The next time someone tells yout that Europeans are smarter than Americans, whip this story out and ask them how many Germans and Italians (who built the thing) had to have been involved in the design, review, construction, etc of this thing without even ONE of them stopping and thinking, "Hmmmmmm. You know Hans, zis reminds me of sumzink...."

LOL ...

Double stupidity .... My favorite kind.

Complete lack of awareness + total over-board reaction.

Change my mind.

Bonus Challlenge:

Who wants to debate whether it really was Steamboat Willy (or the SS soldier who knifed Mellish) who shot Capt. Miller in Saving Private Ryan?

You know, I always thought he looked a little different, but I wasn't certain enough to ever draw that conclusion. Great bit of trivia. Thanks.
4.) Swamp Fox - 08/22/2019
I think it's clear (once you take a moment and review the evidence) that Willy did not kill Mellish, but it's trickier to say that he did not shoot the private on the bridge (in the back) and then Capt. Miller as he was trying to reach the detonator.

The man who took those shots seems to have a peaked hairline, ala the SS soldier, but he does show exposed sleeves, ala Willy. I cannot see collar insignia, which would be definitive, nor do I see identifying wounds near the eye in other glimpses of Willy.

I do not think the shooter was Willy, but Willy was executed in retribution.

5.) Swamp Fox - 08/22/2019
The man Upham executed did not have the peaked hairline nor such obvious wounds around the eyes as the shooter, but we are led to believe he jumped out of the same hole Upham was observing, from which the private and Capt. Miller were shot.

It's obvious that Spielberg meant for Willy to be killed.

Is it obvious that he meant for Willy to be a killer?
6.) Swamp Fox - 08/23/2019
Okay, now that I blow the scene up to full screen, I can see the collar insignia on the shooter. It is Wehrmacht, not SS.

So now it comes down to wounds and hairlines.

I realize I'm fighting a bit of a losing battle here, but it's possible that the shooter's still lying in the hole, dead as a hammer, as Willy--the only other soldier without headgear--jumps up to escape. --- LOL

The frickin' Germans ... They all look alike.
8.) bluecat - 08/23/2019
I resemble that remark.
9.) Swamp Fox - 08/23/2019
LOL ... So does half of me, give or take ... LOL

But has anyone ever seen us in a room together?
10.) Swamp Fox - 08/23/2019
I'm lining up my various favorite versions of "O Tannenbaum" for the annual Christmas music thread as we speak ....

LOL

Well, now I'm afraid to mention we're less than 30 days out from Oktoberfest ....

15.) Swamp Fox - 08/23/2019
How about this for Nazi: I haven't been able to see comments on youtube for I don't know how long. Yeah, 99.9% of them were crap written by 14 year-olds, but every once in a while I learned something.

How'm I s'posed to give y'all any background on Prussian marching songs if I can't fact-check on Youtube what some old lady in Rudesheim am Rhein told me 40 years ago?

16.) Swamp Fox - 08/23/2019
That's a hoppin' little burg, by the way. There was also a VERY cute wine wench who gave me the googley eyes there about 25 years ago ... I'm fixin' to go back a third time as soon as I can scrape up the somalians ... LOL

I remember when SNL was just plain fun, before it went right down the crapper.
