Whacked this velvet 8 last night from a club stand. This buck came straight in from the field edge trail and hung out under my ladder for 5 minutes. I wasn't sure if I was going to shoot him or not until I saw he had full velvet. He finally decided he had enough and turned to go back where he came from, took one leap and then turned broadside at 7yds. I double lunged him and watched him take 3 leaps and then a step or two before he ran out of breath.

Congrats and nice shot! I had you on team 3 (team 86). Did you defect?

I didn't defect, just didn't volunteer!
And thank you! 4.) Swamp Fox - 09/13/2017
Very nice!
Is it common to have bucks still in velvet at this stage there? Even in August, I see more in hard horn than in velvet. Kind of a bummer. 5.) Jon - 09/13/2017
Not common at all actually. Normally, even on Sept 1st most (if not all) bucks you see will be all hard horned.
I wasn't going to shoot this deer until he got close enough to tell that he was full velvet, then the heart started pounding. Thankfully, I had enough time to calm myself. 6.) Swamp Fox - 09/13/2017
Especially cool, then. :tu:

When I stay calm, maybe it's time to quit. 16.) Jon - 10/16/2017
Shot this doe on Friday. She had a broken shoulder from a car accident maybe? One leg was shorter than the other and the hoof was also short. Muzzleloader, 75 yds, watched her drop. Top pic is entrance, bottom is exit.

Congrats deadeye!

I got my velvet antlers back from the freeze drier. They came out decent, just a little bit of shrinkage causing a few tears. Looks great though. Mounted on a fake skull and a plaque and went in the man cave.
