Old question. Kinda like the whisker biscuit one:-)

Winter time, generally heavier clothing to be considered.

Five 38spl 158gr lead flat nose, OR, 8, ( 7 in mag. NYS law. Not allowed to put in 10 anymore, and one in the pipe ). Jacketed and HP alternated in mag. (:cf: forgot how many grains )

It pretty much evens out in my head but thought I'd throw this ponderance out anyway.

Eight rounds?! Are you going to war with New Jersey?!! No one needs that much firepower unless they're in the military or going quail hunting with Dick Cheney.

Seriously...move to Texas (or any other free state) and carry as many rounds of whatever caliber you want.

OK, OK...a more practical and useful response....

.38 spcl is a revolver round. So what is it you're talking about loading into a magazine?
3.) DParker - 12/05/2013
Oops! Disregard my stupid question above (I missed the "380" in the thread title).

If it were otherwise close I'd say go for quantity. But .38 Spcl is sufficiently superior to .380 ACP that I think a 5 round wheel gun is the way to go. 6 rounds would be better, of course...but it sounds like you're looking for something very compact.
4.) Deerminator - 12/05/2013
Nope, was just wondering which one to take X'mass shopping today:-)

Went with the 380
5.) BULLZ-i - 12/05/2013
HOW ABOUT THE .380 (95 GRAINS) WITH AN EXTRA MAG IN YOUR POCKET GOING JINGA LINGA LING
6.) crookedeye - 12/05/2013
i believe james bond used the 380.. and we all no how many bad guys he killed with it..

. . .and keep your hands to yourself. . . .
8.) luv2bowhunt - 12/05/2013
Just to be different, I'm voting for .38 special ops. An oldie but a goodie.

....

:-)..
11.) Wild Bob - 12/05/2013
I'd go with the .38 personally. I don't mean to offend anyone...but out of those two choices; I subscribe to Robert Ruark's adage of "Use enough gun."
.380's are fun to shoot...but if I had to defend myself, I'd put my chips on the .38.

I'D AGREE TO THAT STATEMENT, BUT I WOULD ALSO CARRY A SPEED LOADER FULL AND WE ALL KNOW HOW FUN THAT COULD BE. USING A GOOD QUALITY DEFENSE AMMO IN THE .380 LIKE HORNADY CRITICAL LINE UP WOULD BE THE KEY TO CARRYING THE .380 ALONG WITH A 2ND MAG AT THE READY.

MORE IS BETTER RIGHT? WELL NOW WE'RE AT A CROSS ROADS WHERE IS IT KINETIC ENERGY AND PENETRATION OR IS IT A LITTLE LESS ENERGY AND PENETRATION OVER CAPACITY AND ASSAILANTS? LETS NOT FORGET ACCURACY, DISTANCE AND CONFIDENCE WITH THE PARTICULAR WEAPONS.

GLAD YOU MADE IT HOME SAFE DEERMATER
13.) Wild Bob - 12/05/2013
Come on John-Boy, just pass the whisker buscuits please!
14.) Deerminator - 12/06/2013
:-)

Ease of carry was the factor for choosing the 380. It tucks away better.
15.) BULLZ-i - 12/06/2013
RODGER THAT! AND HEY... IT'S BETTER TO HAVE SOMETHING THAN NOTHING AT ALL. USED TO LOVE MY P238 UNTIL I SWAPPED TO THE P938. SO COMFY TO CARRY YO DAMN NEAR FORGET YOU HAVE IT ON

How would you compare the two on handling characteristics...feel, controls, grip, trigger, recoil with "comparable" loads, etc.
17.) BULLZ-i - 01/15/2014
ALL THE SAME REALLY... AS A .380 IS JUST A 9MM SHORT (KURZ)
18.) Swamp Fox - 01/15/2014
You didn't feel one was snappier than the other? No differences in the triggers, etc. ? I haven't looked at the small details.
19.) BULLZ-i - 01/15/2014
THE ONLY PROBS I HAVE HEARD ON THE 938 IS THAT THE MAGAZINE SPRING IS A BIT LONG CAUSING MORE UPWARD PRESSURE ALMOST TRYING TO DBL FEED A ROUND. PERSONALLY, I HAVE SHOT MANY THRU THE 9, AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE AND HEAR LESS AND LESS REPORTS OF IT ALL THE TIME (DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE)

AWESOME LIL GUN, BOTH OF THEM BUT YOU KNOW THE 9MM HAS JUST A SMIDGE OF BETTER KE AND PENETRATION, BUT THEN AGAIN GOOD DEFENSIVE AMMO AND SHOT PLACEMENT IS THE KEY, RIGHT?
20.) Swamp Fox - 01/15/2014
:tu:
21.) BULLZ-i - 01/15/2014
OHHH AND FOR SOME DAMNED REASON, .380 AMMO IS SPENDY IN REGARDS
22.) Swamp Fox - 01/15/2014
It's that damn Ruger LCP...caused a run on it...LOL
23.) Deerminator - 01/15/2014
Like 22-24 bucks / 50 jacketed and about the same $ for box of 25 HP's.
38's are bout the same
