Is resident Obama going to do anything or not? This reminds me of the hunt for the weapons of mass destruction. We talked about how and where we were going to search for them for months and then lo and behold when we did there was nothing to find.

He has known about ISIS for a year and did nothing. He claims, though that he didn't know anything about them. They've beheaded two journalists so far with another one in the wings. They've threated the United States http://dailycaller.com/2014/08/08/isis-threatens-america-we-will-raise-the-flag-of-allah-in-the-white-house/, claiming to not stop until the black flag is flown over the White House and now threatening Twitter: http://blog.sfgate.com/stew/2014/09/08/twitter-employees-threatened-by-isis-affiliated-group/

They are not a JV-team and not to be taken lightly. Take 'em out. Take 'em out now.
2.) Hunter - 09/09/2014
I agree 100%! If someone declares war on the US then by all means wipe them out.
3.) Deerminator - 09/09/2014
Obama is not a tough guy.Ya ever see him throw a ball?

They've know about isis for alot longer than a year.
4.) bluecat - 09/09/2014
They run a segment on Fox where they send a reporter out into the streets and ask them questions about current politics. Most people didn't know what ISIS was.

They asked some yuppies what we should do about ISIS and they responded that we (United States) should talk it out with them. The reporter (Jesse Watters) asked how that would be possible without a head.
5.) bluecat - 09/09/2014
I'm sure Obama will lay out the entire strategy. He's just that smart.
6.) Swamp Fox - 09/09/2014
Not to downplay the threat of ISIS there and its ideology coming here, but I wonder how big a threat it is to have a President who is willing or wired to lie to the American people in the face of plain facts against him. Instead of saying "I underestimated ISIS," he denies he was referring to them when he spoke of the JV. No one with access to videotape or a newspaper is fooled, but he feels compelled to throw that horseshit out there anyway.

Of course, if he admits he underestimated ISIS, where does he go from there? I suppose he could tap dance around why he chose which words over the last several years when AQ is clearly not on the run, ISIS is clearly not the JV, and I could go on from there. But he's in a box of his own making.

The man's a disgrace.

The NY Times calls him out:

0 admits error in Lybia, Denies Same Error in Iraq

http://dailycaller.com/2014/08/09/obama-admits-error-in-libya-denies-same-error-in-iraq/

Living in a fantasy world:

...
In an interview with the New York Times on Aug. 8, President Obama said the notion that ISIL’s rise could have been stopped or hindered if he had armed the secular, more Western-friendly Syrian rebels at the start of the civil war—a view recently endorsed by his former secretary of state, Hillary Clinton—“has always been a fantasy. This idea that we could provide some light arms or even more sophisticated arms to what was essentially an opposition made up of former doctors, farmers, pharmacists and so forth, and that they were going to be able to battle not only a well-armed state but also a well-armed state backed by Russia, backed by Iran, a battle-hardened Hezbollah, that was never in the cards.’”

Ironically, in the same interview the president also defended the U.S.-supported NATO military intervention in Libya on the grounds that without it, “it’s likely that Libya would be Syria.” One wonders if Syria itself would “be Syria” had its armed nationalists been adequately supported since 2012 and had the Assad regime’s mass terror-delivery systems been neutralized in the summer of 2013 following the chemical-weapons atrocity, when more than 1,400 people were killed in an attack outside Damascus.

...

What is truly curious, however, is the request to Congress for $500 million to finance what the president deems a fantasy. Indeed, if press reports are true that the United States is already involved in some low-level arming, equipping and training of Syrian rebels, one wonders how many taxpayer dollars have already been spent on something the commander-in-chief deems illusory. What is Congress now to make of this $500 million request? What are military planners at the U.S. Central Command to make of the midnight oil they have been burning trying to give shape to something they thought was real? What exactly was the purpose of whatever interagency process produced the $500 million initiative in the first place?

'Wipe them out'

A fairy tale concept. You might as well try to wipe out crime or hate or prejudice. You kill one rat, 2 more take their place. I'm all for action and protection of our citizens and our interests, but wiping out an ideology is impossible.

How many of these groups have we seen? Get rid of one, another will pop up.

Agreed. However, the odd concept of placing a $50,000 Hellfire on a pickup truck full of rats in black pajamas and face masks does somehow seem appropriate. One side of my brain says it's wasteful. The other side says "Keep 'em coming."

Death by a thousand very expensive pin pricks at the very least has to be annoying when you're trying to crush people on the way to an Islamic state.

I agree with what you are saying. If they were "over there" killing each other peacefully I wouldn't give a rat's ass. However, my survival instincts have kicked into gear and I believe our safety is in danger.

While I agree that an ideology is more powerful (and potentially more dangerous) than an army or a state, the Obama administration and its fellow travelers should be reminded that we no longer face an existential threat from German national socialism or Japanese imperialism, nor (for the time being) from Soviet-style communism. Why? Because we recognized that just because we would like things to be one way, the enemy gets a vote.

