1.) luv2bowhunt - 11/21/2013
Just got the results of my MRI and was wondering what I can expect in surgery and rehab.

Pretty bummed out, I was hoping for better news.:td: All because of a moment of carelessness. Make sure you take your time climbing up and down those treesteps.
2.) bluecat - 11/21/2013
Take us through the whole thing. Don't leave anything out.
3.) bluecat - 11/21/2013
This is an archery forum so any high-falutin technology terms will have to be run through a translator.
4.) bluecat - 11/21/2013
I was once torn if I should join the ACLU? Does that count?
5.) Ventilator - 11/21/2013
Bluecat hurt my feelings once. :(

But , i wish you a speedy recovery! there are always deer that need killin!
6.) bluecat - 11/21/2013
All because of a moment of carelessness.
It happens. Wait till the parents find out.
7.) Swamp Fox - 11/21/2013
Sorry to hear it turned out to be that bad.

But if Adrian Peterson can make a comeback, so can you. :wink

This is a good article:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1451061-adrian-petersons-acl-tear-a-closer-look-at-his-injury-and-incredible-recovery

I also looked at Wikipedia and their write-up is really informative re. surgery and (less-so) rehab.

I didn't go look at WebMD, but that's also a good site.
8.) bluecat - 11/21/2013
Bluecat hurt my feelings once.
That's a slow painful recovery for sure.
9.) DParker - 11/21/2013
The closest I've come is a torn meniscus in my left knee. But the meniscus is cartilage, not a ligament...so I'm sure the approach to repair as well as the recovery are quite different. That said, all I can offer is that in my case the resection was a routine outpatient procedure, and I was back on my feet (gingerly and with some pain for a while) after just a few days of sitting on my backside with a gizmo that circulated cooling fluid around the knee to keep the swelling down. That was probably 12 years (or more) ago and I really don't notice it today, unless I put a lot of strain on it.

Ultimately that's probably not of much value to you, but it's all I've got. Sorry.
10.) bluecat - 11/21/2013
There is nothing that an expensive surgery can't prolong.
11.) luv2bowhunt - 11/21/2013
That's much more help than bluecat has been, but in fairness, he set the bar very low for the rest of you.

13.) bluecat - 11/21/2013
I'm just waiting for you to tell us what exactly you have before I can prescribe treatments.

Is it a complete tear or a partial?

Really am sorry to hear this.
14.) crookedeye - 11/21/2013
luv2 I have a crossbow you can use..

brother law tore his mcl and acl ..second acl.
.mcl and acl was a golfing accident..the second time he just let it go.. any side to side movement he's screwed ..seems to be doing are right though..its a long recovery.

good luck they need you back on the heavy highway squad..
15.) Swamp Fox - 11/21/2013
...good luck they need you back on the heavy highway squad..
Now when he leans on his shovel, at least he has a legitimate excuse...But those Pa. potholes aren't gonna get any smaller, LOL.

OK, did some reading and looked at the diagrams. That just made my knee hurt worse. I'm doubting I'm going to bounce back like Adrian, although we're real similar in athletic ability.:-)
17.) crookedeye - 11/21/2013
lol..
18.) luv2bowhunt - 11/21/2013
But in fairness to me, when those big tough NFL guys tear their ACL, a golf cart comes out and whisks them off the field, waving to the crowd, with a grimace on their face.

What does luv2 do? He gets up off the ground, tears his treestand down, walks up the ridge and hangs his stand in a different spot.

....of course coming down the mountain after that stunt, I had tears in my eyes from the pain. That was just stupid.:bang:
19.) Wild Bob - 11/21/2013
Sorry to hear this bad news, God speed with your recovery.

(So does this mean your going to see a psychologist too?? :wink)
20.) Swamp Fox - 11/21/2013
It's not stupid. It's obsession. :wink

I qave up on finishing a stand last week after just six steps...I've never run into a tree THAT tough..It was stopping my 18V drill cold. I don't know if it was frozen solid or just filled with concrete...Plus it leaned the wrong way just enough to make things difficult...But obviously I needed more Wheaties...

