First year so we'll see how it goes.
I have an idea in my head, and it already hasn't panned out the way I intended LOL O well you learn with every adventure.

Cool. How much sap will you typically get out if three tap points like that?
Cool. How much sap will you typically get out if three tap points like that?
This is the first year i've done it so I don't know when it is running hard. I put in 16 taps on thursday night and on friday night I had 5 gallons. Then it didn't freeze on saturday or sunday and i got 5 gallons combined. I've been told that if you get a good tree and the sap is running hard you can get a gallon per tap. we'll see

How many taps per tree, typically?

I'm a honey and Aunt Jemima man, meself, but keep us posted...

I didn't do any more than 3 on 1 tree. They say you can tap as a tree as how many hands wide it is...

I use the same criteria for women.

I thought that unit of measurement was the axe handle?
8.) bluecat - 02/21/2017
I think your thinking of another Babe.
9.) bow-fishhunter - 02/22/2017
Monday was 50 all day nothing flowed.
yesterday was 25 in the morning and 45 in the after noon.
this is what happens.
10.) DParker - 02/22/2017
I hope that's sap...otherwise I'm never having pancakes at your house.
11.) bow-fishhunter - 02/22/2017
Your comments make my mind go in about 100 directions at once and i just have to press reset.
Ummm what was the question again?
12.) bluecat - 02/22/2017
I think he is referring to the fact that most of that is water. Do you have a smoke house where you condense the sap?
13.) bow-fishhunter - 02/22/2017
Ok I thought he was saying it looked like pee. Then he's from Texas so that would be a long drive for pancakes. So I didn't know what road to go down then "squirrel!"

I'm going to make a temporary outdoor fireplaces to boil it down
Ok I thought he was saying it looked like pee.
I didn't know what it looked like. But I've never tapped maple trees, so I have no idea what the sap looks like in a bucket. I was just being cautious.
Then he's from Texas so that would be a long drive for pancakes.
Oh, I don't know...you might make really good pancakes.
15.) bow-fishhunter - 02/23/2017
Yeah that's all sap it is about 40:1 so I still have to boil down 97.5% of that

I do make a killer pancake
16.) bow-fishhunter - 02/23/2017
My parents just bought some hunting land by Boerne TX

ended up with 4 1/2 cups of syrup
22.) bluecat - 02/27/2017
Which is about enough for one good stack of flapjacks. :wink
23.) bow-fishhunter - 02/27/2017
lol I figured if I sold it I'd make about 0.75$ an hour
24.) bluecat - 02/27/2017
So how was the flavor? Not sure if I've had the real thing before.
25.) bow-fishhunter - 02/27/2017
Like a dab of heaven
