1.) Swamp Fox - 09/27/2015
Ladies and gentlemen, use this thread to report your kills by providing picture proof. You can post pictures or tell the stories in other threads if you'd like, but to have your deer count for the contest the picture(s) must appear in this thread. It will make it much easier for everyone to follow the contest.

If you post multiple pictures over time, make sure it is clear to Bluecat (Grand Pooobah for Contest Scoring this year) how many deer are involved to be counted, and provide the preliminary scores.

Pictures should include you, your weapon, and your deer. The picture does not need to be time-stamped, but please tell us the date of your hunt. Pictures should be posted within 10 days of the kill.

If you can't get yourself in the picture for whatever reason, we won't cut off your left nut, but you should include your weapon. Remember, this year the contest is split into two divisions: Vertical Bow or Any Other Legal Weapon.

Make your pics as good as possible, and do try to get in there with your gear, as it makes the pictures much more interesting, if nothing else.

For bucks, tell us the total number of contest-scorable points and the score you come up with. Bluecat will make the score official after reviewing the picture or working out any discrepancies.

Enjoy the pics and the stories, and may the best team at least put in a good showing! :wink
2.) bluecat - 09/28/2015

Shot her Saturday night. She was milling around out in front of me in the soybeans. I knew I would likely get a shot as she was feeding my way. She just kept coming and coming straight towards me. Finally when she turned she was a few yards from my tree. She didn't go far.
3.) Swamp Fox - 09/28/2015
Congrats!

Now, I have some questions about the picture...LOL
4.) bluecat - 09/28/2015
Go for it. I will say that with a cell phone my chance of getting in the picture is pretty remote. How do people handle that without selfie sticks? I do have a timer option but no way to position the camera.
5.) bluecat - 09/28/2015
I also was going to do a review on the winch I ordered that attaches to the tree. Remember that one? Well, I found a tree, first tree chain wouldn't go around all the way, and positioned the unit without a problem. When I was winching her up, it started binding really bad. Apparently she was at an angle and the cable wasn't positioned on the pully correctly and then wedged down between pully and bracket. :bang: Part of that was my fault as I never thought to look. I'll have to try and get that cable out now. It left me high and dry in the dark though. Not fair to bash it yet.
6.) billy b - 09/28/2015
Nice going bluecat, but lisa's is bigger than yours:wink
7.) Wild Bob - 09/28/2015
Congrats Bluecat! :tu:
8.) luv2bowhunt - 09/28/2015
Congrats on the deer bluecat!
9.) Swamp Fox - 09/28/2015
For timer pics, I've been using a small tripod (collapses down to maybe 10 inches long) or Gorilla Pods...They have a newish model to handle smartphones, though I've never used it. I've only used the traditional models that screw into a digital camera's mount hole. If you use Gorilla Pods, I'd suggest getting some of the Nite Ize rubber cable twist ties to shore up the arrangement, especially the short and more portable version of the Gorilla Pod. They would probably be helpful with this smartphone version as well.

10.) Albertabowhunter - 09/28/2015
I just use a small tree and wedge it between the trunk and a branch... not every tree will work. then just use the timer... worked well for me a few times.

OK, How does one upload pictures on here??? always says file too large.
13.) Wild Bob - 09/28/2015
I have to use Photobucket to put pics on here.
14.) Deerslayer88 - 10/03/2015
Well here are some points for team 5. SHot her a 5:30 8 yards away ran 10 yards and piled up. No great story just easy harvest.
15.) Deerslayer88 - 10/03/2015
Also perfect eating size just what i wanted!
16.) Swamp Fox - 10/03/2015
Congrats on your doe!
17.) Swamp Fox - 10/03/2015
ABH, post pics of your 2015 whitetails on here---I have the best luck downloading from Photobucket; pics direct from my computer seem to load only as thumbnails or not at all---and any other pics should go in the Small Game/Other picture thread if you want them considered.
18.) billy b - 10/03/2015
Good job partner.
19.) Triton Rich - 10/03/2015

23.) Deerslayer88 - 10/05/2015
Congrats!
24.) bluecat - 10/05/2015
Hunter, I'm going to assume you want to count your doe as it is worth 100 as opposed to your buck which would be worth 70.

