How about it man...how are you doing?

I walked through our living room last night, and my wife had some goofy movie on about this group of college girls that ran a 'Suicide Prevention Center" at their college. I watched enough of the movie to get the gist of the story. Made me think of you...should we send those girls over? Your not feeling on the downward side of up are ya???
2.) Swamp Fox - 01/14/2014
LOL....

Wild Bob strikes again! :p
3.) Deerminator - 01/14/2014
here's a tune for ya

4.) luv2bowhunt - 01/14/2014
Just got out of the doctors office. Please explain to me how a "10:00 AM" appointment gets you in to see the doctor at 11:15 AM.

Anyway, he said I'm doing better than most of his ACL patients. Supposed to start therapy next week. Already doing alot of that at home now.

Bad news is he said I can't walk in the mountains for 6 months.

WTH? He must not understand turkey season is in 3 months. I missed the end of archery, all of gun season and late muzzleloader season, all the winter deer scouting trips, I have no intention of missing Spring gobbler season.

No way Jose'.
5.) luv2bowhunt - 01/14/2014
Also, I'll give my opinion on screw in steps here. I don't think my accident happens if I was using a ladder section at this site.

Don't believe my foot would have slid off like that, and given me the excuse to just hop down, instead of climb down that last step.

My feet have never slipped on the ladder sections and they're not spaced too far apart. My tendancy with screw in's is to space them too far apart. Sometimes it's by accident and sometimes it's because I decide I 'need' to be up the extra foot or two I can steal by stretching the spacing a bit.

Ladder sections keep me from being stupid........well, more stupider than normal stupid.
6.) Swamp Fox - 01/14/2014
Not to argue, but it was a little icy that day, no? I don't like climbing any kind of steps or ladders when it's wet, forget about icy (hand-grabs more than foot-grip issues in my experience). But of course I do it.

Some ladder steps are grippier than others. I've been up some ladders that were slick as Nebraska Al's cheeks. Would hate to see them when they're wet.

You can always add no-skid tape to ladder steps, though. Not much you can do to improve screw-in steps, except buy them with teeth (old-school), aggressive knurling (hard to find), or in a long, fat size (impossible to find).
7.) luv2bowhunt - 01/14/2014
I put no skid tape on all my ladder sections. I even wimped out and bought a ladder stand (yuck), after season, to put on a piece of private land I can hunt.

I'll use that in bad weather and climp up like all the old lazy people do. Might even drive an ATV, hell, I'l drive my Jeep Wrangler right up to the damn thing and climb out the window directly onto the ladder.

With any luck I can shoot one and have him die right on the deer carrier, hopefully he'll ratchet strap himself on to it first before loosing consciousness.

HAhahahahhaha! Now you're seeing the way of the world grass hopper! (only kidding!) :-)

You'll be ready for turkeys...just keep pushing your walking and PT (realistically) as much as possible. When I had my disc surgery about five years ago my doctor gave me all the doom and gloom..."you won't recover until...blah, blah, blah and then after that you'll still struggle with blah,blah,blah..." The day after surgery I got up and started shuffling around the room. I made a promise to myself that every successive day I'd do a little more, go a little further. The doctor was amazed when I went back a week after surgery and told him that I was already walking about 30 yards down my driveway 2x a day. Two weeks later, I was walking a 1/4 mile every day. A month later I was walking a mile a day and I went back to work a month earlier than my doctor predicted I would.

You can do this. I know you're stubborn enough to...just apply your attitude to recovery and you'll be chasing turkeys this spring!
10.) luv2bowhunt - 01/14/2014
My goal wasn't actually turkey season at the end of April, but deer scouting in March.

I'm still shooting for the ability to deer scout mid-March with this stupid brace on. Not much choice on that part of it.

I hate this thing, it's like a torture device. Can't even imagine what it's like to be permanently disabled. My heart goes out to those folks for sure.
11.) Swamp Fox - 01/14/2014
What you need is a mini-you. You can stroke a cat from the comfort of your Miata and enjoy a little NPR while the little guy scrambles over rocky trails looking for saddles, benches and American chestnut trees...
12.) luv2bowhunt - 01/14/2014
Yeah, like this.

16.) Hunter - 01/14/2014
What? No video from the surgery???

Keep pushin' forward Luv2! You'll be high-steppin again in no time. :tu:

First time at a doctor's office?
18.) Deerminator - 01/14/2014
Luv,,,,,, You know what I've been through last year. If the Doc said, after chemo probably 4 months before you'll get any strength back. I made it 2. If they said 6 to grow hair, I'm make'n it 3 months. Did to:tu: Got to use cream rinse so it won't tangle up.

