Here's one.

A couple of the archery catalogs arrived the other day.

Quick Count of adult bow models:

Cabela's Archery Catalog

17 compounds
16 recurves
35 crossbows

Bass Pro Shops

30 compounds
12 recurves
31 crossbows

Discuss.
2.) luv2bowhunt - 06/26/2013
Crossbows suck.

Traditional is stupid.

Hope that helps!!

Seriously, crossbows are the future here in PA for sure. So much easier for today's hunter (45-65 age class) to master a crossbow than to put the effort into a conventional bow. Now that they are legal here, it is the weapon of choice for an ever increasing number. No surprise that the industry is heading that direction.

Last year the bucks brought into the taxidermy shop during archery season, crossbow kills outnumbered the compounds for the first time, and at a rate of 2:1.
3.) Swamp Fox - 06/26/2013
I always thought kill records from Ohio, say, were interesting...
4.) luv2bowhunt - 06/26/2013
No they aren't.

.....we could start our own argument clinic.

So are you lamenting the increase of crossbows or just musing over it?
5.) Swamp Fox - 06/26/2013
I'm just shooting the breeze...
6.) luv2bowhunt - 06/26/2013
Oh, for a minute I thought it was going to be a meaningful discussion.

I'll just switch gears and put my hand under my armpit and make fart noises.

Fffrrrrttttt, ffrrrrttttt, ffrrrttt.

Well, you set up a false choice, so I answered in the least untruthful way I could...
I'm just shooting the breeze...
Which broadhead is best for breeze?

Warning...pure unsupported-by-any-data speculation ahead:

Building on what luv2 said, I'd guess that a large part of the increase in x-bow use is due to firearms hunters who would not otherwise not be inclined toward archery hunting, but are wanting to extend their season by taking advantage of the newly-legal status of x-bows during archery-only seasons in so many states.

But I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Thank you, Director Clapper.

As for recurves, I purchased one for my daughter as she was enamored by the Hunger Games and the fact that daddy goes out hunting with his bow and doesn't hurt any animals. I was enamored too but for other reasons.

I am getting one for me and my wife so we can all shoot together. I'm pretty excited about the fact that we will be able to do something as a family and I will be able to shoot with them and not worry about draw lengths, peep rotation, cam timing etc. for everyone. I don't think they would enjoy the sport as much otherwise.

Who knows, I might just like it enough (and be good enough) to try and hunt with it. I don't want to get ahead of myself cause I really like compounds.

So...Are compound bows on the way out?

How about archery/hunting websites?

:pop:
28.) luv2bowhunt - 06/27/2013
Yes and yes.

Looks like JJ forgot to pay the bandwidth bill.
29.) luv2bowhunt - 06/27/2013
Crossbows and reality dance shows are the future. Deal with it Tarheel.
30.) Swamp Fox - 06/27/2013
Stolen Joke of the Day:

There's a new reality show about a midget psychic doing freelance work for police departments, wealthy widows, suburban housewives, etc.

It's called "Small Medium at Large."

:p

During the early days of WWII a Czechoslovakian refugee flees to England, where he enlists with the Royal Air Force. After demonstrating real talent for flying, and being quite short of stature, he eventually earns his wings as a fighter pilot.

One day, while flying a bomber escort mission over occupied France his formation is ambushed by a group of Messerschmidts. The new pilot's Spitfire is riddled with holes by the enemy planes and he is forced to eject over the French countryside. He lands safely in a freshly plowed field with a farmhouse nearby. Fearing capture by German patrols the young pilot makes his way to the house in the hopes that the residents will agree to hide him until it's safer for him to attempt to make his way back to England.

After reaching the house he knocks on the door and the burly old farmer answers the door, whereupon the young, short pilot asks, "Pardon me, but could you cache a small Czech?"

A guy walked into the local welfare office to pick up his check.

He marched straight up to the counter and said,
"Hi. You know, I just HATE drawing welfare checks. I'd really rather have a job."

The social worker behind the counter said,
"Your timing is excellent! We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful daughter. You'll have to drive her around in his 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL550 and he will supply all of your clothes. Because of the long hours, your meals will be provided. You'll also be expected to escort the daughter on her overseas holiday trips. This is rather awkward to say, but you will also have to, as part of your job assignment, satisfy her sexual urges as the daughter is in her mid-20's and has a rather strong sex drive."

The guy, just plain wide-eyed by now said, "You're bullshittin' me!"

The social worker said, "Yeah, well ... You started it

An elderly man is stopped by the police around 2 a.m. and is asked where he is going at this time of night.
The man replies, "I am on my way to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it has on the human body, as well as smoking and staying out late."
The officer then asks, "Really? Who is giving that lecture at this time of night?"
The man replies, "That would be my wife."
36.) Swamp Fox - 06/27/2013
LMAO!
