Hey, this thang on? Anyone podunkin around here today? Stumbled across the old bow country URL today. Nice to see some of the same sickos from yesteryear.

Not many ... We've taken a beating but some of us keep on bleating.

Glad to have you back. JGB rings a bell but I don't know about the Ohio part.

The ol' memory ain't what it used to be. They say it's the second or third thing to go...LOL

Names that resonate from my time here were.... Pastrbob, JC, KDCanda, Bullzeye, stuff like that I also remember this little annoying fella named Colton....anyway I do believe I'll hang around a while if y'all will have me.

Membership is pretty exclusive. I'll need to ask you some very personal questions as well as some general deer biology and physiology knowledge.
5.) bluecat - 09/06/2017
Do you have a pulse and do you like deer?
6.) bluecat - 09/06/2017
We meet every 3rd Thursday and vote in potential members.

There might be a follow up quiz if you get past the gauntlet.

What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow and do you put beans in your chili?
8.) JGB Ohio - 09/06/2017
I do have a pulse although it beats harder and faster from the last week of October through the third week in November. I like deer, probably better than my dear.
9.) JGB Ohio - 09/06/2017
As for the airspeed of an unladen swallow. Airspeed can be predicted using a published formula. By inverting this midpoint Strouhal ratio of 0.3 (fA/U ≈ 0.3), Graham K. Taylor et al. show that as a rule of thumb, the speed of a flying animal is roughly 3 times frequency times amplitude (U ≈ 3fA).5

We now need only plug in the numbers:

U ≈ 3fA
f ≈ 15 (beats per second)
A ≈ 0.22 (meters per beat)
U ≈ 3*15*0.22 ≈ 9.9

For a European Swallow flying with our estimated wingbeat amplitude of 24 cm, the predicted pattern of cruising flight ranges a Strouhal number (St) of 0.2. We can estimate the airspeed of the European Swallow to be roughly 11 meters per second (15 beats per second * 0.73 meters per beat.

I have two follow up questions for you BlueCat.

1- Given the airspeed of 11 meters per second, how far would you need to lead said European Swallow with a 12ga shooting high brass 7.5 shot from 15 meters in 20 mph crosswind?

2- What is the capital of Assyria?

Brave Sir Bluecat you go!

This doth make her the queen, doth it not?
20.) Swamp Fox - 09/06/2017
That's what they're saying in Britain, LOL.

"Queen of the 'oo?"

For those not clicking on the links or who don't know the legend, this is (probably) the lake where King Arthur returned Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake (or to three fairy queens, or just tossed it in), after being mortally wounded in the epic battle (of Camlann) by his nephew or (accidentally incestuous) bastard son, Mordred.

People trying to boot Queen Elizabeth off the throne in favor of Matilda here are referring to the legend surrounding the Sword in the Stone, which may or may not be the same as Excalibur, depending on which story you are reading or movie you are watching. And Matilda is the name of an ancient queen of the Britons, so.... (In this version, possession of the Sword in the Stone/Excalibur confers rightful sovereignty over the kingdom.)

But if I remember correctly, Arthur received Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake after he became king. Maybe there's a different LOTL version, though.

All in all, something completely different. :wink

Not according to this authoritative documentary.

22.) Swamp Fox - 09/06/2017
LOL...That's what makes anyone who can keep track of all these legends...um...legendary.

I haven't seen that movie, but my New Republic link above gives an interesting review of it.
