1.) Swamp Fox - 09/11/2017
I'm watching the Giants vs. the Cowgirls, but I'm DVRing Napoleon Dynamite...
2.) DParker - 09/11/2017
While eating some delicious bass?
3.) Swamp Fox - 09/11/2017
LOL...

And tots! .. Gosh!

4.) Swamp Fox - 09/17/2017
Okay, so here's a question:

Why am I watching the Cowgirls and the Broncos in the late game on local TV (Fox), instead of the Redskins and the Rams (more local) which Fox announcers are promo-ing as one of the alternate games? Isn't Fox also broadcasting it? Or just promo-ing? They have a West Coast Game alternative as well, so if that's anybody's late game I'd be curious to know. If Fox is broadcasting the Redskins, why are't they airing it here? I can see a Panthers blackout here, but not the Redskins. Really? Does anybody know how this works?

My local game on ABC this afternoon was the Panthers, naturally, but the local Fox game was the Bears and the Buccaneers. I think I can drive to Philadelphia to watch the Yiggles and KC quicker than I can drive to Tampa to watch Chicago. (Though who would want to?)

I might need to know how Fox and ABC handle "local" games and blackouts for the future. I'm hanging in there with the NFL Sunday Ticket for one more year, more by accident than not. I thought I had cancelled it since DTV CS and TS was worse than useless last year. Let's see if they can get their act together with their mobile app this time around ... :rage: I probably won't put up with their incompetence forever, even if it means I'm stuck with only "local" football.

Enter your thoughts in the box below.
5.) Swamp Fox - 09/17/2017
BTW, the Redskins are playing in LA and the stadium is half-empty.

Even though it would be idiotic, I could see the NFL imposing a blackout in NC if the Redskins' stadium were half empty. Maybe the Dallas-Denver game is just supposed to be better, or of more interest.

So do blackout rules mean people in Denver and/or Dallas are watching Washington or the west coast game? If not, who are the poor bastards watching the alternate games, and what did they do wrong in life?
6.) Swamp Fox - 09/17/2017
Freakin' fumble rule. Mass confusion. Even Pereira says the Cowboys' first TD should have come from the defense.

LOL ...
7.) Swamp Fox - 09/17/2017
"Leverage"

Another stupid call (rule).

There was a similar call yesterday in college ball, although it wasn't explained. Defender jumped in the air on a kick for points (as best I remember, but it could have been a punt) and was called for it, although I didn't see where he even touched anyone, much less used leverage or jumped over anyone. Probably was the Ole Miss or the Texas game.
8.) DParker - 09/17/2017
How 'bout dem Raiderses?
9.) Swamp Fox - 09/17/2017
Haven't seen any of that game. That's not your local option is it? I'm hoping the tea leaves didn't mandate you couldn't see a Dallas away game. That would be even more screwed up than I already think the system is.
10.) DParker - 09/18/2017
Haven't seen any of that game. That's not your local option is it?
Nope. We're watching Dallas get spanked by Denver...until we change the channel in 10 minutes to see if Geen Bay can pull out another ugly win.
11.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2017
I'll have to study up on the black-out rules and the programming algorithm. I'm scared to death that if I give up NFL Sunday Ticket, somebody in a pointy hat will decide I need to watch 1/3 Carolina Panthers, 1/3 Cleveland Browns, and 1/3 New England Patriots.
12.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2017
Which would be even worse than watching any one of the other teams I don't care about all season...
13.) Jon - 09/18/2017

You're right, you should watch all 4 quarters and if it's the Pats, you should see a great team.
14.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2017
:-)

I've liked several of their players over the years, but I'll leave whether they're a great team alone ... LOL

Not a big BB fan, though I respect him.

He will stab you in the neck with a pencil.
15.) Jon - 09/18/2017
He will also win, very consistently
16.) DParker - 09/18/2017
He will also win, very consistently
So long as you don't count last week.
17.) Jon - 09/18/2017
Not saying anything here BUT, the last 3 superbowls the Pats won, they lost the first game of the season.
18.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2017
Huh. That's interesting. One of the sideline babes last night made a point about Denver (I think) last night. It was either they have trouble after a big win or go on a tear after a loss.

