Hello all. I have a 70's Western Field 500ABD 12ga shotgun that I pulled out of the closet to get it ready for deer season. Have not shot it in a few years so I thought I would use it this year. A few years ago I put a Mossberg 500 rifled slug barrel, a 4x scope with weaver mount on it. While cleaning it out/off the other day I noticed that at some point the rear riser sight is broken and does not have the little elevation plate anymore.

Does anyone know where I can get a new rear sight for my gun.

The closest one that I found is this one right here....

Would this be the proper one?

Thanks in advance

Your best bet is to check with a good gunsmith who might be familiar with that gun. You need to match the rear sight up with the front sight, obviously.

At the same time, I'd call Brownell's and whether or not they have that rear, ask them what they would use to match up. They have a ton of parts info there and the technical support guys are excellent. Plus, if they have that rear, it is very likely they know exactly what guns and what fronts it will work with.

The Western Field 500ABD is just a re-branded Mossberg 500, so I would imagine that anything that will fit the latter of the same year should work on your gun.

Here's one for $27.99 at MidwayUSA: http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/973404/mossberg-sight-assembly-rear-mossberg-500-20-12-gauge-835

I looked at Brownells and didn't see any that look similar. Maybe didn't look hard though though. I don't have any gunsmiths in the area just a couple ma and pa gun shops and big box stores.

Ya I know it is just a rebranded Mossberg 500 that's why I put a Mossberg 500 rifled slug barrel on it. besides that one isn't even close. It is a flip down dovetail rear sight. Just like the one I provided above.

Call Brownell's anyway. Especially if you don't have access to a gunsmith, and since they may have alternatives. Lyman also should be able to tell you if the one in your original post will work. You might check with Marble Arms as well.

My bad. I missed that you were talking about the the slug barrel rear sight. When I saw you mention the scope I (incorrectly) assumed you were referring to the same barrel I have with the integral canteliever scope base, with the sight question being about for use on the older barrel that came with the gun. Instead you're referring to either this one...

...or the fiber optic one, correct?

Ah, OK. That's one of the older discontinued slug barrels.

In any event, if it's a dovetail fitting then I would think that most of the flip-up replacements that pop up in a search for "mossberg slug barrel replacement rear sight" or some such should work. The replacement doesn't even need to be an exact match for what you have so long as it's close and elevation-adjustable. But I agree with Swampy's recommendation of contacting Brownell's (or maybe even MidwayUSA) and letting them know exactly which barrel you have just to make sure whatever they have will work.

Must do some business with them I take it.

Thanks everyone for the help. Brownells showed me what I needed. Now the wait begins till it arrives.