Do the therapy, continue the physical therapy, work out as much as you can. Walking up hills was out of the question for me in mid Oct.
Pulling the bow back, very difficult. Dropped the bow down to 40 from 65lbs. I could draw and let'er fly but still couldn't hold good enough for hunting.
Physical things that were difficult to do then, are a piece of cake now. I work out 4-5 times a week.
Just like shooting an arrow, it's the follow through that makes all the difference.

On another note;
I'm going to use my situation to get a new bow. A compleat new set up,,,,,, the works.
Ya might be able to pitch it and see if wifey swings at it.
Use your situation to the best advantage. Perhaps you could talk work into. Working from home or
a handicap parking pass.
19.) Wild Bob - 01/14/2014
DP - We'll send those gals over ASAP. Most of them in the movie were a little nerdy...but a couple showed potential to be wild sleepers. LOL

Don't let him fool you, Billy. As soon as that brace comes off, he'll be back to making fun of ugly babies and kicking homeless guys off their steam grates.

Yea I know it, it was just a feeling, but it turned out to be gas:ek:
25.) luv2bowhunt - 01/15/2014
Deerminator is my hero. Mr. Non-compliant all the way to the end.:tu:

I have no intention of missing workouts or staying out of the mountain for 6 months.

billy, I've always been a fan of yours. Except when you were wearing sneakers on bowhunts.....and your poor choice in camo clothing for a couple of your photo shoots.

Look how long it took for me and JC to groom you into the internet user you are today.:tu:
26.) Deerminator - 01/15/2014

Ok Mr smartie, have you ever tried to put a boot of any kind on over a prostetic leg & foot, well if you haven't.......it won't go. Thanks for your criticism, as uneducated as it was, I'll try to hide my fake foot if I ever kill another deer, at my age it prolly won't happen:tap::grin:

Yeah I know about the leg. I didn't years ago when I joked you about the sneakers, was just referring to our old conversations, that and the way I'd kid you about camo.

Not meaning to disrespect you at all. I hope you're joking for heaven's sake.

You're not even in my league of not seeing any deer, so nice try on that.:wink

This Orthopedic place is one of the busiest places I've ever seen. 12 check in desks, 3 big waiting rooms, can't even imagine the number of people they're running through the place in a day. And yes, they do think their time is more valuable than yours for sure.
32.) Swamp Fox - 01/15/2014
I remember when my knees first went out, I went to a sports medicine place and got a first-appointment-slot-of-the-day appointment----8 AM, say. I figured no way was that going to get screwed up. I mean, my life is by appointment, so I know how it works, right?

Well I finally got to see the doc at something like 10. No lie.

The excuse was he was on rounds at the hospital that morning.

I think I saw him once. The other several visits the only person I saw was the PA.
33.) luv2bowhunt - 01/15/2014
I like how you wait for 2 hours to see the surgeon, he comes in and gives you 120 seconds and then...he gone.

Then you're walking out saying, did he say take this every 2 hours or 12 hours.......how many days until I can drive? It happened so fast I can't remember any details.

(It's there on a tee, just waiting for someone to drive it down the fairway):-)
34.) Swamp Fox - 01/15/2014
LOL...
35.) Swamp Fox - 01/15/2014
I'm not sure what excuse they could use up there near Gettysburg for you, other than maybe a backlog from 1863 that was causing the doc to run late, but here they didn't even have the courtesy to try to snow me that the Duke basketball team's orthopedic needs were more important than mine...

Nope...He just "ran late on rounds"....
36.) BULLZ-i - 01/15/2014
I ASK THEM WHY THE HELL DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOU, WHY DONT YOU CALL ME WHEN YOUR READY AND QUIT WASTING MY TIME.

THAT DIDNT WORK EITHER... SO FAR
37.) Swamp Fox - 01/15/2014
Show them your guns...

I mean roll up your sleeves....

And squint real hard at them.
38.) Wild Bob - 01/15/2014

Billy, I think you had him on the ropes. Move in for the Luv2 KILL!:hb:
43.) luv2bowhunt - 01/16/2014
billy b is a touchy subject for me. Something about Battle Mountain and pigs and junk like that.

Tried to ride the excercise bike last night............nah. Not ready for that yet, that hurt like a mother.
44.) billy b - 01/16/2014
Buck up weenie, pretend you don't have a knee & it won't hurt.
45.) Jon - 01/16/2014
I take everything the doctors tell me as a guideline, your body will tell you what you can and cannot do.
Even though I hate you Luv2, I do feel badly that you are sitting on the couch getting fat daydreaming about getting your picture taken in slim jeans leaning against a tree. No-one likes that!