All other hunters need to get their kill on this thread so it can be counted.
25.) bluecat - 10/08/2015
Here are the results so far.

26.) Swamp Fox - 10/08/2015

27.) Hunter - 10/11/2015
Culling out my doe kill. 7 point in the dirt. Gun kill. 180 yards.
More points for the good guys!

Another one for the Rough Riders, Team 2:

Rifle kill; .300 Win Mag @ 78 yards, on October 31, 2015. 6x6 mulie - 12 point for you guys in the east.

Very nice congrats!!!
49.) bluecat - 11/02/2015
50.) luv2bowhunt - 11/12/2015
Well, let's see. 50 pts for the kill and 14 pts that are over 1" long, plus the PA difficulty bonus, and the AARP multiplier factor. I'm thinking it's worth 500-600 pts.
">
51.) Swamp Fox - 11/12/2015
LOL...

I'm sure that's the way the Official Scorekeeper will see it, too. :-)

Plus if he gives you any deductions for anything, you can claim an Indignation Offset by cashing in your Legend of Bowcountry Credits for getting that beast in the Miata after hauling him off the mountain.

Just an awesome buck. I'm still shaking my head here, LOL. Congrats. :-) :tu:
52.) Wild Bob - 11/12/2015
Yea, we need an update on here...what are those slackers up to??? :-)

54.) DropzOfWild - 11/29/2015
I would like to confirm BETTER LATE THAN NEVER has officially has been put on board with my beautiful chocolate 12
unfortunately it took some time to recover him. the cord on my limb driver slid up the limb producing bad shots and I wasn't aware of it until it was too late. My bow was totally forgotten dropped and left out soon as i seen him. He circled around and I lost blood on him. continued my hunt til dark, it's very possible that I walked right by him on the way out after dark, found him walking to my stand 10 ft off the logging road.

55.) Swamp Fox - 11/29/2015
Very nice, Chris! Congrats! He's a beaut!

Do you have any full body pics? Was his hide dark? Around here, we like to say the dark-hided deer are "swamp deer." Swamp deer often have dark racks, but not always.

I think it's easier to "explain" why certain deer have dark horns than to 'splain why some number have dark coats, but then again, like, who nos all this stuff anyway? Here's an interesting thread on dark racks:

http://www.deerforums.org/index.php?/topic/9522-dark-colored-antler/

BTW: You're in the right place for reporting.
56.) DropzOfWild - 11/29/2015
I didn't take a full body pic, his back end was pretty rough, his body was dark and he looked different from other deer I've seen in the area. He's not been seen by neighbors until now of course. I can't wait to get him back! thanks for the compliments!

and the link :0)
57.) Wild Bob - 11/30/2015
Awesome! Congrats, on a very cool buck. :tu:

(Oh, I know someone that nos all this stuff...but I'm not mentioning any names...) :-)

Great buck!

I like the pic, too. The overcast gives it a nice touch. :tu:
67.) Deerminator - 12/04/2015
Only 5 bow kills, DANG
68.) luv2bowhunt - 12/04/2015
Just wondering why Wild Bob doesn't get a score for his mule deer.
69.) Swamp Fox - 12/04/2015
Because it's a whitetail contest?

Just spitballing here. :wink

I don't remember if we ever had mulies in the deer contest before, but this is the first year we branded it specifically as a Whitetail contest. Mulies and other game go in the Small Game/Other contest...which is a photo contest, rather than a kill contest.

No worries; I realized that it was slated as a Whitetail contest. I don't think it would be fair to lump the two subspecies together, especially since it wasn't set up like that from the start.

