what type of broadhead is best suited for a crossbow..i'm thinking the spitfire..i want to make this as easy as possible so i can rack up the points for my team. and roll to victory. luv2 what type do you suggest?:-)
2.) Triton Rich - 08/25/2013
You know Jon loves his Spitfires and he's had lots of success with them. I didn't see what your crossbow was rated for speedwise, but you could try out the Killzone. It's basically like the Rage and will probably penetrate a little better than the Spitfire. I assume you will be getting the crossbow version of whichever head you choose? I believe the only difference is that the blades are held in a bit tighter so they don't deploy with the faster arrow launch.
3.) crookedeye - 08/25/2013
i bought the strikezone 350.i looked around on the web and the crossbow spitfires are the same as any spitfire..i like the killzones.. shooting them with my harder but just as deadly regular bow..lol i seen the killzones do have a crossbow version.
4.) Triton Rich - 08/25/2013
Now you probably remember but I'm more of a fixed blade guy myself. I was really impressed with the Truefire T1 last year, it's about as perfect a broadhead as I've seen. You seem to be leaning towards a mechanical, in that case, I prefer the rear deploying styles. I don't want to give up energy opening the blades on the jackknife style heads and then there is the deflection thing. I'm pretty sure deflection would only be a concern on extreme quartering shots, so as long as you avoid those, I'm sure any head will work. I'm gonna try out the Rage Hypodermic this year. The only problems I had with the original was that the blades could rattle loose and the ferrule was aluminum. The hypodermic solves both of those so I think it's worthy of trying.
5.) crookedeye - 08/25/2013
the new rage looks like one of there stronger heads..i like mechanicals because of the quick kills and blood trails. and accurate..i killed deer with 4 blade muzzy 1" that only went 40 yards and left a good amount of blood. i guess it where you hit them..

elk hunting this year?
6.) crookedeye - 08/25/2013
i thought g5 was coming out with a 2 bladed version mechanical to replace my beloved tekan 2 blade.. i guess not.
7.) Triton Rich - 08/25/2013
No elk hunting this year, gonna try next year for Wyoming again. Yeah I thought G5 was coming out with a Rage style head too. Hmmmm, maybe my getting older mind is playing tricks on me!

8.) Ohbuckhunter - 08/25/2013
Schwackers. Rage blood runners. Ill shoot a toxic out of my Xbow n see how it flys.
9.) crookedeye - 08/25/2013
them toxic look like they have no cutting surface..they look like thet bore threw the deer. kinda like a keyhole bit.
10.) Ohbuckhunter - 08/25/2013
We just left dano house. I gave him one. He will shoot something with it before we start hunting here. But you are correct on how it looks. To me I think there going to be bad ass. But we will see within a month.
11.) crookedeye - 08/25/2013
i cant believe i wasnt invited. what you all do? play xbox ghost sniper?
Sorry buddy! I assumed the 30 hour drive would be a much to ask you to tackle!
21.) crookedeye - 08/25/2013
i could have been there in 4 days..sure i would have burnt up all my vacation time..but who cares..
22.) Floyd - 08/25/2013
Toxic looks nasty.
23.) DParker - 08/25/2013
Toxic looks nasty.
Certainly an interesting design. But the cutting diameter is still only about 1", and the blades look like they'd be a real pain to sharpen.
24.) Triton Rich - 08/26/2013
I'm pretty skeptical about the toxic. I'm sure it'll fly great, it looks like it would be nearly "wind plane" proof. I don't like the core sample blade profile though. It seems to me that it would cause extra friction going through hide and bone and such. I also believe that it's not about cutting surface and the shape of the cuts that a head makes necessarily but more about how many bigger arteries you cut on the way through. That's why I think a 3 blade is probably very nearly as effective as a similar sized 4 blade. The toxic would just cut the same arteries twice. This is all based on intuition and no actual scientific study of course! I too am anxious to see how they actually perform in the field.
25.) Ventilator - 08/26/2013
Yeah CE, Dan-o looks to be in the same elk hunting form as he was the last time he went. :) This is judging from the pics & iphone video from past trips. I am curious to see what may happen to him this year. Thats after he mentioned falling in a river over his head and tripping for a triple somersault on the mountain side while using that same iphone i referred to a second ago.

It was awesome up North at Dan-Os . We all had a good time. SHot a 3D shoot in the VietCong , elk at 80yds in Dans yard, ate more food than you could imagine and got real friendly with Summer, the border Collie. It was also great seeing all yall in person ,some first time, some again. Looking forward to speed goat hunting with Dan-o and his dad this wed as well.

RamCats are also a good choice for x-bows. They fly extremely well at hi-speed. Ive tested them with my daughters CX x-bow.

Im guessing sharpening may be out of the question on these. Replacements seem to be fairly inexpensive. They remind me of the Crimson Talon. The CT does serious damage to a whitetail, even more vicious on your foam targets!
27.) crookedeye - 09/28/2013
i decided on the spitfire max 1 3/4 cut..now all i need is to get my cross bow back from being reserved..somehow the cable derailed from the slots its supposed ride in and screwed up my serving.. this things been a headache since day 1..
28.) crookedeye - 09/28/2013
blood will be spilt next weekend..just as long as i can get out of my great great grand parents, somthing like 200th anniversary party at pizza hut..
29.) crookedeye - 09/28/2013
did you ever watch old old people eat pizza before? its not pretty..
30.) crookedeye - 09/28/2013

all i can say its not really a pleasant weekend for me..
31.) Ohbuckhunter - 09/28/2013
Your going to enjoy every bit of it huh.
32.) crookedeye - 09/28/2013