Some people like to say we are war-weary. Few of them will admit it's not up to us.

This is the best day I've had in a long, long time. 3 Heavyweights agree with me...........but......

There's always a but isn't there? I agree with each of you that it sure feels good and American to 'wipe them out', but this isn't like any other war we've gotten into. I personally like the thought of flies crawling on their eyeballs, but I am a realist. We will be dead and in the ground and they will still hate us and any Christian, or nation, or group they view as infidels.

I agree with this, let's keep them from coming over here or invading our legitimate interests. And don't think for a second I can stand any part of them or their false religion.

A clash of civilizations is not too dramatic a term.

Fundamentalist/radical Islam will only be conquered from within, and stranger things have happened. In the meantime, we should be under no illusion that "No Victor, No Vanquished" is anything but a suicidal philosophy. Yet apparently that doctrine is what 0 is hanging his "hope" on. You didn't think that was what he meant back in the old days, did you?

As a Civil War buff I get into discussions all the time. A couple months ago someone asked me "when was the war a lost cause for the South?"

I always reply to that, when they fired on Fort Sumter. They had no chance to sustain a war long term against a more powerful and numerous society. I'm thinking the Germans would have run out of fuel long before they made it to Hawaii.:wink

You'll never wipe out flies, mosquitoes or rats, but if you stay on your toes and make a deal with the spiders, bats and cats...you can keep the pests in check.

I don't know if that's a truly applicable metaphor, but I do like to churn out some folksy wisdom-sounding stuff every now and then just to keep in practice. :-)

adjective

adhering to a religion other than one's own.
"the infidel foe"

It may not be exactly hate coming from Christians (although I know many who do hate) but no matter your religion every faith claims exclusivity. Christians call Muslims non-believers, Muslims call Christians infidels. Big deal. It all boils down to the stake you put in the ground and perhaps just as important if you put *any* stake in the ground. We have to die to find out who's right.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
-John 14:6

A less-than-highly-educated-but-nonetheless brilliant friend of mine said:
"When was the last time you saw a Lutheran pissed off enough at a Catholic to kill him? Or a Baptist willing to corral other Baptists into believin they should roll into town and slaughter Presbyterians? Seems like them Sunni's and Shiite and Suffis jest cain't git along amongst each other let alone, let us be."

I pointed out the "troubles" in Northern Ireland but I guess that didn't count to my friend because it's not happening today. He's funny like that.
27.) Swamp Fox - 09/10/2014
Well, the other thing that he might have been thinking is that the conflict in the north of Ireland has long been more political than religious, a power struggle between a majority that thinks of itself as "British" while professing one way and a minority which thinks of itself as Irish and happens to profess differently. Quite a brew there before you even get around to religion, in fact. Housing and job discrimination have nothing to do with religious doctrine, just for starters. And I really mean just for starters.

Beyond that, there are/have always been more than a few Catholic Unionists and plenty of Protestant nationalists.

But your main point is a good one. We all have our tribes. I think it's basic human nature. Christians quit killing each other en masse (over matters of religion and the religious state) when the power of the people became at least equal to the power of the leaders, coinciding with the decline of the doctrine of the divine right of kings.

Come to think of it, Christians quit killing non-Christians in religious wars even before that. Huh.

My Magic Eight Ball tells me (and I'm paraphrasing here) the same will eventually happen in the Muslim world, but not in the foreseeable future. (The exact quote from the MEB was "Don't count on it" but I'm trying to not be a downer.) They have managed to keep looking forward to the 7th Century this long; I don't see that changing any time soon without outside influence and even more from inside.

Over two billion Muslims in the world as far as I know. If only 5% of them are radicalized, that's 100 million knives at someone's neck. If another 5% are sympathizers, and another 5% too intimidated to do anything but follow orders...That leaves the 85% that we've seen out in the streets protesting the ideology and methods of the radicals.

Oh, wait.

I'm being sarcastic: Don't cut my head off.

Doesn't really seem like a "manageable problem" to me.

To be fair, you don't see any more than a tiny fraction of any significant demographic group out in the streets protesting anything. But I'll agree that gap between the number of Muslims publicly raising hell about their radicalized cousins and the number that really need to be doing that is greater than most other similar disparities.

Point taken, but we have a Unitarian Universalist Church in Boiling Springs. They accept pretty much anything, gathering what they consider the best of all beliefs. Christianity, Jewish, Humanist, Buddhist.

I got into a discussion with a neighbor who goes there, and came to the point that they accept anyone, except someone who believes his faith is exclusive. They exclude that belief. Uhhh.........:re:

Unity Church is kinda like that. They draw from a lot of different religions/disciplines/philosphies which I appreciate. But any church that accepting has its share of oddballs.
