Nice shot, Poot. That's 2.1 miles. I'd need an astronomical reflector telescope just to see that far...and then probably still wouldn't land a hit within 50 yds of the target after a dozen tries.

That's crazy. I saw a show on the history channel chronicling Furlong's shot I believe. Even at over a mile the round had the force of a 45 at point blank range.

All the factors that went into that. Amazing.

I like how the author points out how it took the bullet "less than 10 seconds" to impact.

Besides the obvious black humor that that is a lifetime, that's mind-blowing.

Impressive!

I read somewhere that the 'glory days' for the US military sharp shooters ended back in the early 80's...I guess we're still in the top 5 for now at least. :cf:

Who knows, I don't follow that kind of thing too closely...

I'd settle for top five in snipers if we could be Number One in PSYOPs.

I watched American Sniper again last night, mostly 'cause I have to clear space on my VCR but also because it's a pretty good movie. I got a chuckle--in light of this thread--out of the scene where the black Seal says the 2100 yard shot on "Mustafa" is going to be "impossible." Kyle later said the shot depicted (his longest) was "a total luck shot."

I don't know how you even see someone who's hiding 2100 yards out, at least not the way the movie shows it. I'd think you'd be using spotting scopes and that kind of sh...stuff. The movie kinda fell down on the job showing the role of spotters, if you ask me. Wish they'd done a little bit better job on that.

I would have like to have seen the sight picture of that shot. They had a show on History Channel about some of those and sometimes the crosshairs are so far from the center of the target.
