1.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
im looking at getting the ez green bow press its under 400 bucks and looks easy, and it looks like it can press any bow out there with a few exceptions..

so let the yoke tuning begin...i was always kinda leary about screwing around with my bow but now that im in my 20's i have no more fear.. i was thinking about getting the bowmaster pocket press..but.

whats youre thoughts??
2.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
i'm going to have alot of question about yoke tuning and cam lean and where does this screw go types of questions..
3.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
you guys better be on youre A game.. i dont want to hear any jokes are stuff like that.. this is serious chit...
4.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017

7.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
i figure i might have to lean on jon and pick his brain on the do's and don'ts..dparkers a smart guy but can he press a bow? sure he can boil an egg and make a good ox tail stew..

i want perfect arrow flight..
you guys better be on youre A game.. i dont want to hear any jokes are stuff like that.. this is serious chit...
LOL..Well, that leaves me out...

">

But seriously, folks...

People seem to like them from what little I've heard. I get the impression that for the money they're as good as it gets. I wonder if you can't get a used press that's nearly "shop quality" for about the same dineros.

Where are all the presses from the Ganders that are closing down gonna go, by the way?
9.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
if i cant tie a bow thingy on my string, should i really be called a Bowhunter
10.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
do i really need a bowpress and spend 400 bucks..400 hundred bucks i can eat alot of good steaks and drink some fine whiskey
11.) DParker - 08/27/2017
400 hundred bucks i can eat alot of good steaks and drink some fine whiskey
Yeah, $40,000 would certainly buy a lot of top-notch beef and hooch.
12.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
this will give you guys somthing to talk about monday morning.. maybe you might think crookedeye might not be so dumb after all..
13.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
maybe..
14.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
40 grand ? i have a masterbuilt smoker..built by a master,what more do i need?
15.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
plus i need to no what type of grease i need to put on my cams..
16.) crookedeye - 08/27/2017
maybe to make a smoother draw

You need to stop by and throw a Joke Of The Day in the pot every once in a while...I'm about to retire, so we need you to step up.
18.) bluecat - 08/28/2017
There are a couple of dealers on AT that sell the EZ green for almost cost. It's a little bit of an investment but they are worth it. Those presses can press almost anything. The new Hoyts require an adapter because the bow limbs are beyond parallel. The adapters are spendy. I believe I paid a couple hundred for the adapters.

SwampRat is right. You have to pay for your advice here. A joke of the day contribution would allow you to ask the panel up to two questions per day on the proper way to yoke tune.
19.) crookedeye - 08/28/2017
i wonder if my element is ok to press withe ez, that and i may buy the halon
20.) bluecat - 08/28/2017
You can always email Last Chance to check, but I'm thinking the only bow it won't press is a certain Bear (with beyond parallel limbs) and the new Defiant series of Hoyts. I have the Defiant and with the adapters it presses fine.

It might even press the Bear with those adapters, don't know. It's a great press because it so simple. Presses the limb tips which would mimic the load placed on the bow while drawing. Very safe.
21.) Wild Bob - 08/28/2017
I have a Bowmaster portable press that I use. It works fine for my needs.

But then again, I'm not getting into what you are talking about doing and I only use it occasionally. I just use mine for changing strings and simple adjustments; I'm not working on any cams or putting it through the rigor of a lot of use. But on the flip side (at least in my case, for my needs) the price sure was nice.
22.) crookedeye - 08/28/2017
i was thinking about the bowmaster but i figured yoke tuning and greasing the cams might be a little quicker..the bowmaster is probally all i would need, but what the hell..
23.) bluecat - 08/28/2017
The bowmaster is a great little press for emergency purposes. I own one but I wouldn't want to use it unless I had to.

btw, the cams utilize sealed ball bearings. No reason to ever lube.
24.) crookedeye - 08/28/2017
i just like greasing stuff..
25.) crookedeye - 08/28/2017
why i really want to buy the press is the string and cables. you figure a good string is a 100 bucks then they charged almost another 100 bucks to put it on..plus the yoke tuning ..and its just a good place to rest the bow and tie a loop.
26.) bluecat - 08/28/2017
i just like greasing stuff..
I can't argue with what you are saying except, where are they charging 100 buck to put it on? Scheels?