That being said...the whitetails are starting to really make a come-back in my area...so look out next year! :wink

Just a euro mount. Don't have much room left of the walls to do shoulder mounts. Unless we shoot a booner its gonna be hard to come up with wall space.
73.) Swamp Fox - 12/04/2015
Yeah, lack of wall space for big bucks is a problem we can all relate to...LOL...

You're killin' me here....

NOT THAT WE WERE ACTUALLY PLAYING YOUR LIL REINDEER GAMES, BUT I DO KNOW JON AND I BOTH POSTED HARVESTS. MIGHT BE THE POLITICS OF THE CONTEST THO, WE PROLLY REPORTED THEM IN THEIR OWN THREAD OR SOME DAMN THING.

TEAM 86 LIVES ON
78.) Swamp Fox - 12/17/2015
The Rules Committee and the Official Scorekeeper will have an emergency meeting as soon as our Office Assistants can get the calendars together...

If Jon posted a pic, I missed it. I know I saw him mention he got a buck with the muzzleloader.
79.) Albertabowhunter - 12/17/2015
Sorry guys, didn't get out to do much hunting this year... was laid up on my back for 2 weeks at the beginning of November. Was off work for all of November. So wasn't able to get out with the bow October or November. Sorry to my team for dropping the ball... Luckily I got my moose with the bow in September. And then was able to get 2 WT does with the rifle, which I donated to the food bank. And then popped a Mulie doe in the last week of November, thanks to my brothers help for pushing a group out towards me. At least I got to break in my new Sako Finn-lite 85 7mm. I did pass up on a few Mulie bucks in September, hoping they grow bigger for next year, and 2 September bucks that wouldn't have broken 130", so I passed on them. Also passed on a 5 WT bucks in November that I would have only taken had they been 150" or better, but no luck. Promise I will do better next year.
80.) BULLZ-i - 12/17/2015
NO WORRIES SWAMPY, IT'S ALL ABOUT MAKING LUV2 LOOK GOOD FOR A CHANGE
81.) Jon - 12/17/2015
I wasn't planning on posting any of my kills, I don't get much with the bow anymore since my vision has gone to shit. I have shot a buck with the ML and 2 does with the shotgun. Still have about 6 weeks of hunting left, might get a whack at one with the pistol and maybe the bow again too.
82.) luv2bowhunt - 12/17/2015
Team 86 has nothing to prove, we know we rule.
83.) Wild Bob - 12/17/2015

Don't sweat it - I typically stay away from this contest thingy because it seems like the few times I have signed up for it...it turns out jinxing my efforts. The best years I had have been when I'm not in any contests! LOL, go figure.:re: (Although signing up for a Whitetail only contest DOES seem to help my mule deer hunting - so may be it’s a good thing in the end.)

Good luck with your back issue...I know how crumby that can be. After two back surgeries (one in 2007 and another last winter) I'm just thankful to be outdoors doing my thing every chance I get.

Bullzi - Politics...on this site? You must be delusional or something. :-)

There's gotta be a movie scene I can grab a youtube clip from where a big fat kid, say, has his buddies at sleep-away camp or basic training pushing his butt over the wall on the obstacle course...

Meatballs? Stripes? Where have I seen that? I'm thinking John Candy or Chris Farley.

There could be a prize in it for anyone who provides that or some other type of worthy depiction (video clip, gif or pic ) of Luv2 getting by with a little help from his friends... :wink

The appropriate clip is the "Private Pyle on the obstacle course" scene from Full Metal Jacket. But like pretty much everything else from that movie it's not family-friendly...so this will have to do:

90.) Swamp Fox - 12/17/2015
Yeah, I was thinking of something a little less dark than FMJ...LOL
91.) bluecat - 12/17/2015
There's a classic scene in Dirty Dozen where one of the recruits was trying to climb a rope. Lee Marvin grabbed a machine gun and shot the rope out from under they recruit and he scampered up. I searched on youtube and it is there but it is an hour long clip. Do you remember that one?
92.) luv2bowhunt - 12/17/2015
93.) Swamp Fox - 12/17/2015
LOL, Luv2...

