Massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, TX (on I-35 not far from Waco). Local news is currently estimating 60-70 deaths, but that's far from certain at this point. Several homes and other buildings in the area were destroyed. The plant is still burning and more explosions are possible, so the entire town is being evacuated.

My daughter and son-in-law drove through there on the way to/from their honeymoon.

Damn. Just....damn.

I saw that. Figuring out these recent events are a few of the areas I like them spending gummy $$$. FDA and FAA are two others.
3.) DParker - 04/18/2013
Now it seems that the reporter I was listening to got some numbers mixed up, and wrong. Updates are that something like 40-50 homes destroyed, up to 15 dead and at least 160 injured.

That is something you just never expect to see.

Definitely a shorts-filling sight right there. When I first saw the video of the explosion it reminded me of the one at the chemical plant in Henderson, NV (basically a suburb of Las Vegas now) back in the late '90s.

Horrible tragedy for sure!
9.) billy b - 04/19/2013
I had just got off the mower when I heard & felt the blast although I didn't know what it was, I live about 120 miles northeast of West, my prayers are with them for sure.

The Westboro Baptist Church has announced plans to picket at the funerals of the blast victims. These morons generally don't follow through on their claimed plans, but I almost wish they would...provided local law enforcement can be persuaded to find something to do on the other side of town for about 30 minutes or so. You know...just so the Westboros can be properly welcomed to town.

I'm ashamed to say they live in my city. They are constantly standing by the roadside with their little signs. We try to ignore them but when you see small kids carrying the signs with their hate-filled parents it makes you want to cry.