Once you get the press, you will have satisfaction knowing you can tweak, tie on loops, change string, fix serving, realign peep etc. to your little heart's content.
28.) Swamp Fox - 08/28/2017
Plus the centipedes in the basement will know you're serious.

They'll gain a whole new respect for you. It should be easier to rough-talk them if they respect you.

I'm giving that a +10...because centipedes are about the only thing around here that will respect anything.
31.) Jon - 08/29/2017
Just draw the bow and have uncle ricky put a screwdriver in the cam, you can do whatever you need to do like that
32.) Wild Bob - 08/29/2017
See guys...I hate to play Mister Obvious here and point out that which is painfully obvious; but I'm going to.

This is part of the problem around HC and why there aren't more folks on here any more. A guy tries to throw a question out there seeking a little information to make an a decision based on some honest feed back from his fellow peers... But instead of getting a little decent feed back...he gets his balls busted. Then, if that isn't enough he gets the elitist responses and then shamed for trying to educate himself.

Now, I know CE is thick skinned...cripes he has to be to still be sticking around here as long as he has...but I mean come on. And still everyone wonders why no one new wants to be bothered screwing around on here!?

Just because I change the oil in my truck and I prefer to work under a Rotary Symmetric SPO18 Lift (that's a commercial grade, column vehicle lift, for those of you that may not be familiar with it) ...does it mean that I should put down the guy that has a need to work under his rig occasionally and is looking at getting a set of drive on ramps from AutoZone and then rag him for asking questions about what his options are? I guess I could, but why do that?

Just something to chew on...
33.) bluecat - 08/29/2017
WB, I'm probably a little slow so be patient. But other than some good natured ribbing, can you tell me where his balls are getting busted? Jon's comment was obviously intended as a joke. He's already gotten some good info.

Maybe I'm just not seeing this or other complaints about people being mistreated on this or other threads.
34.) Swamp Fox - 08/29/2017
Wild Bob--You got demoted and joined the Navy? I thought it used to be Captain Obvious. :p
In the United States Military, warrant officers and chief warrant officers are addressed as Mister by senior commissioned officers. In the United States Navy and United States Coast Guard it is proper to use Mister to refer to commissioned officers below the rank of lieutenant commander, or to subordinate commissioned officers, though the use of Mister implies familiarity compared to the use of rank title for an unknown officer.---https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr.
All I have to says is It's Podunk, Number One, and Crookedeye Number Two. Always be suspicious when he asks an archery question. He had me going for two or three pages one time about arrow selection or rest tuning or some such...Got me in the mouth! LOL...

I think he suckered me another time about something else as well. I'm a slow learner.

He's sitting out there in his underground bunker in Omaha right now, laughing at us, stroking his neighbor's cat and dreaming of fitting frickin' laser beams on clearwater carp.

:-)
35.) bluecat - 08/29/2017
Lol!
36.) Swamp Fox - 08/29/2017
In fact, thinking about it now, I believe he got me about arrow selection AND rest tuning...LOL
37.) Wild Bob - 08/29/2017
Just keep justifying...

If CE is happy as a clam - then great, no harm no foul.

But my point is that anyone new would most likely not have that take-away from an exchange like that. All you have to do is look at the last year or two posts by new members and see how many became regulars? How many posted again or came back? But hey, we don't have any ownership in that do we?

I still say that you guys that are using drive up ramps, or hauling your vehicle some where to have some one else work on them are losers. (Oh, and don't be offended by that, it's all in the name of fun! :-) )
38.) Wild Bob - 08/29/2017
My fun!!
39.) bluecat - 08/29/2017
I would also add that the centipedes in CE's basement are legendary. There has been some crazy posts on those things over the years.