Vaguely remember that scene, BC...been a long time since I've seen that flick. But some of the scenes sneaking around in the mansion before the assault, and then during the attack are seared in my brain.

Let's try this picture thing again:

photo 20151231_172539_zpskj22arql.jpg

My apologies for the truck bed pic. I hate these kind of pictures but I didn't have a lot of options last night - by the time my daughter and I got her dressed and hung up we were already late for the party we were supposed to be at, and Momma wasn't having any of that... :tap:

Little doe, but meat in the freezer. I don't like late season does because field dressing a pregnant one is, um, unpleasant. No fear of that with this little one so I let her have it. 4:45 pm, 22 yds. dead broadside, she went ~60 and piled up. She was with a group of 8 that I've been seeing all season - pretty reliable group since the bucks stopped chasing 'em, they've been in the same field almost every night. The stand is right on a fence line "T" - field behind me, looking at timber to the left, and overgrown CRP on the right. I killed a 148 from this stand in Jan. of '11, and have seen hundreds of deer from it over the years - it's my go-to late season spot. And it seems like I'm gonna' need it again this year because I've been horrible from my other stands so far this season...

____________________

Last week of October I missed a Monster, perfectly quartered-away from me at 28 yds. Big, big, BIG deer. No excuses, no equipment issues, didn't hit a stick, I just missed him. Right over his back clean as a whistle. :bang:

Second week of Nov., walking out about 10:00 in the morning, and run onto a really nice 9. He's walking perpendicular to me and he's going to cut my path at 25 yds., so I hunker down and wait. He gets there, I release, and..... this time I did hit a stick. :bang::bang: Or rather a shoot from a thorn bush, sticking up right in the wrong spot. Shaved his belly for him, but no damage. I've seen him twice (out of range) since.

And that would be enough for a pretty disappointing season, right? But wait!!

This one's the worst of the bunch, because I'm pretty sure this deer is dead and we just couldn't find him. :td: New farm/lease, brand new stand I had literally just put up, and a doe brings a beautiful 10 right past me where she was supposed to. 13 yds. I shoot, hit him high for some (inexcusable) reason, and only had about 8" of penetration. Arrow falls out unbroken when he hops a fence at 50 yds. We finally found blood at ~150 yds. and were on it a while until it petered out. Looked 3 days for him and no joy. :(

So yeah, this season blows. I've got 'till the 17th, and I'll hunt until the end, but I'm not gonna' be too sad when this one's behind me. Pretty much afraid to hit the release at this point...

Congratulations!

OK, screw it......add these kills to the baddest team in the land before anyone knows what hit em.
None of which are bow kills, the buck is a muzzleloader kill and the 2 does are shotgun. I have no idea how they score since they aren't bow kills.
Buck is a 6pt, no eye guards.

I'll post up the scores a little later. Congrats Jon.
112.) luv2bowhunt - 01/04/2016
Congrats Jon!!

Did you kill those deer on your own land?

Congrats to XJ too, but the tough luck stories suck. Maybe the one you hit high was fine??? I've seen them survive high hits pretty well.
113.) Jon - 01/04/2016
Luv2, I've let everything walk on my land so far. I will probably take a mature doe before the end of the month and of course, a mature buck or one of the crazy racks if they show up during daylight hours.
114.) billy b - 01/04/2016
Here's the story. shot a spike yesterday afternoon, didn't think about taking a pic till he was laying on the floor at the processor's shop , maybe next year I can do better.about 9:30 last night. Crossbow kill in Sterling county Texas, he came in so I shot him, it was the last 15 minutes of the last day, maybe next year I'll do better.

I edited this post to emphasize that the SG/O photo contest is separate from the Any Other Legal Weapon whitetail contest. Sorry for any confusion earlier versions of this post might have caused:

Congrats, Jon!

We got Bullz-i's bow doe in there for Team 86 even though the pic was in the wrong thread.

The contests end Jan 15, boys, so get your licks in while you can, if you still can.

