Thought I'd get a pic thread going for upgraded and/or refinished rifle/shotgun stocks, and maybe spark a little yacking about the subject. The following have all been seen before, but on another forum that no longer exists. So here they are again. (And yes, I know these are all sitting on the vise backwards. They show better that way.)

My WalMart Savage 111 in .30-06 that originally came home with a detachable box magazine and tupperware stock...

...converted to a blind magazine and now sporting a Boyd's Featherweight Thumbhole in "nutmeg" laminate w/Simms recoil pad. Right side.

Left side.

My son's Ruger 10/22, which also began with a black polymer sock, now with a shortened bull barrel and Magnum Research "Barracuda" thumbhole in blue. Right side.

Left side.

And of course, the Mosin-Nagant 91/30 before refinishing..

...in the middle of the process, stripped down to the bare wood...

...and finally, refinished with MinWax "Red Oak" stain and 3 coats of MinWax Helmsman marine urethane.

Let's see yours!

Oh...and don't be eye-ballin' my 525-rd bricks of .22 LR, Deerminator! :p

Found this gun in a closet in my parent's house. It is a Marlin A-1 from 1946. It was in rough shape. I reblued the barrel and stripped the stock, sanded lightly and then used Tru-Oil followed by fine steel wool.

I thought I took a 'before' pic but can't find it right now.

Nice. The grain really pops now.

Yeah, you too.

I really enjoy bringing those things back to life.

I almost said I enjoy bringing old wood back to life but then I would have left myself wide open.

All ready am.

Sweet collection. Been hesitant about going plinking due to the ammo shortage and price gouging.

I'll see if I can get some picks of the long hardwhare.

The Boyd's thumbholes are very nice, although the only one I own is on a factory Knight ML .50 cal. (salt and pepper). I wish I had a refinished Marlin 336C in .30-30 to show, because it was the first rifle I bought with my own money when I was a whippersnapper, and it killed a whole bunch of deer. Soon after I had it refinished in a rich oil-rubbed flat and put a fiber optic bead on the front, some bastard stole it while I was away taking care of my dad, who was dying of cancer.

I do have a Browning BLR .22 LR that I had refiniished and matte blued, and it's gorgeous...The wood is what I'd call a very dark blonde or a not-too-light brunette...:wink....I'll work on getting a pic sometime soon, LOL.

I only have some .22 & .177 to play with . I made the top stock out of a length of mahogany I had recovered from an old fire mantle .

Way cool air guns :tu:
