very hard for me to not go to colorado and climb one of those big green mountains again..lifes to short.. i'm going next year..alex you in??
15.) Leighton - 03/29/2013
You should all be joining together to fight the new gun laws as one voice and not turning you anger onto each other. Have you ever heard of "Divide and Conquer " well thats what the anti gun lobbyists are trying to do to you guys and it looks as though some cracks are appearing.
When they talked about banning fox hunting over here the hunting community called for a march of solidarity and 100's of thousands of hunters marched on London But 100's of thousands stayed at home and left it to someone else. If everyone had turned out it would have made those members of parliament think twice and maybe the result would have been different.
You must all join as one voice.
16.) Go Bucks - 03/29/2013
the cancelled ESOS show in Harrisburg a few months ago was a stunning example of solidarity. It was so fast and powerful, the politicians had to take notice. In any war there are casualties, its just where and when does someone decide its appropriate to stand up and fight... my guess is Patton would say the sooner the better.
17.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013
dano had a hell of a time in colorado...if he wasnt throwing up are falling in creeks,,it would be a walk in the park..lol i remember me and duct tape man and are guide climbed the "elevator shaft". I NEVER LAUGH SO HARD IN MY LIFE.. i was sucking air and laughing every step of the way..
18.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013
dano..remember my bow burnt and i sunk into that quicksand?
19.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013
are when ky hit his head on the bed post....what was he thinking?? that shook the whole cabin..lmao
20.) Dan-o - 03/30/2013
Right after we almost set the cabin on fire by stuffing the stove with diesel fuel soaked dry pine. It was so hot in there your peep twisted 180 degrees.
21.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013
lol...diesel fuel soaked pine...

that was good times...
22.) Dan-o - 03/30/2013
lol...diesel fuel soaked pine...

It was nice of that lady to dump diesel fuel in front of the door too, so that it could effectively get all over my hunting clothes and boots
23.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013
i was wondering why all my clothes smelled like diesel fuel

.remember the time we where smoking a cigerate and Eli come walking up and we put it out like we where doing somthing wrong? lmao..
24.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013
Eli i need to call that guy one of these days..
25.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013

27.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013
we didnt play by the rules out there..
28.) crookedeye - 03/30/2013
how bout the intrduction? we all had to sit around and answer question..i was so hungover from the night before.. i was thinking i better not shoot a moose..
how bout the intrduction? we all had to sit around and answer question..i was so hungover from the night before.. i was thinking i better not shoot a moose..
Figured I would let you know that after reading all the other hilarious posts, this was the one that sent me over the edge:laugh:
30.) Ventilator - 04/02/2013
You missed the point.
Floyd , you always miss the damn point! And I only read two pages to see that. I'll be in co for mule deer the first week of sept and elk during the third week. No way I let some ass muncher politicians keep me from hunting. The people that passed this law don't give a chit if we skip out on hunting. Only hurts the people that are for hunting and guns if we don't continue to hunt!!
31.) Ventilator - 04/02/2013
Ventilator got hit the hardest I've seen in a while.
And I thought we wuz friends.
32.) Dan-o - 04/02/2013
As Long as the current restrictions are in place, other states will get my license, fee, and outfitter dollars. Montana gets it in 2013. Screw Colorado. Nothing speaks louder than the free market economy. When the people of Colorado are broke, maybe they will get smart and vote these anti 2nd amendment douches out of office.
33.) Go Bucks - 04/02/2013
the magpul thing has gone quiet... i wonder what is going on in the background
34.) DParker - 04/02/2013
the magpul thing has gone quiet... i wonder what is going on in the background
Lots of deal-making on tax incentives, I'd imagine.

Meanwhile, another company (HiViz Shooting Systems - they make firearm sights) has just announced they're leaving CO for an unnamed "neighbor state". I have no idea yet how big the company is.
35.) Ventilator - 04/02/2013
Hi-viz is a significant company with significant representation. Jerry Miculek shoots for them. He is one of the best handgunners and speed shooters in the world.(If not the best)

I hope Magpul ditches the state as well. That is the kind of statements that mean something. Hunters not coming to the state mainly hurts the little people. They cant just pickup stakes and relocate. They are staying for better or worse. I wont ever let dumbazz politicians keep me from legally hunting any state that i feel like or can afford to go to. Its OK with me if some feel otherwise, I wont criticize you for it. However, my support of outfitters, mom & pop gas stations, campgrounds & sporting goods stores doesnt mean im anti 2A in the least.

