I received this from a friend and thought just how many companies (USA and others) this has applied to in my career in the hunting industry and others I've been blessed to worked in.

At some point, it's faster, cheaper, easier and more profitable to rip off someone else's idea or do an acquisition than it is to let something new bubble up from an underlayer, which is why "innovation" rather than "growth" comes mostly from companies that don't have an organizational chart, or from visionary leaders already at the top of theirs.

But on a positive note, there's still some hope for your friend's company, as it has not yet developed its Compliance, Best Practices and New Business Prevention Department (CBP&NBPD, for short). There is still some air circulating between the Directors and the VPs, and like the men and the boys in some parts of the world, you can still separate them with a crowbar. It will be a simple thing to slip an extra layer of institutional excellence between the sheets...er, I mean levels.

To ease this company into harmony with the rest of the corporate world, and to promote esprit de corps, I recommend either bringing someone in from the outside, or promoting the biggest schmoozer in Accounting.

Or just bring Carly Fiorina in as CEO.