I decided to wuss out and let the trail cam pics this week tell me if I should continue.

I commend your dedication. Your second set must have had some good potential. :-)
21.) luv2bowhunt - 11/21/2013
Second set was trails leading to a good bedding area. Couldn't get it as high as I wanted with the pain.

This season wasn't a total bust, learned some new areas and got more familiar with an old area. At that location, the light bulbs went off as I hunted it this year. Think I understand how the deer are using the terrain there.

I'll verify after rehab.:wink
22.) Triton Rich - 11/21/2013
Sorry to hear the bad news Luv2. The way you described the incident, I was pretty certain you tore the ACL. I was hoping I was wrong! I guess it could always be worse, keep your head up. Be a patient patient and listen to the Docs. They'll get you fixed up. Good luck my friend!
23.) crookedeye - 11/21/2013
lets hope luv2 has Obamacare...
24.) DParker - 11/21/2013
What does luv2 do? He gets up off the ground, tears his treestand down, walks up the ridge and hangs his stand in a different spot.
Well, there's your problem. You forgot to rub some dirt on it. Didn't you learn anything from your little league coach?
25.) crookedeye - 11/21/2013
rememeber luv 2 ..this didn't happen at work....are did it???
26.) crookedeye - 11/21/2013
" come to think of it..it was kinda sore after jumping off the asphalt truck.."
27.) Go Bucks - 11/21/2013
yes. got it blown out in a soccer game about 15 years ago. I locked shins with a guy who had tree trunks for calves. stupid move, but it was a tournament and if I won the ball I had a straight run at the goal. Also, I have carried at least 4 kids off the field with the same injury.

clean pop. it didn't hurt much, just a bit of swelling and low throbbing pain. many times the pain comes from collateral damage to other parts of the knee. The tell-tale sign is hyper extension and a weird quick unstableness when just walking around. I let it go for about a year in complete denial before heading to the ortho who I knew for a long time since I coached his kid. He was also a team doctor for the Colts, Butler University, and Indiana University. He pretty much told me it was screwed and it didn't matter when he operated, except for the possibility of more damage.

The operation is very rote and these guys do it in their sleep. Just make sure you go to someone who does knees only, not a generalist who does hips, shoulders, etc. Its all about the rehab and keeping the swelling out of it. He took a piece of the platella in the same knee as the donor tissue and stapled it in place. The TSA sees it in every airport. It was cut on a Monday, woke up later with my knee in some movement gizmo, and went home Tuesday. Getting the quad muscles to remember how to move the leg took an hour on Thursday. Started walking around a bit on Friday, but only in straight lines. A month later I stepped onto a racquetball court and played off one leg. 4 months later I was snowboarding in Colorado, although not real aggressively and more concerned about the happy hour specials.

The knee heals faster than the psychological aspect of trusting the leg again. That took at least a year.
28.) crookedeye - 11/21/2013
speaking of soccer mexico got into the big dance..
29.) Go Bucks - 11/21/2013
yea... about time they found a coach, an identity, and the goal.

Thanks Barry, that makes me feel better.........kind of.:wink
32.) Go Bucks - 11/22/2013
It is what it is and more of an aggravation and certainly not a show stopper. At least 5 of my friends have been through it. If your knee is really jacked up like the meniscus, maybe go for a replacement. Those heal much faster than they seem like they should

Torn ACL huh, I've had 34 of them & it barely slowed me down for a few minutes. Just be thankful you still have a knee & smile:wink

You had knees? You were lucky!

36.) crookedeye - 11/22/2013
knee's!!.. I call them chicken legs..
37.) billy b - 11/22/2013
I call one of them gone:bang:
38.) luv2bowhunt - 11/22/2013
It could always be worse I know.

Don't worry I'll post all sorts of pics and stuff so you guys can live vicariously through my struggles. Are there any hot nurses in rehab?