I wont give the peckerwood politicians their way, wont give them a F___G inch!

By continuing to support the state financially, you ARE giving those politicians their way. No pain for their constituency as a result of their (elected representatives) actions means no passed-along pain for those politicians, and less incentive for them to behave differently. So they get to pass anti-2A legislation without suffering additional consequences for it (pressure from those who themselves are suffering because of it).

That doesn't mean that there aren't valid arguments for continuing to go there and spend money...but you're certainly not sticking it to the CO legislature in any way.
37.) Dan-o - 04/02/2013
Continuing to hunt in Colorado is like continuing to live with a wife that's cheating. If she's hot enough, some guys would make that choice.

Not me. Colorado is a beautiful state. As long as I have other equally beautiful options, my plan is to exercise them.
38.) Ventilator - 04/02/2013
Ok, valid points from Dan-O and DP as well. I have an outfitter friend that i have hunted with for years in NW Colorado. I enjoy getting out to see him each year as well as the quality hunting in that area. I also know that without hunters, his family would have a hard time getting by each year. They rely heavily on that source of income. Im not trying to stick it to anyone in CO. Im just not going to have them get their way by having hunters opt out of coming to that state to hunt. IMO , i dont think the CO legislature cares at all whether or not we hunters show up to hunt. Now when big business picks up camp and leaves, thats a different story. I dont think Magpul will have the back bone to leave tho. I think the state will scramble to keep them there and we wont know what the comprimise actually is. Time will tell.

The statement in red makes no sense on its own, and absolutely contradicts the one in blue. First off, how exactly is not going to CO and spending money there letting politicians "have their way"? If anything the opposite is true (for reasons already stated multple times). And it makes even less sense if you believe that they don't even care whether or not hunters show up. Like I said, there are valid arguments for doing what you plan to do. But "I'm defying the politicians" isn't one of them.
Now when big business picks up camp and leaves, thats a different story. I dont think Magpul will have the back bone to leave tho. I think the state will scramble to keep them there and we wont know what the comprimise actually is. Time will tell.
My understanding was that MagPul's move out of CO is already "underway"....though I suppose that's not really solid until we have some indication of where to.
40.) Go Bucks - 04/03/2013
Magpul was not joking, plus its too late. If they reverse course now, they will lose huge in their customers minds and destroy their biz. If they do move, customers will continue to flock to them. Their announcement was one of the best marketing plays they could have made, although I do think the play was made out of principle and not for pure marketing reasons. They could have simply shut up and been fine. Its real and they are gone.
41.) Ventilator - 04/03/2013
Well, i do hope Magpul follows thru with their decision . I agree with it. Dp, I for one , have always felt the anti 2A politicians have been against hunting as well. They just dont bring it up. I think they believe if guns are gone ,there will be no more or greatly reduced hunting as well. Thats why i stated what i did. That doesnt mean its correct, its just what i think. In Colorado, the way it operates now, its just a shell of its former self. I gurantee you 10 years ago, there werent any CO politicians thinking about passing the gay marriage, smokin weed and get rid of your guns laws. Stopping hunting is just a hidden agenda in my opinion.
42.) DParker - 04/03/2013
Speaking of Colorado legislators....here's an example of the knowledge they bring to bear about subjects on which they're proposing and passing laws:

I wonder if she trades in her car on a new one every time it runs out of gas. Her stupidity is further magnified by the condescending arrogance with which she delivers it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WypFNHOl5_Q
43.) DParker - 04/03/2013
Oops...messed that last one up but missed the editing deadline. Here it is again:

44.) DParker - 04/03/2013
Here's video of the whole forum. The "magazines will get used up" stupidity begins shortly after the 31 minute mark. The Sheriff who speaks after her is quite good. The Rep who speaks after him is a complete moron. It's worth watching.

http://blogs.denverpost.com/thespot/2013/04/03/as-lead-sponsor-in-house-on-gun-legislation-rep-diana-degette-appears-to-not-understand-how-they-work/
45.) bluecat - 04/04/2013
From your post DP,