Don't worry buddy, there are plenty of reasons for new people to not like this site. For me it's like a car wreck. I don't like it but I keep looking at it to see how bad it really is.
43.) Swamp Fox - 08/29/2017
LOL...You should come in here with your hardhat and your clipboard one day and fire a bunch of people for standin' around, leanin' on their shovels.
44.) Jon - 08/29/2017
Damn, CroOkeDeYe beats himself up and then gets good advice then I mess with him a tiny bit. I sure hope it wasn't my comment that sent you into a tizzy. If it was I can go away again, I really don't have a problem with that.

No Jon, it wasn't your comment...Don't go anywhere; God knows this place can't afford to loose anyone else! LOL.

Lol, We might have to have a focus group so that the comments are field tested first before publication.

Note: This joke has passed all the requirements for humor with special regard for race, religion and entomological sensitivity.
48.) Wild Bob - 08/31/2017
Yep.
49.) Triton Rich - 08/31/2017
I have an EZ press green and a bowmaster portable. The bowmaster is ok for emergency stuff on most bows but it is a bit of a pain for set-up and maintenance type stuff. The EZ press seems like the greatest thing ever for pressing my Bowtechs (Destroyer and Old Glory) but there is a problem. It won't press some of the way over center limbs that are popular today. They do sell some adapters that are meant for newer Hoyt bows but they are expensive. Now, just looking at pictures of an Element, I bet the EZ press would work fine but the limbs do look slightly over center so It is probably not recommended. Looks to me like the Halon would be the same story. I managed to press my Brother's Hoyt Spyder but I used some special precautions that I cannot share......
50.) DParker - 08/31/2017
I managed to press my Brother's Hoyt Spyder but I used some special precautions that I cannot share......
Well....now have have to know.
51.) crookedeye - 09/01/2017
am i going to have to go to the screw driver method or what..
52.) Triton Rich - 09/01/2017
Well....now have have to know.
It was actually a pretty simple concept. The whole problem is that with the limb tips angling inwards, the bow tends to want to slip down out of the fingers of the press. I hooked up a small ratchet strap on the riser to hold it in place. Worked just fine.
53.) Jon - 09/01/2017
I have an EZ press, the shop version. It was crazy expensive and the adapter fingers are also crazy expensive BUT it works like a charm and it'll press any bow out there. If you have the $$, they are the nicest press on the market.
54.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017
the ez press i want to get is around 349.00.. i figure with my roofing skills i should have that paid off in about 6 months..

57.) Swamp Fox - 09/03/2017
CE, you should start a Nascar pool on here...Tell everybody who to pay attention to and why, then put everybody on teams whether they like it or not...LOL
58.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017
that sounds familiar...
59.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017
or i can make up a team that doesnt want to be involed and place them in a lower bracket... good idea.. that way i could involve them in conversartions even though they dont want to be involved..

65.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017
if dparker goes i'll go...
66.) Swamp Fox - 09/03/2017
LOL...I'm not sitting in a sweat lodge over a waterhole. Archery spot and stalk with an antelope suit or a cow shield, or a rifle hunt on foot---maybe--- year after next. A lot of things have to go right, though, LOL.

Plus somebody has to get the bad reports of rank antelope meat out of my head.
67.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017
itll be fun ..most of them are a 3 day hunt, blinds are where its at..decoying would be fun also..

i need to go on a elk hunt again..
68.) Swamp Fox - 09/03/2017
The only way I'd do a blind hunt for antelope is if I had an entertaining cameragirl.

69.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017
well thats not going to happen..
70.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017

72.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017

76.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017

81.) crookedeye - 09/03/2017
kenny hunted hard..he was a good guy..i miss him.
82.) Swamp Fox - 09/03/2017
You have some knee pad recommendations for antelope hunting? I've got some good ones that I use in the blind as well, but they don't make them anymore, naturally. If I wanted to buy a pair of pants with pockets to go with some pads I know the combo I'd get, but I wondered what's the best off-the-shelf pad these days.