Vertical bow whitetail kills go in the vertical bow whitetail contest (here).

Everything else (other animals, other weapons) goes somewhere.

A whitetail killed by something other than vertical bow may go in the Any Other Legal Weapon category (here) or in the Photo (SG/O) contest (separate thread), or both.

The vertical bow whitetail contest is scored the way it's always been, as are whitetails killed with Any Other Legal Weapon.

The SG/O contest is a photo contest which will be won by the person with the most votes for his pictures, with some discretion by the judge(s). See the top of this thread for details:

http://forums.huntingcountry.com/forums/showthread.php?1825-Official-2015-SG-O-Photo-Contest-Picture-Thread&highlight=photo+contest

For purposes of the score sheet on this thread, Any Other Legal Weapon deer are listed here (on the thread you are reading now) with a "kill points" value displayed similarly to the vertical bow contest, and tallied in the same way, but they may or may not be in the photo contest, depending on whether they were entered there properly.

Regarding the photo contest (separate thread):

To win in the SG/0 contest, you need to submit pictures of your 2015 outdoor activities to the SG/O thread (linked above) and have other members vote to "Like" them, so if that's of interest to people, submit photos by 1/15 and/or gin up votes from forum members. There is no running tally of votes so far. We'll be counting those up when the contest closes.

Jon & Billy, congrats!
121.) Wild Bob - 01/04/2016
Just going back through here and discovered that I missed XJ's earlier post. Congrats on the doe! Sounds like its been a rough season, but don't sweat it...we all experience a crappy season at times.
122.) Swamp Fox - 01/04/2016
Bluecat-- Make some room in your in-box. :wink
123.) luv2bowhunt - 01/05/2016
Way to go billy! You getting that one mounted?:wink

The smaller they are the harder they are to hit.
124.) billy b - 01/05/2016
Thanks Luv2, you should try one of the small ones some time, a lot easier to drag out.
125.) crookedeye - 01/11/2016
who to say that was a small one.. that deer was so old his antlers started to underdevelope..billy was he showing characteristic of a mature buck? ican see signs in him that he was a fighter..
126.) billy b - 01/11/2016
He was a 2 year old long spike, never would have been any good as far as headgear is concerned but he will eat good.
127.) luv2bowhunt - 01/11/2016
Too bad it doesn't count billy. You have to have a picture of the deer and yourself.

Thanks for playing anyway.
128.) crookedeye - 01/11/2016
Plus billy, this automaticly gets you into this year spring turkey contest! how exciting is that??lol

by the way how did you like shooting the crossbow?

I stayed out of the pic so you would have a chance to win this year:wink:tu:
130.) Swamp Fox - 01/27/2016
This looks like the final standings for our whitetail contests. I should have posted them much sooner.

Hope everybody enjoyed it. If you missed getting into the contest this year, be here early for 2016.

We will start shipping the imaginary gifts by the end of the week.
132.) Swamp Fox - 01/27/2016
:-)

Thanks for doing the scorekeeping, BC!

Nice spreadsheet, too...:tu:

BTW, if anyone's wondering, "Be here early" for the contest means July. That's when we do most of the sign-ups, so we can catch the earliest seasons, and aren't still messing around in September.

Mark your calendars. :tu:
133.) Wild Bob - 01/27/2016
What!?!?!

You're not even providing a grand tally for a combined per team standing???

Making us do a little work ourselves eh? Shesh... I want my money back! :wink (You knew someone would have to bitch!) :-)
134.) Swamp Fox - 01/27/2016
Scroll down, Wild Bob!

I think you'll find what you're looking for.

If not, I'm not grasping the issue.
135.) Swamp Fox - 01/27/2016
Oh...You probably mean combined Bow + AOLW...

Yup, you're on your own. Break out the abacus...
136.) luv2bowhunt - 01/28/2016
Dentists on Safari tied our all-time record low.

When Swamp Fox and cRoOKeDeyE get together, you can throw out the record book.