I'm looking for that silver lining. (bluecat-insert hot nurse pic)
39.) bluecat - 11/22/2013

Sorry I'm late. My pager went off but I was helping some girl scouts.
40.) Swamp Fox - 11/22/2013
That'll work...:-)
41.) Wild Bob - 11/22/2013
Stop showing him pictures of nurses...You're going to give Luv2 high blood pressure now too!
42.) Swamp Fox - 11/22/2013
He already has high blood pressure. You've been reading his posts for years, haven't you?
43.) Wild Bob - 11/22/2013
Well yea, but I don't want to see the old bugger get close to maximum PSI.
44.) DParker - 11/22/2013
If the nurse doesn't do it for you maybe I can persuade my personal bodyguard detail to stand guard while you're being worked on....

45.) luv2bowhunt - 12/03/2013
OK, surgery is all set for Jan. 3. All we need now is a tendon from a dead person and we're all set.

So if any of you are willing to volunteer your carcass to a good cause, send me a PM. Just give me enough notice, I want to keep it fresh, no rigor mortis please.

Thanks.
46.) Wild Bob - 12/03/2013
How about a tendon from a dead deer??? I got one of those I can send you...it's even on ice, I'll just pop it into the little igloo cooler and get it heading your way.

WE CAN REBUILD YOU...MAKE YOU FASTER, STRONGER, BETTER LOOKING... (Well, may be not better looking, but you'll be able to run like hell with that new deer tendon!
47.) luv2bowhunt - 12/03/2013
Hey that just might work. If it's a female tendon, maybe it can double as an attractant.
48.) billy b - 12/03/2013
Gerry, I do have an old spare leg if you ever need it:wink
49.) Swamp Fox - 12/03/2013
As long as he uses your leg on the downhill side, he should be okay, Billy. :wink
50.) Go Bucks - 12/04/2013
Jan 3? That should be plenty of time for your health ins policy to get cancelled...
51.) Ohbuckhunter - 12/04/2013
Every other step you would be 6'4" down to 5'9" with Billy's spare.
52.) luv2bowhunt - 12/04/2013
Thanks for the offer billy, but it might be a tad too long.:wink They do have me in a stupid brace that goes from my ankle to my crotch already. Something about instability, bone movement, blah...blah...that's about the time I starting daydreaming and looking at the charts on the wall. I am the world's worst patient, with the attention span of a 2 yr old at the Disney store.

I'll be good as new in a year or two. Then I'm going on a hunting trip somewhere, but not to Ohbie's since he didn't respond to my PM.

That's OK, I wanted to hunt with someone nice anyway. I hear there's like some deer in Iowa or something.
53.) Swamp Fox - 12/04/2013

56.) Deerminator - 12/04/2013
You have a brace on your crotch:cf:

Hope you can get it off soon.

It's probably one of those slow healing things. Make sure you do the rehab, very important.
57.) Swamp Fox - 12/04/2013
You know where you're always welcome!
Don't let him fool you, Wild Bob. He's not going anywhere. You know those pics of him at the Outer Banks? ---Photo-shopped! It looks like he's driving a jeep on the beach, but if you look carefully you can tell it's his red Miata at the Walmart parking lot in Noodle Doosie...

If he crossed the Pa. state line to hunt somewhere else his head would explode...

:p
58.) luv2bowhunt - 12/04/2013
You'll be the butt of the joke, when I take a selfie of myself and a 140ish whitetail from the midwest.

I've heard if you drive far enough west.....eventually, Pennsylvania will end. I saw it in a magazine once I think.

But no one has ever made it that far because there's a town every 2 miles on every highway, and you're always getting stuck in behind a group of Amish kids in their buggy out cruisin' for butter-churnin' babes.
60.) Deerminator - 12/04/2013
....
61.) luv2bowhunt - 12/04/2013
Yeah, big story on the news here the other night, true story. Some Amish were out at a store and while they were inside someone drives by and shoots their horse.

They don't even realize it, hop in and make the horse take them home. They get home and notice blood coming from the horses mouth, he collapses and dies, 2 shots to the chest.

Them horses is tough. Can't imagine anyone local would shoot an Amish horse. Idiots.