I guess it would be good for me to remember which---LOL--- but it was an impressive bit of trivia nonetheless.
19.) bluecat - 09/18/2017

That's only in domed stadiums in the month of October where the humidity was < 60% and the home team lost the coin toss. Jeesh.
20.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2017
I don't have a head for statistics--or even for sports trivia--so I have no idea how anybody comes up with information like this: "After a loss of more than 10 points, the three teams Joe Slobodnik has coached have gone on to win each of the next four games by 17 points or more every year his wife was pregnant."

Last night's trivia wasn't quite that obscure, but you could tell the play-by-play guy and the color guy were impressed ... LOL

22.) bluecat - 09/18/2017
Thank God there are people that do the research, otherwise the game wouldn't be as fun and we would lose interest.
23.) bluecat - 09/18/2017
Here are some stats that are interesting.

24.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2017
Post some hunting content and watch the numbers plummet ... I'm not kidding. Look at the views and replies to hunting threads compared to non-hunting. I'm not sure if it's funny, merely amusing, hysterical or just plain sad ... LOL
Tony Romo in the broadcast booth is REALLY good ...
Yeah (we ended up watching because only 4 Packers decided to be idiots). I didn't realize who he was at first, but near the end of the first quarter I told my wife, "I don't know who this guy is doing all the spot-on commentating but he's the best I've heard in quite a while."

She looked at me like I had two heads and told me it was Romo.
35.) Swamp Fox - 09/24/2017
LOL ... This is the first game I've had a chance to listen to him.

39.) Swamp Fox - 09/25/2017
In case people don't want to watch the Raiders and Redskins tonight, your local Fox station is probably showing Who Shot Biggie and Tupac? with Ice "I Like Him on Law and Order" T and Soledad "Huge Giant Libtard" O'Brien...

So you have that going for you, which is nice ...

Holy crap, that guy butchered the Anthem like Lecter Hannibal with a dinner guest.
47.) Swamp Fox - 09/29/2017
I missed that. I don't usually tune in until they start play, unless I want analysis.

Possibly why I haven't had an aneurysm yet.

48.) Swamp Fox - 09/29/2017
Bluecat is missing a hell of a weather delay.

Hey, how about that Falcons-Lions game?

Not only did they not get the Julio Jones fumble right (His forearm was down. So what! He coughed up the ball. Fumble! Old school, baby!)--- they ran time off the clock to rip off Detroit from a final play.

The NFL can't get out of its own way.
49.) Triton Rich - 09/29/2017
You couldn't possibly have less talent on this Bears team. One clown after another playing GM and they don't have a single position filled other than running back. Any idiot can find a running back.....

Cheer up, Rich. According to the paper, the next-up Vikings are in for it.
Maybe it’s a good thing the Vikings are next on the schedule. The Bears have won eight of the last nine meetings with the Vikings at Soldier Field. The Bears are also 5-2 on “Monday Night Football” since the 2013 season.

53.) bluecat - 09/29/2017
LOL! I hate commericals...

What we need are more shots of mascots beating on other mascots.
54.) Swamp Fox - 09/29/2017
Also, fewer shots of coaches and more shots of cheerleaders.

I mean, really ... How interesting is it to watch the coach looking at his playcard vs. seeing who made the pom-pom squad this year and following their careers online?
55.) DParker - 09/29/2017
Did I miss national anthem?
They did it during a commercial. ESPN commentary was going on and on about it earlier this evening, though. Outstanding analysis of slavery from some former football player I didn't recognize, but I guess he's studying 6th Grade Social Studies while he works his way through political commentary school. I learned a lot, but all the new wokeness started to hurt my brain after a couple of minutes and I changed the channel to find out what else is going on in the world.

I'm watching the game on a delay, so no spoilers.
68.) bluecat - 10/10/2017

73.) Swamp Fox - 10/10/2017

75.) Swamp Fox - 10/14/2017
Just heard James Jones (former Packer) talking about how they used to do Friday two-minute drills. He said offense would play defense, which is not unusual, but still notable, considering their respective rankings.

