So, Lone Wolf has some new stuff ...

:shh:
2.) Swamp Fox - 06/01/2019
$499 for the new LW Custom Gear hang-on stand, and you still have to hump it in and out and hang it yourself...

That will get this crowd off the couch and back on the internet ...
3.) bluecat - 06/01/2019
49.90 seems very reasonable.
4.) Swamp Fox - 06/01/2019
I think I'll wait a couple of years until the fan boys figure out it wasn't the silver bullet they were looking for and are on to the next shiny thing.

There could be a bloodbath on ebay ...

(Note: The platform is too small for my taste.)

Luv a few other things about it, though.

G5 deadmeat broadhead
6.) Swamp Fox - 06/03/2019
Is that what the kids are using these days?

If I were to sell all my old heads (fixed or mechanical) what should I buy to show I'm not "stuck in the 2000s" ?

I haven't seen anything new in broadheads that does much for me. They changed the G5 Stryker this year so I bought up some of the old ones off ebay. Those and Rage Hypodermics are still the ones I'll be carrying.

i shot my monster buck this year right in the middle of the heart with a deadmeat, of course it was pure luck, but the deer ran about 150 yards which i couldnt believe..blood trail was all right but the deadmeat stuck in the dirt about 3,4 inches...slice through it like hot butter..perfect expansion, all 3 blades open perfectly through the heart. you should give them a try.

I do like the way they handled making the seat into a cargo platform in transit.

I'm actually thinking about a tree saddle for mobile setups, especially a mile or two from the road.

If it wasn't so damn trendy and if I didn't have $1,000.00 invested in treestands, I'd pull the trigger on one.

But seriously ...

The amount of work it takes to prep a tree for a saddle is not insignificant, Plus the learning curve. I lean toward pre-hanging a stand without a seat (carry that in with you) or folding the stand against the tree and locking it upright with a cable. If you want to be less secretive, be my guest.

OK, so what 'prep' does it take for a mobile setup of any kind? Currently, if I want to be mobile I carry in a 10lb stand, 3 ladder sticks, and a couple of steps. I sneak around until I find some hot sign, find a decent tree and setup. What would be different with a saddle?

From what I'm seeing, if I had something like the Tethrd Mantis (https://tethrdnation.com/) I'd wear it in, carry 3 sticks and the 3lb platform along with a couple steps, find a good spot and setup. Not sure what additional prep there would be compared to a traditional stand. It would also eliminate wearing a safety harness.

I have the Hawk Helium sticks. I like them a lot, especially the fact that the steps are on both sides of the stick, not just one like the Lowe Wolf sticks. That makes a big difference in comfort when you're hanging the stand or climbing down in the dark.

3 won't get you to 18 ft though. I always bring in 3 strap on steps to use at the bottom of the tree, that gets me up an additional 5-6 ft.
38.) Swamp Fox - 06/19/2019
The blurb for the current sticks advertises them as heavy compared to what I know/can remember of the competition. However, you are right about steps on one level on each side of the stick. I bought a single "mini" Muddy stick for exactly that reason, though my other sticks are staggered because I like them staggered (and adjustable) until someone can convince me that there is a dual-step stick as light as a staggered stick. If I need to hang a stand and want to stand on two pegs at one level, I carry that Muddy stick to use at the top.

I'd have to kill myself in some type of meaningful shame ritual if I thought I was "mobile" humping 22+ pounds in search of a good tree around here. Which is why we're all keeping an eye on saddles.

The prep would be to eliminate the weight of the sticks and optimize shooting opportunities as you guesstimate the trees you might use and pre-drill and trim them ahead of time. Climb a tree around here blind and 90% of the time you have a shooting lane problem.

The Hawk Helium sticks are not heavy. Three sticks together weigh around 8 lbs. That is about the same as the Lone Wolf or the XOP sticks. I really like them for their fast setup and light weight, but mostly because it has a foot rest on each side that folds up.

I don't have to stand at the bottom of the tree and figure out how to start my ladder sticks so the step will end up on the correct side at the top by the treestand. That's like one of those stupid math problems we had to do in school.

"If Alex gets on a train in Syracuse and heads south toward Atlanta at 35 mph, and at the same time Mike gets on a train in Atlanta and heads north at 12 mph, at what time will everyone else want to get off and get away from each one of the McCombies?"

Everyone knows it's a trick question, no one would get on a train with either one. Geesh.

Ok, that makes sense. Usually around here by early Nov, you can find some kind of an opening to setup on, even in the thicker areas. The problem I normally have in the clearcuts I hunt is finding a decent tree that will work, where I need it to be. Most of the time a decent tree is 50 yds from where you want it to be.

I'm looking hard at the Tethrd Mantis. Might buy one this Summer.

Don't waste your time you will never get one when you order it. They take your money but you wont get any products. These guys are so chicken shit they don't even have a number to contact. All you get is videos about it and how they have one but they don't even have them to ship to anyone. I ordered in June and spent 600$ with them and still haven't got one!!! Id go with AERO saddle at least they give you shipping dates and have products to ship and they email you back the next day and have a phone number to contact at least!!

I was thinking of Mike just the other day ... Was wondering if the reason we haven't heard from him is he drove a forklift into a water sprinkler system one too many times ... I have no idea what excuse to give Alex ...

billy, I've seen a ton of good reviews. Not sure where you got that one from. I know everything is on backorder, their website says you can expect an 8-10 week wait. Add in how popular they're getting with endorsements from Eberhart and the Hunting Public, you can imagine how backordered they're getting.

I don't think the AERO saddle will even compare to the Mantis system. Too bad this site isn't filled with bowhunters who hunt and use equipment so you could get more input. The other 4 guys on here probably aren't going to use a saddle.

Where's Bob Peck's gear reviews when you need him? I miss ArcheryWorld or BowCountry or BowCountry 2.0. What was the one where you could make the screen black and the letters white?

But seriously: "I was told there would be no math."

I have faith you can gauge things correctly, or be a contortionist ...either one.

You could say you're my hero ... LOL
51.) Swamp Fox - 06/21/2019
In my opinion, the whole idea of light, mobile tree-hunting is ruined by dependence on climbing sticks ... until they start making them of graphite or unobtainium ...

Use some freaking climbing spikes like back in the day---Gosh!--- or prep trees ahead of time to accept a peg of some type...

Alternatively, hunters could set their alarms for 1:30 or 2 in the morning for a local jaunt ...

I don't know ... The current's pretty strong and the water's dingy like Starbucks "coffee-type drinks."

I prolly wouldn't look great in a wet-suit, either. Depends on who's lookin', though, I suppose ...

It could be a Tallahatchie Bridge Too Far, is what I'm sayin' ...

Does this wet suit make my butt look big?
80.) crookedeye - 06/30/2019
I would like to get one of those suits that Kim Jong Un wears the leader of North Korea. Damn things are going to be a hit in a couple years

He usually pokes his head in here around mid August, makes some disparaging remarks about forum participation, mutters something about some obscure buck ratio study in Pennsylvania and then he is gone till December.

You can set your sun dial to it.

No, I look like an old man in camo riding a bike. I haven't had any 'cool' molecules within 50 yds of me since 1991.
