Since I've been gone from here for a while, I've filled a few safes full of guns. I got rid of any safe queens that I had that either weren't being used and/or didn't have any sentimental meaning to me. I bought several new pistols and finally realized that I was missing something..... nice wheel guns.
I found a really nice Ruger Security Six, this one happens to be made in 1976 and has a stamped frame with the words "Made in the 200th Year Of American Liberty". This gun is a blast to shoot and very accurate, it's a .357Mag. with a 6' barrel, I can use it to hunt with.
Once I got the fever, I started looking for the next best gun, the Ruger GP100. I found a very nice example, blued with a 4" barrel that is just immaculate. I put new rubber grips on it and actually carry it occasionally. Another beautiful gun that is just too fun to shoot.
I will eventually own a few S&W wheel guns, I've always wanted a 686 and for hunting, I love the 629 Stealth Hunter.
Anyone else have a affection for wheel guns?

I really like those GP100s. That's a big hunk of metal.

I love my S&W 629-2, 4" with Hoge grips. But 44 sp ammo is harder to find than 22lr.

My Charter Arms 38 light is really nice. The gun weighs as much as 5 38 spl's. It's so light you forget it's on your hip, or pocket.

I really like the Ruger GP 100, in 357. That's my next wheel gun

Doesn't the state of Ny make you plug the 6th hole with a dummy round so as to not exceed their ammo limit?

My tastes have changed a lot over the years so I'm a little less interested in revolvers than I used to be, even as trail guns, which was my primary use for them. I had a couple of Rugers, a .22 and a .41 and got tired of lugging them around when, in most places, I never had a need for them. Now I find myself back in places where they could be helpful, but still, that's a lot of weight.

If I were to invest in revolvers today, the emphasis would be on portability and handiness rather than hunting/plinking accuracy. A couple of 686's make a list I compiled a while back, as well as a couple of 60's, a 640, a 627 and one or two 586's. Generally I lean more toward .357 Magnum than I used to. Bigger than that I don't enjoy shooting much in a gun I would actually wear enough to make it worthwhile.

Swampy, get a 4" 357 ,shoot38spl,
It's about as middle of the road as you can get.

Everything on my list is "2" or 3-inch, but I understand about the extra velocity and shootability of the longer barrel. God knows there are plenty of revolvers I'd love to have. It's the 34 or 38 oh-zees that give me pause. Once up in that weight neighborhood, I would probably carry something else, unless bears were involved.

Believe me, I've lost a lot of sleep over this topic, LOL.

Come Jan. 1, 2016 y'all should bring your wheel guns to TX and open carry them, just because you can. That is, assuming we're not all washed away by then. I just saw that my local shooting range is under 6' of water.

Aaaaaaand....earlier today, campus carry passed as well. That one was a bit of a surprise, as it looked like the legislative session clock would run out on it for sure.

Oh yea, I love revolvers. I've always wanted a nice .357 Dan Wesson with the 8" barrel...may be one day soon!

Currently, I'm thinking my next handgun purchase may be a Taurus Raging Bull.
