1.) Swamp Fox - 06/26/2019
I recently almost bought one of their smaller coolers for a cooler emergency here at Camp Swampy, but it was 78 bucks, and that's a lot of somalians (H/T to CE :-)) when what I really want is a bigger $400 + cooler from another company when my ship comes in and I simultaneously have a fit of insanity. (Another one.)

Anyhoo .... I kept my money in my pocket and scraped by with one of my old coolers which has been collecting rainwater for the last several years, but what I'd like to no is everyone's thoughts on the OTs if they've used them.

Use the box below to enter your thoughts by tapping on a keyboard... The mental telepathy app has not been working so well around here lately, at least for me.

Maybe I'm just a cheap old bastard, but I still can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a single über cooler when I can get 3 Colemans/Igloos of the same size for the price. Yes, I'm sure there are some applications (mostly work-related) where the extra durability of a more well-constructed hunk of plastic makes sense in the long run. But after 15 years I'm only on my 2nd 150 qt Coleman "Xtreme" model, and except for the first one wearing out after a decade...mostly due to being left exposed to the sun too much...the only things I've had fail on them are the plastic hinges, and one drain plug that cracked on me. Both were quickly and easily replaceable with cheap parts, with the hinge replacements on my current cooler being galvanized steel that will likely outlive me.

So the short answer is that I'm not much help on this one, and am just here to boost my post count.

Oh, and...what are you doing posting while the sun is still out?

+5 for the umlaut. It's that kind of attention to detail that brings in the viewers.

Swampy, how do feel about garlic?

Bwwhahahahahahaw....

Did I ever tell y'all the story of a possible family connection to Transylvania?

(And not the Transylvanias of NC, Ky. and La., etc.)

I'm more than a touch prejudiced against the premium coolers, being a big fan from real-life experience of the Extreme and MaxCold coolers (Coleman and Igloo, respectively) but there are a few situations where I could use one of the oober coolers. (-5?)

[Won't bore everyone with the details right now.]

The thing I might dislike most about the small Ozark Trail is the bar handle. Otherwise, I think the performance of the OT seems to me to be on par with most if not all of the other premium boxes.

(BTW, they make a BUCKET cooler --ala Igloo-- which might make an awesome baitwell.)

Features and hardware are where these coolers seem to distinguish themselves from one another, rather than ice retention.

Change my mind.

Ouch. You can get all those for about 30% less from Amazon...and that's with Jeff Bezos getting his piece of the action.

I was referring to the young knucklehead in the yellow pants and bright blue skips dragging the huge wheeled cooler along a pristine mountain trail, led astray by the big-legged woman with the not-so-small soft cooler/purse containing tofu, acai berries and a cell phone charger, no doubt.
Swampy is demanding refrigeration justice. [:MakesFistIcon]
I think the proper term would be "frigeration justice" instead. (?) I mean, we're just holding on to some ice without the aid of a motor or winter, right? I think you need one of those two to qualify for the "re-".

I could be wrong, but I don't think so. :wink:beer:

(And BTW, I never want to go to an event called Fisticon ....)
14.) Swamp Fox - 07/04/2019
I'm liking the Lifetime coolers available at Walmart for the middle ground right now. Cam- action closures instead of the Ozark's infernal stretch rubber abomination. At least two convenient sizes off the shelf ...

There might be a third or more sizes available elsewhere ...
