Here's a video of a nice buck I saw this morning. He was hanging around at about 90 yards and no amount of calling would move him closer. The video isn't great, it was captured on my cell phone through a 20x spotting scope. I'm attempting a fawn distress call in the video so watch your volume setting. I would guess him right near P and Y. I'm leaving in a few minutes to try and intercept him!

Hope you get him.

Well the snow moved in this afternoon. It was a beautiful evening hunt but didn't see him or any other deer. Hopefully, he hangs around.
5.) Hunter - 12/09/2013
Good luck with him, Rich!

Rich we need the points. I'm going to provide a big 0 for our team, so stop screwing around and kill something.:-)
7.) Wild Bob - 12/09/2013
Beautiful buck! Keep after him!
8.) Swamp Fox - 12/10/2013
:tu:....Nice buck.

How'd you rig the phone/spotting scope combination? That's a new one on me! :-)

I figured out last year that I could hold the cell up to the binoculars and it would focus pretty well. I also figured out that it was absolutely impossible to hold everything still and in alignment by hand! This year, I got a cheap 20x50 spotting scope (Alpen). I bought it with this particular stand in mind, I can see lots of territory and often see bucks far away that I'd like a better look at. It just so happens that I got one of those holders for a cell phone that you're supposed to mount in your car. I rigged it up using some of that metal strap with the holes in it that you use to hang pipes. The scope has a mini tripod, I taped that to a branch with electrical tape. It's all highly technical and far beyond the average joe's ability! :wink I could certainly take some pics of it if you'd like.

LOL...Sounds like it might win the HuntingCountry Redneck Gear of the Year Award for Most Innovative, Digital Technology category...Or the Most Hi-Tech Use Of Duct Tape award...

I had no idea you could get any kind of view shooting a phone camera through a spotting scope without an adapter...I mean, I've seen digi-scoping adapters for REAL cameras, but c'mon....This is brilliant!!!!

Yeah I've seen the adapters on ebay, apparently it's a scam. I set mine up wth the phone right up against the scope. It started out with a little circle but I zoomed in with the cell camera and it filled the screen. I need to work on V 2.0 where the phone is mounted sideways so the video is normal not tall and skinny! Maybe I'll make it out of titanium and high grade delrin and sell it for $900!

Looks awesome
19.) DParker - 12/11/2013
Brilliant! But it needs more duct tape and some twist ties scavenged from loaves of Wonder Bread.
20.) Triton Rich - 12/11/2013
I have a feeling the sideways mount won't be quite so tidy. It may very well involve some duct tape and twist ties!
