Well she's all ready to go now. Put an ATV/game cart hitch on the cart and a lawn mower hitch ball on the bike luggage rack. I've got a total of $30.00 in hooking up the game cart I already owned, in lieu of shelling out $150.00 for the Rambo cart.

I thought all 3 of you might have a semi-interest in it...or at least pretend to.

Well, you're not one of the 3 amigos anyway.:-)

Pretty cool Luv2. Let us know how it goes.

I'm more concerned by the stack of limbs next to the fence. That's a breeding ground for varmints. Thought you should no.
5.) Wild Bob - 06/19/2017
Well...I'm not one of the 3 amigos either...but I will comment. Looks good. A lot of guys are using those type of ATV bikes out here on gated forest service roads. I think it's a great idea!

I'm actually contemplating one myself for scouting mule deer / trapping areas on BLM in the off seasons. Great way to stay in shape and I like the idea of being able to slip in an out of areas unannounced. Sure a lot of the places I'm driving thru are on two-tracks and can be driven in one's truck...but why further educate the locals? I think a bike would be perfect for that.

Great to see you back Bob!! I thought you was more of a gone-er than I was.

But, confession on my part. This is an e-bike (battery is laying on the ground) and I rarely pedal at all. Just hit the throttle and go right up the mountain. I can pedal if I want to, but I use this to get in and get out.

Staying in shape I do by walking once I'm back in.

Come on man! Just go with it will ya? I was trying to help you out here...I wanted everyone to think you peddled that thing up 40% grades. LOL! :-)

Luv2, do have a link or a pic of the components? I didn't spend hours on it, but this is the only thing that popped up for me quickly.

I assume the bike rack is from Rambo? Is it designed to take a ball or did you have to Gerry-rig something?
10.) crookedeye - 06/19/2017
you need to pip that thing out a little better.. maybe a headlight, a basket up front to hold youre lunch are deer calls,, and some kind of thumb bell on the handle grip to warn other hunters youre coming down the hill with a heavy load..
11.) Swamp Fox - 06/19/2017
LOL...Definitely a bell. Also, baseball cards in the spokes...Or maybe they use Pokemon cards now...

If anybody wants to talk headlights, I've tried a few. My current light tops all I've tried, but I am open to new suggestions.

I'm using the Expilion 750. I have one hooked up now, whereas with all other moderately priced lights I've had to use two. If Santa brought me a second 750 for Christmas I wouldn't turn it down, but so far I haven't really felt a high need.

The rack is a Rambo rack. I did a ton of checking around at other bike racks but decided this one seemed the sturdiest and made the most sense. It was a bit pricey but seems solid. I bought the ATV/game cart hitch bar at Sportsmansguide. It seems whimpy but I think it will hold up for what I'm planning on using it for. I won't be using it that often or pulling an incredible amount of weight with it.

I had to drill a 5/8" hole in the bike rack for the lawn mower hitch ball. Rambo had about a 3/8" hole in it for their cart to hook up to, so I just drilled it out wider. Camo duct tape on the ball to cover up the stainless steel. Also I cut a wedge out of wood for under the hitch ball to give it a bit of tilt back towards the cart. I will probably do it over because I think I should've sloped it a little more to match up with the hitch bar better.

I was thinking of the big tall orange flag on the back, but your ideas are good too.

I wondered about that. Hopefully there's not a lot of stress put on the cart adapter doo-hickey as you ride and the cart bounces around.

Thanks for sharing. This is approaching a decent solution to hauling a deer cart, I think. Stuff I've seen in the past just didn't do it for me. It was all just...so much fluff.

LOL

Time will tell. But what are the odds I'm going to be hauling a deer out anyway..............:re:

Since we're getting off track here...

Here's my Public Land Hunting Rig, but as I said...it's kind of tough to sneak around quietly in it. :wink

If we stayed on track, this place would be SOOOOO dead...and boring, too. :wink

This would be one of my rigs, except stained darker with mud.

One of my favorite spots finally got opened up to vehicles. Quite disappointing. Used to be about an hour walk or a 20 minute bike in to one of my best turkey spots. Now it's a 15 minute walk, if that. Fortunately I found this out before turkey season. Not sure if they'll have the same gates open for deer, but I haven't deer hunted that area in a long time anyway. Used to hunt the hell out of it before everybody and his brother-in-law found it.

Not an isolated example of places not worth hunting any more because of opened gates.

I haven't used a "mountain bike" lately as much as I used to because of this. (I use mountain bike in quotes because mine is really a hybrid, suitable for pavement as well, and not a dedicated mountain bike.)

I put camo tape all over it (people think it's dipped from a distance) but other than a rack, a headlight and four cradles across the handlebar for bow, gun or tools, it's stock. I put new, fatter tires on it this spring for the first time since I've owned it, which is 20 years. It does the job, but I don't know if it saves you any work in hilly or mountainous terrain. I'd buy a motorized bike like Luv2's for that if money were no object and I would get a lot of use out of it. A pedal bike does save you time in some cases, but you will sweat (around here) and you do have to do some planning around the bike.

The bow/gun rack I use is two double Fin Grips (?) on the inside bracketed by a Kolpin ratchet grip on each outside end of the handlebar. Not sure they sell the kind of Fin Grips I have anymore. I set mine up so I can cradle most everything with no adjustment of the cradles, including bows of different riser designs and lengths. I liked having four cradles rather than just two anyway, but to a certain extent what I wanted to carry and my handlebar design and layout combined to push me in the four-cradle direction anyway, if I recall.

You do have to learn how to mount and dismount and steer with a load on the handlebar. I'd give the bow/gun rack that Rambo sells at least a look if I were to do it over, since it rides on the back wheel and may balance better.

You like my purple girls bicycle?

I don't know Swampy...the soles on those boots are pretty sexy and trendy...too nice for mud.
31.) Swamp Fox - 06/23/2017
LOL...The green in those is a lot brighter than mine. Mine are more like an OD.

There's nothing like calling a gobbler up over a rise and flashing your big honkin' black or cream soles at him...

Don't laugh. I spent a whole morning sweating that once.
