Post your coyote stories, comments, love/hate feels, biological data (I'm lookin' at you, Luv2), huntin' 'n' trappin' experiences, et cetera here [in the box below, dummies] ...
I've seen more coyotes here in the last three months than I've seen total in my life ... That can't be good (unless you're a coyote) ...
Somebody needs to take the Friskies inside ...

I really only have 2 stories worth mentioning, and even the just barely worth it:
My son and I were still-hunting a power easement, set up along the tree line one side when a young coyote emerged from a clump of bushes not 15 ft in front of us. He slowly slowly walked about 5 ft into the clear, apparently oblivious to out presence when I decided to mess with him by clearing my throat. That was the most "Oh crap!" taken-by-surprise reaction I've ever seen from a critter in the wild.
The most interesting encounter was the one I related here a few years ago about the gorgeous big silvery coyote I saw while solo hunting one time. His appearance was exactly what I would expect from all of the descriptions I've read of the so-called coywolf.
That's all I've got.

Ha! The old cartoon freak-out-leap-into-the-air-and-run-in-place-in-thin-air-reaction is what's in my head.
I wonder how a coywolf finds his way to Texas? Are they not-unheard-of, or more like unicorns?

I had a big blonde 20 yards out my kitchen window a few weeks ago ... A coyote, I mean.
Also, I was attacked by a cougar on a hunting trip once, in my younger days. She was kinda silvery ...
It just goes to show you never know what will happen when you go to town for supplies ...

I had a big blonde 20 yards out my kitchen window a few weeks ago ... A coyote, I mean.
Also, I was attacked by a cougar on a hunting trip once, in my younger days. She was kinda silvery ...
It just goes to show you never know what will happen when you go to town for supplies ...

"Coywolf" actually refers to a couple of different coyote+wolf species hybrids, including Mexican wolves (native to TX) so they can be found most anywhere that the two come into contact. I'm not sure if anyone knows how common such crossings are, but it seems common enough that they've been identified all over the country. To the best of my aging recollection, this one is pretty close to exactly what I remember it looking like. But the odd thing is that this one is supposedly a cross with a gray wolf, which used to count TX as part of its natural range but is deemed to be no longer present in the state. So...I don't know.

I just heard a spot on NPR about dog-owners getting tickets for running around at parks unleashed ... I mean the masters got tickets because of the dogs running around ... Can I say "masters"? ... They (I mean NPR) tried to tie the story into covid and dog adoptions, and there's some little girl having nightmares, apparently, for some reason... Not sure she's in the country legally from what they said...

I do have a coyote story. I was in God's country (north central Nebraska) and driving down a road and saw four or five coyotes on their stomachs watching something over the hill. As I passed the other side of the hill I saw a flock of grouse. The coyotes were all lined up and contemplating their next move.

Also, folks here call this area God's Country ... if they're not from Ohio or California ... So the phrase is fading in popularity, and soon I'll never hear it again...

When I'm in the area, I often think about stopping back in to that oyster bar ...

I've always associated your area of the country with various monsters and sea creatures - bigfoots, smoke wolves, moth man, lizard people, skunk apes, you know.
Oh, and people sitting on their porch with no teeth or clothes.