Rodgers: One minute, thirteen seconds ... Suck that, Cowboys!

Packers vs. Vikings coming up Sunday ...

:pop:

Has anyone figured out (including players) what the protests are about? I'm curious for me too.
78.) Swamp Fox - 10/14/2017
At this point, I think they're more about not being told what to do than anything else.

Teammates gonna team.

But I'm looking forward to a lot more spots about players helping in soup kitchens, camps for kids, hospitals and prisons. All very admirable, but not what I tune in to watch. The value of my DVR just went up.

I just wonder what will be cut out to accommodate. Commercials?

79.) Swamp Fox - 10/15/2017
LOL ... Commentators have gone there: Talking about Kaepernick going to Green Bay.

That's screwed up on so many levels.

Wishing Aaron Rodgers a speedy and complete recovery. Not sure he'll be back this season, though.

Tony Romo, anyone? ... :pop:
80.) bluecat - 10/15/2017
Tony is happy just running his barbecue restaurants. No need to play any more.

I think the two locations closest to me are Edmonton and Santo Domingo ....
82.) bluecat - 10/15/2017

I thought Jessica Simpson was a good catch, but nobody in the NFL could agree what that meant ...
88.) bluecat - 10/15/2017
When Tony dumped her, he gave her a "Sorry Charlie" letter.
89.) DParker - 10/15/2017
You know, as much flack as Jessica has always taken for being dumb (some of it valid), I do have to give her credit for being one of the few young girls who became famous pop singers at that time but didn't turn her life into a dumpster fire.

What good is a tire that can go 50 miles after being punctured by nails?

How many times have you been driving down the road and know your tire just got punctured by a nail?

I guess you can take comfort when you discover your flat that you got your 50 miles in.
96.) DParker - 10/16/2017
LOL! That's actually a pretty good point. (Yours, I mean...not the nail's.)
97.) Swamp Fox - 10/16/2017
Maybe when you're fleeing the 7-11 you just held up, and the cops put out some stop sticks in front of your getaway car ... Or maybe you're just frustrated at the airport because you can't find the exit (or new tires will cost less than the parking fee) so you escape through a spiked entrance ...

Just a couple of suggestions ...
98.) bluecat - 10/16/2017

I've developed the international hand signal for "Get off the phone and drive!"

I had been working on a "Put your thumb back where you had it before" sign specifically for texting and scrolling situations, but unless you have x-ray vision you can't really appreciate it at speed from another vehicle.
101.) bluecat - 10/16/2017
Does the signal involve just one finger?
102.) bluecat - 10/17/2017
So no anthem anymore. Must have been a scheduling conflict.
103.) Swamp Fox - 10/17/2017
Seems like they just didn't show it. I missed the beginning of the game and DVR'd the rest to watch later this week.

I'm fine if they don't broadcast the anthem and pregame ceremonies. Maybe showing stuff that they didn't used to (anthem, pre-game ceremonies) is why I have a bunch of games that ran over time this year. DVR didn't catch the end of several good ones. :tap:

The NFL already has enough trouble squeezing a game into three and a half hours without adding politics and stupid commentary to the mix.
Three weeks ago, the NFL's partner TV networks refused to show angry fans booing protesting players. Now, these worried networks are refusing to show any protests during the national anthem at all.

The TV partners flushed players' historic social justice protests down the memory hole in Week 6.

Protests? What protests?

There were virtually no live shots of NFL players sitting, kneeling or standing Sunday during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner," much less footage of fans booing players.

Instead, CBS, Fox and NBC chose to stay in commercial breaks during the pregame presentation of the flag and anthem. Once they returned from commercial, network play-by-play announcers and analysts paid little or no attention to what players did on the field.

ESPN planned to follow a similar playbook for Monday night's telecast of Colts-Titans, sources say.

The TV networks traditionally don't show the anthem except before the Super Bowl and other special occasions. But given news interest about which players were standing and which were kneeling, the networks changed their policies this season.
