Sorry I missed this thread til now. I'll post a pic soon as I can.

Question, though:

If my math is correct, I think my bird is either 38.5 points or 37 points, rather than 36, depending on whether you rounded me down for one spur being 1/6 shy of my original estimate and report.

That is, beard at 11 inches = 22 points

Spurs at 7/8 + 6/8 (original report) = 16.25 points

Gun kill equals 38.25 points (no 10-point bonus for archery).

+++

Or, rounding down one of the spur measurements because it was 1/16 short of 6/8, say, upon a second measurement:

Beard 22 points

Spurs at 7/8 + 5/8 = 15 points

Total 37 for gun kill.
I'll post some pics later tonight if I don't pass out...Been up since 4:30 (AM LOL), hunted all day (run-and-gun, shotgun) killed a nice gobbler at 4:10 PM. Worked him for three hours, the bastard.

I'm gonna double-check the measurements right now but don't think I'll come up with anything different from what I got in the field. I'm by myself which makes pics and measuring difficult, but I'm gonna say an honest 11 inches on the beard (medium paintbrush, LOL) and spurs at 6/8 and 7/8. I do have a scale here so I'll hang him up for S&Gs... He's not a beast, but he made me cry a little toting him out. :wink

Later, gators...

Well, the pics aren't gonna win any prizes since I only have two hands, a "sort of a" tripod and a camera that won't do what I need it to to focus on itty bitty details...Plus there's the sad little peabrain God gave me...

I'm sticking with 11 inches on the beard, and one of the spurs might be 1/16 shy of what I said above. You can mark me down or round it up... It makes no nevermind to me. Yay, team! LOL

The scale said 21 pounds on the nose.

Thanks.

Called him. Sneaking around some fields, I spotted a hen, and that's when the fight broke out...:wink

I'll post the story later.

++++

Alright, I'm gonna try the upload thing again.

Here you can plainly see that the bird is 21 pounds:

I got so tired of not being able to focus tight on the spurs, that's what you get for the scale.

Here's the beard:

Sorry about the measurement pic, but it's a PITA by yourself. I've already taken out an ad for some help for next time:

Congratulations!

Congratulations!
31.) DParker - 05/05/2014
Sitting behind that bird with that grin on your mug you look like Bullz-I with a chicken. Your mushroom killer's got a good war face goin' though.

Nice gobbler. It was kind of your wife you let you pose with her bird. That and the morels should make for a good meal.
32.) crookedeye - 05/05/2014
nice bird..them are some good lookin morels too..squirt some cheese in there ,bread them and fry them up..

34.) Ohbuckhunter - 05/06/2014
I should also note I was back asleep by 7:30 than to the taxidermist by 10. Mowed 6 yards than walked around n found 23 morels that day than found 54 yesterday. All this walking is getting me in shape for mine n CE elk hunt.
35.) Hunter - 05/06/2014
Way to go, Dave!! Nice bird:tu:
36.) bluecat - 05/13/2014
Team 2 checkin in:

Beard was 9" at longest strand. Spurs were 3/4". Sorry I cut the beard off and don't have spur measurement validation. It's a lot to deal with in the field.
I ended up cutting off beard and foot and measured after I got back from trip.
37.) billy b - 05/13/2014
Who does your nails bluecat? Nice beard.
38.) Swamp Fox - 05/13/2014
3/4 each spur or 3/4 together?

Congrats on your bird!

Next year I think we should make it a requirement that a swimsuit model must appear in all measurement pictures: "Here, babe, hold this tape measure for me a second...Is this camera on?"
39.) bluecat - 05/13/2014

45.) crookedeye - 05/18/2014

46.) crookedeye - 05/18/2014
you ever see floyds eyebrows??? them things are thick...he combs them every morning...
47.) Hunter - 05/18/2014
Saw CE was posting in this thread and mistakingly thought that he might have been actually out hunting!
48.) crookedeye - 05/18/2014
you no better than that..

