1.) Swamp Fox - 09/16/2014
for some reason?

My post of a few minutes ago does not appear in the thread. It is showing on the Forum page on the right in the column of recent posts.

Same thing happened to Wild Bob yesterday.

What the funnel cakes truck?
2.) bluecat - 09/16/2014
Noticed the same thing. It's possessed.
3.) Swamp Fox - 09/16/2014
They should make Crookedeye a moderator so he could fix this kind of thing around here...
4.) Wild Bob - 09/16/2014
See, it had nothing to do with 'Weird Bob' Floyd! :bad: :-) (humor)
5.) Ventilator - 09/17/2014
More secret squirrel bullshit!
6.) luv2bowhunt - 09/17/2014
I locked it yesterday. It was getting boring.
7.) Swamp Fox - 09/17/2014
Well, unlock it then...We have important things to talk about.

On the other hand, we could talk about talking about stuff here...
8.) Wild Bob - 09/17/2014
Thus, the mystery of the locked Hunting Topic of the Day continues...better bring in the Hardy Boys to figure this one out...
9.) Wild Bob - 09/17/2014
I like your idea - what say we carry on here?

Here's one: Let's talk about the touchy feely topic of 'Journaling.' Personally, I've started and stopped more hunting journals than I care to remember. I always think to myself that it is a waste of time....then, next thing I know, I find myself trying to remember a specific spot (or a particular detail) that I vaguely remember from several years before and realize that may be keeping up with a journal is not such a waste of time. Any other thoughts, experiences, or words of wisdom in regards to 'Hunting Journals?'
10.) Swamp Fox - 09/17/2014
I'm down with moving over here temporarily...As long as the other thread gets fixed soon. I'm going for the record on Pages, Posts and Page Views over there...It's like the Triple Crown of Forum Achievement.

I've never been able to keep a journal consistently. I do carry a little notebook with me in the field (Rite in the Rain---good stuff) and have for many years. I use it to jot down startling and ingenious thoughts, buck sightings (this is how I know there is a rut most years) and where I left my trail cameras or hid stuff in the bushes. Also contains some of my Great Ideas for modifying or acquiring gear. I have one for fishing, too.

My problem is keeping it organized. I have about three or four pages in the current book marked "Stands". Not only do I have to figure out what year those pages relate to, I have to decipher the history of stand names as they change over the years. Stands like "Jessie's Loop" I will tend to remember, but something like "The Crossroads Stand" is liable to give me trouble, even within the same hunting year, LOL.

Lets bring in the Barbi twins instead.

12.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2014
That seems better...
13.) Wild Bob - 09/18/2014
You lost me...why is it better? The original thread is still locked.

What's the topic today maestro? I tried to get one rolling yesterday, but no one besides you and me wanted to discuss journaling...
14.) bluecat - 09/18/2014
Moth of us kant red nor rite
15.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2014
The Barbi Twins seem better than the Hardy Boys...LOL

I suggest...Well, hmmm...Well, I suggest we give keeping a hunting/outdoor journal a little more time. Maybe there are one or two other guys on the internet who have tried it.

Also, I suggest we don't call it journaling. Sounds too much like scrapbooking. Plus cavemen probably didn't do it. They just drew pictures on cave walls. I think the closer to cavemen that we keep everything, and the more pictures we can use, the better the guys will like it.

Maybe use fewer words, too...LOL...Look at what's happening in the newspaper/magazine world. :wink
16.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2014
What we need around here is some young whippersnappers telling us that Whisker Biscuits suck and asking about crossbows...

Also, starting polls on who's the hottest female hunter on TV.
17.) Hunter - 09/18/2014
Swampy, Swampy, Swampy................ break down and get a Smart Phone! GPS app allows you to mark stands, buck sightings, toilet paper stashes, etc.

Apps for notes makes your journaling neat and presentable.

There is an app for just about anything you want to do!

Quit fighting the trend, buckaroo! (notice the horse-themed reference?)
You lost me...why is it better?
You want to know why the Barbi twins are better than the Hardy boys, and what got your attention in my previous post was the square pie. I'm starting to worry about you Bob. Er, I mean...not that there's anything wrong with that. :wink
What we need around here is some young whippersnappers telling us that Whisker Biscuits suck and asking about crossbows...
And wanting to know how to maximize their arrows' kinetic energy.

We'll break him down eventually. Maybe even get him to see the error of his cake-preferring ways.

I hadn't thought about the toilet paper stashes!---- Brilliant!

And three points for the horse reference!