“I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”

I wouldn't have believed this unless I read it for myself. She is arrogant I'll give her that, stating that there would be no need for a gun with a high capacity magazine because Denver PD would be there within minutes. "You'd probably be dead anyway"

Comforting.
46.) bluecat - 04/04/2013
At the mention of gangs, Feinstein launched into a rambling, almost incoherent tirade that exposed the fallacy of her argument and the idiocy of her bill. She said, "Do you realize that we have 150,000 plus gang members in this nation? When they go up against the police, it's generally an AK 47. Do you realize that police have had to break into gun stores to get weapons that would be stronger than the adversary they have? Do you realize that one out of every five law enforcement officers that's killed is killed with an assault weapon? Do you need assault weapons? These are weapons that are made to kill large numbers of people in close combat, and what we have found that now with the AR 15, they have a slide stock which you put in. It's legal, and it makes the gun act fully automatic."

47.) bluecat - 04/04/2013
Apparently, Degette issued a statement via a spokesman stating that she misspoke. She meant "clips" as in clips can't be reused.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now we know both you and your spokesman don't know anything about guns.
48.) Ventilator - 04/04/2013
Yeah, that "bump-firing" techique has been around for years. Usually you cant hit chit when doing it. Just a good way to wasted a bunch of ammo.
49.) bluecat - 04/04/2013
Not "bump-firing". Putting on a different stock will make the gun fully automatic.
50.) Ventilator - 04/04/2013
lol, yeah that would be cool.

Forget the company name, but the "slide-stock" install makes the gun easier to bump fire. Can pretty much only still be hip fired. About 200 bucks for the kit. If you get it, you can automatically be the john wayne of the gang world.
51.) bluecat - 04/04/2013
That may be where they got the notion about bump firing/fully automatic/different stock Ventilator. I'm not familiar with it so I'll claim ignorance. It does show how our politicians can gather a few bits of garbled information and then attempt to turn it into a law.
52.) Swamp Fox - 04/04/2013
I should ask you all for your opinions on whether I should watch the videos, and tell me in which post(s).

The reason I need your advice is that I'm pretty aggravated today to begin with, and I don't want to stroke out because I became enraged on my first day back to BC in a while.

I can handle a moderate amount of stupidity, especially if it might conceivably give me a chuckle. What I don't want to be exposed to is more Obama-style lies and condescension. Not today. Apparrently I underestimated the stamina it would take to make it through eight years of this.

Please rate the watchability of the videos for a viewer in a sensitive state such as mine, and please understand that nothing prevents me from suing you if you suggest that I watch and I take your advice and then keel over dead as a hammer, or--even better-- am incapacitated for life. I suggest, therefore, that you be conservative in your recommendations.

Please use a 1-10 rating system, where 10 is "Must See" and 1 is "Drink to Forget."

None of this ever happened.

It's not really "Obama-style" because he knows that he's completely full of crap, while I'm pretty sure this particular Congress-critter is actually as stupid as she appears to be. It's more the "arrogance of ignorance".

Yeah, as much nonsense as she spews on a regular basis she actually had something of a legitimate point here (the point being simply the existence of the device and what it does, not whether or not it needs to be banned). The problem was mostly, as previously noted, the incoherent and emotional nature of her rambling.
Apparently, Degette issued a statement via a spokesman stating that she misspoke. She meant "clips" as in clips can't be reused.
An attempted back-peddle which, of course, completely fails because...

1) Clips most certainly CAN be reused...and are all of the time by shooters of C&R ("Curio and Relic") rifles, including myself.

2) The topic she was addressing was the proposed CO ban on "high-capacity" magazines, not clips (there is no such proposed ban, which makes sense given that there are no "high-capacity" clips, nor have clips been in common use in rifles since the Korean War).
59.) Swamp Fox - 04/04/2013

That's good to know. Maybe I'll peek at it in the future, then. I have a slightly higher tolerance for idiocy than for dishonesty.

(Now, when I think about it, that explains several things in my life. LOL)

The Arrogance of Ignorance would be a great book title, by the way. Probably can't get someone to use it for one of their memoirs like The Audacity of Hope but I think I'll steal it and tuck it away in case I ever decide to do my own version of Profiles in Courage.
