Namely, uniting Texas, Kansas City, Memphis and the Carolinas on the issue of BBQ:

Outstanding...
3.) Swamp Fox - 03/05/2018
I saw something the other day that said it wasn't smoked ... It was smogged.

There's been some kind of running joke on the fringes of the internet about NYC BBQ for a while ... Someone claimed it was the best, and I don't know if it was done ironically or not. But every once in a while, the joke pops up.

Those are home-made dinner rolls, too ... LOL

I'm sure some place in the city is claiming to do BBQ right, but considering you can't own a firecracker much less set one off there, I highly doubt there's anything resembling a smokehouse or a BBQ pit anywhere in the five buroughs.
4.) DParker - 03/05/2018
I mean, there's no reason why someone couldn't do good...even awesome...BBQ in the New Yawk area, or anyplace else for that matter. It's not like there's some magical force fields preventing the know-how from escaping the confines of more southerly climes. It's just that photo in question ain't an example of someone doing that.

When we went to Italy years ago one of the things I kept half-joking about was how great it would be to retire to the Tuscan countryside and open a BBQ shack just to see how the locals would react to it.
5.) Swamp Fox - 03/06/2018
Also, I would like to mock the mockers, who don't realize that more than half of what they think is BBQ is in fact NOT BBQ, and that's even if you leave aside the pork vs. beef issue. If you post a picture of any part of a chicken covered in some kind of sauce and claim it is "BBQ," you should be run off the internet. If you use the term BBQ as a verb or as a noun, with the intent of describing standing around a grill and flipping meat or meat-like products in a suburban setting, you should get a stern talking-to.

I could go on, but it would get ugly ...

I don't think the economics of the restaurant bidness in NY would let you slow-cook anything, especially over big open fires, and the pressure to phuck food up to make it trendy, unusual, expensive and rare would ruin it.

Look at the woman who's all over the food shows in eastern NC after cheffing in NY ... The Pig and the Farmer's Daughter .... The Farmer and the Cow ...something like that. It's the most messed up "country food" you've ever read a half-page description of or heard a waiter recite, plus expensive and not a gracious plenty of it, either.
7.) Swamp Fox - 03/06/2018
My Lizardman Tour business is a bit slow these days since the kids are more into eating Tide Pods than wading though the swamp looking for mysterious red-eyed monsters, so I'll throw out the invitation to anyone who wants to take up the trail of real BBQ in the Carolinas and maybe Virginia as a substitute.

Combine it with a hunting or fishing package and I will throw in the "Country Boy Can Survive" gunsafe music and lighting kit for free, a $49.95 value. (Batteries not included.)

You're probably right about the economics...but based on that photo I'd say they successfully resisted the above temptations. It still looks like crap, but it certainly doesn't look unusual, expensive or rare.

I got your homemade dinner rolls right here. [grabbing motion]
10.) Swamp Fox - 03/06/2018
No, of course not. Some dunce cooked something that tasted somewhat smokey and so he or she thought it was BBQ.

Also, I forgot to mention the little dweeb/yuppie/anti-hipster who wrote the article mocking the original should never be taken seriously again as a writer or a journalist for forgetting that without Carolina BBQ, there is no St. Louis, Texas or Memphis BBQ.

I mean really: write an article mocking faux BBQ but never mention Carolina BBQs?

"Begone, son ... You annoy me."

LOL ...

Biscuits or cornbread ...

The gherkin pickles were a nice touch, though. I don't have anything against them, but they seem somewhat deliberately NYC.

I would have done the sweet pickles just to piss everyone off.
12.) bluecat - 03/06/2018
I bet those rolls are still attached.

Do they sing Happy Birthday after the meal?
14.) Swamp Fox - 03/06/2018
Oh, you know they are.

And this is not to denigrate dinner rolls. The ones at Sizzler or Golden Corral or K&W or one of those places are excellente!

But let me get this off my chest: I know this guy is on our side, but this is not a BBQ plate (yet it got national attention as the sine non qua, or even the ultimate, at least as far as that stupid internet site goes).

I weep for our country when people think food drizzled with sugar-tomato sauce out of a bottle is BBQ.

I still haven't heard any mention of cole slaw either.

I'll bet it's unforgettable...in every way.

I bet that would taste good with Meatloaf's meatloaf.

For crying out loud, you took the words right out of my mouth.
24.) bluecat - 03/06/2018
Maybe for dessert, we could have some Halle Berry?
25.) Swamp Fox - 03/06/2018
Not my favorite song of theirs, but the video is pretty funny.

I think the studio version is worth listening to if you're on the fence, like between Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried.

26.) Swamp Fox - 03/06/2018
I haven't figured out the fascination with Halle Berry.