OK, how about we call it flipping marking...how does that grab you? :bang:

I agree cavemen just did it in the most basic fashion. The problem with many of today’s hunters is that a lot of men are emasculated and regulated to keeping their 'cavemen things' out of the main living space. It makes me sad to see nice mounts and other 'cavemen paraphernalia' banished to garages and other out buildings (Now if that is the chosen place by the hunter, then fine. But most guys, (I mean current cavemen) that I talk to have to do it by law of the house, and we all know what I'm talking about there.

OK, so here is a typical entry that should work for everyone: '****ing big buck in under old oak tree, on 10-28-2012.' I certainly wouldn't want to get too literary; might I offend my fellow cavemen! :re:
21.) Deerminator - 09/18/2014
ya spelled it wrong, it's @#%*Iing BIG:-)
22.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2014
Wild Bob, Wild Bob, Wild Bob....keep your loincloth on! :wink

People aren't used to writing down anything for themselves, especially these days, is what I think. Heck, lots of schools are thinking about doing away with instruction in cursive writing. What does that say?

The other issue is time and will. It's one thing to jot down deer sighting and stand locations. It's another to write yourself a note about how your day went, what you did and what struck you as "noteworthy", to coin a phrase. That not only takes a little longer; it takes an urge to reflect and preserve. I admire people who can do it. More often than not, I let some shiny object distract me, because I've talked a big game about journals for myself but have never really put a decent effort toward one. I can manage a stream-of-consciousness quarter-page every so often, but as far as a trackable journal, naw.

I was reading something recently that mentioned the space a man has in his home has been shrinking for a while. I couldn't find it or any reference to it on line just now, but I don't think I imagined it. The gist of the article was that guys like or need space and that space often gets lost in all the nest-building women like or need to do. Somebody has tracked the layout of American homes over time and figured out that guys are basically relegated to the driveway these days, LOL.

From what I can tell, it's true. Taxidermy and gear are banished to the garage, dedicated workshops and Rod & Gun rooms are fairly rare, and---worse, perhaps-- the incidence of true "man caves" (as opposed to glorified family rumpus rooms) seems to be out of whack with all the mentions they get.

I'd be a very unhappy camper if I "couldn't" have my stuff where I want it, LOL. Do you think I should put something about this in my Matchdotcom profile? :wink:grin::-) Or would that just be pushing my luck?

If you want some advice from a grizzled veteran I'll give it to you. Make your wishes known now. Rather to push your luck now than down the road and find your stuff out on the lawn.
24.) Swamp Fox - 09/18/2014
LOL...That's always been my position....:wink

Hardy, har har.

OK, OK. I'm back and I took my medication and I got my loincloth on. LOL

Perhaps, if I'd not over looked DParker post where he actually replied to my quote of bringing in the Hardy Boys...I probably wouldn't have walked into this BY BEING RIDICULED. Because I would have been on the same page; and I WOULDN"T HAVE BEEN RIDICULED. Oh, but I already said that didn't I?

But that's OK.

It's all good.

Just remember, every dog has his day... (:-) humor:-))

31.) Wild Bob - 09/19/2014
I think the original issue of not being able to read replies to a certain thread have to do with Swampy's videos...the same thing is happening on his 'Pirate' thread. :re:
32.) DParker - 09/19/2014
See, this is what happens when you let a smartphoneaphobe use the internet.
33.) Wild Bob - 09/19/2014
OR may be it's mutiny on the bounty! :shh::shh:
34.) Swamp Fox - 09/19/2014

I reckon this means we'll have to haul all our good pirate jokes aboard this tub...

41.) Swamp Fox - 09/20/2014

I just noticed somebody gave the Pirate Thread five stars--and it wasn't me! LOL

Too bad we're short a few crew members tonight or we could play some on-line Battleship til things pick up around here...

http://www.battleshiponline.org/
42.) Swamp Fox - 09/20/2014
Well, that's weird...The stars have disappeared all of a sudden, and on my end I can't enter a rating at all...

Are we sure Luv2 has gone home for the day?

44.) Swamp Fox - 09/22/2014
I'm gonna keep that web address handy in case we need it...
45.) Wild Bob - 09/22/2014
You planning on launching your torpedo Swampy? LOL
46.) Swamp Fox - 09/22/2014
Well, torpedos in some cases...I was thinking indiscriminate depth charges for the rest of you...
47.) Wild Bob - 09/22/2014
I like that! IDCs for all of HC and let God sort them out.

Have you been ODing on Solider of Fortune magazines again???