I was watching reruns of mountain monsters...
49.) Ohbuckhunter - 05/21/2014
So does anyone else still hunting. Ohio went out a couple days ago.
50.) Swamp Fox - 05/21/2014
Pa., NY and Nebraska are Kansas are still in, as far as I know.

Whether our fearless representatives there have hung it up for the year is a different question, but they seem a hardy lot. :wink
51.) bluecat - 05/21/2014
I'm still putting in the effort but I just see Toms following hens around and they ain't about to give up on that.
52.) Swamp Fox - 05/21/2014
Jump in front of the hens....but you knew that. :tu:

My gobbler this year was doing the same thing. I worked on him for three hours (fortunately he and the two hens wanted to stay in the area) most of it without being able to see him or what he was doing. I think he bred one of the two (glimpsed some wing action through the brush, so I'm just guessing) just before one or the other of them led him right past my ambush at 4+ in the afternoon.

I'd been out since 1.5 hours before dawn. Longest I've ever chased turkeys without any break, and I was literally fixing to give up and leave when I saw red approach my shooting tunnel in the thick stuff. I must have had an extra dose of determination that day.
53.) Deerminator - 05/22/2014

In addition to the swimsuit model, I think we should recruit someone who can run a calculator...Maybe a sexy accountant...I don't know. I'm just thinking out loud.

I think everyone should check their scores :wink...or what they're smoking...:ach:...Or both...:wink

56.) Ohbuckhunter - 06/06/2014
I've been known to make mistakes. But what scores are wrong.
57.) Deerminator - 06/06/2014
I don't have any score for one;

that's just not right:bang:
58.) Deerminator - 06/06/2014
I've been known to make mistakes. But what scores are wrong.
Don't make me come up there and spank you...
60.) Ohbuckhunter - 06/06/2014
I need roughed up every once in a while. Seriously don't have allot of time to go figure it out who's wrong. Sounds like mine is from the questions
61.) Swamp Fox - 06/06/2014
Bluecat and Hunter are too, by a little bit, but yours is way off, LOL...I'll recalculate if folks don't want to do it themselves....It's just one of the services I provide...:wink

Not nitpicking or being ornery, just poking :fire: :wink...Team 2 wins in a rout even with the proper scores.

I have the numbers already prepared on a cocktail napkin, so it's not like I'll have to hire someone...

P.S. This is all assuming I can read what I think I'm reading in the reporting posts. :wink
62.) Ohbuckhunter - 06/06/2014
1 3/8 spurs on both sides 27.5
11.5 inch beard 23

That's what I came up with for mine.

Figure them out if you have time. I could be doing them way wrong.
63.) Swamp Fox - 06/06/2014
Shot a bird last Thursday. 11.5 beard 1 3/8 spurs. Shotgun.
Well, if he has TWO spurs at 1 3/8 that makes a difference, LOL... I read it as 1 3/8 total spur measurement, which would have given you 36.75.

So, with two spurs, you are correct at 50.5. :tu:

Hope I didn't cause a panic, LOL.

I get 48.25 for Hunter and 35.5 for Bluecat.

Again, depending on reading comprehension, LOL.
64.) Swamp Fox - 06/06/2014
So here's the big question:

What does CrOoKedEYe win?
65.) bluecat - 06/06/2014
I've got some home videos of some ballet recitals I'd send him.
66.) bluecat - 06/06/2014

67.) Swamp Fox - 06/06/2014
LOL...Sounds good...
68.) crookedeye - 06/08/2014
I never did get a prize.. I was on like a 3 year win streak..i could do no wrong..
69.) Swamp Fox - 06/08/2014

How's that?

70.) crookedeye - 06/08/2014
whatever!
71.) Hunter - 06/08/2014
Hey! You won back your used broadheads. What are you complaining about? :tap:
72.) crookedeye - 06/08/2014
I actually had a fun year turkey hunting this year even if I only got out twice..

broadheads?? wasn't that for the superbowl??lol

what? you mean you didnt get those yet??? somthing must of got fouled up in the post office..
73.) Swamp Fox - 06/08/2014
Check with Bullz-I...He knows his way around postal problems...LOL