You'll be able to go turkey hunting, guarantee it!
46.) luv2bowhunt - 01/16/2014
Finally he admits it. He liked my picture.:tu: I will try and take another pic of me with my brace on, just for you.

I will need you to push me around in a wheelchair at the Eastern Sports Show, so don't stand me up again. I want to see everything, it will take all day. I'll buy you a hotdog for your trouble.
47.) Jon - 01/16/2014
Shit, I'll do almost anything for a hotdog.......
48.) DParker - 01/16/2014
Which reminds me of one of my major gripes about the D/FW Metroplex...and as far as I've been able to tell, Texas in general. Namely, the dearth of places where you can get a decent hot dog when you're out-and-about. They exist, if you really search for them, but they're as rare as hens' teeth. There used to be one up the road from my office (great Chicago-style dogs and what not), but they closed a couple of years ago. Even the few Der Weinerschnitzel's we had have disappeared. A few months ago a nice older German couple ordered a tiny drive-thru-only joint selling standard Vienna dogs, braatwurst and several other related goodies...but the gastronomically-ignorant dopes in my town wouldn't support the place, and they too went the way of the Dodo bird.

At least I know of a couple places where I can get a decent Cheesesteak, so there's that.
49.) Jon - 01/16/2014
The cheesesteak gets it's name from Philadelphia but lord knows, the cheesesteaks that come out of Philly are the worst I've ever had. They use cheese wiz and the rolls suck.
I have had a good dog in Chicago although the best hotdog I've had was at Fenway park.
Buffalo wings aren't any better in Buffalo than they are in DC but I still don't understand how they get the wings off those things.
50.) DParker - 01/16/2014
The cheesesteak gets it's name from Philadelphia but lord knows, the cheesesteaks that come out of Philly are the worst I've ever had. They use cheese wiz and the rolls suck.
It's kinda' like pizza. The Italians invented it, but while real Italian pizzas are OK for what they are, they pale in comparison with what it evolved into in the U.S.
Buffalo wings aren't any better in Buffalo than they are in DC but I still don't understand how they get the wings off those things.
I don't know about that, but I know where boneless chicken comes from....

51.) Deerminator - 01/16/2014
The question;

Should a hot dog be skinned or unskinned; beef, pork or mistery meat?
52.) luv2bowhunt - 01/16/2014
All hotdogs are 'meat' in a mysterious sense anyway.
53.) Swamp Fox - 01/16/2014
Beefmaster are the best dogs I've found without going to a ball game. I've even tried a few of the "premium" dogs that I can dig up around here and I still like Beefmaster better. Most other hotdogs are horrible, based on my recent semi-scientific test.

I'll have something to say on the Ginger-or-MaryAnn issue shortly (I hope), but right now God wants me to be on the phone with the ironically-named Microsoft "Customer Support." Why else would I spend hours and hours talking/on hold with these morons if it wasn't His grand design?
54.) Deerminator - 01/16/2014
Ever hear of Hoffman Snappy Grillers? Dogs or conies.

Hieds mustard?

Not around here.. Maybe I'll trade you for some eastern NC BBQ...If you'd like to try tomato-based or mustard-based instead (instead of vinegar-based), I'll have to get in the truck and do a little road trip...Which might be good for me right now, LOL.... Just a couple of hours in any direction from me and you have all the best BBQ recipes covered :wink....
57.) billy b - 01/16/2014

58.) Deerminator - 01/16/2014
MMMMMMM------BARB-A-QUE
59.) luv2bowhunt - 01/17/2014
If I have time to eat a hotdog, I've got time to eat a smoked sausage, so I usually skip the dogs. Grilled smoked sausage trumps a dog anyday.

This thread is supposed to be about me and more horrific recovery, let's try to stay focused here people.:wink:grin:

No difference

Now get out there on the slops and ski your azz off.
If Von can do it so can you.
62.) billy b - 01/17/2014
He ain't no Von, she's a lot tuffer than him thats for sure, but he does sound feminine, it might just be a Pennsylvania thing:poke:
63.) Swamp Fox - 01/17/2014
I'm imagining Luv2 at the Eastern Sports show, wheelchair-bound and leg extended, being pushed around by a neighborhood kid he had to bribe with $20, causing a general nuisance of himself in the crowd (especially down the aisles where the crowds are really stacked up in front of the better-looking booth babes, and also in the men's room) for which he is paid back, though not intentionally, by big fat Italian guys from Philadelphia and New York who keep bumping into his leg and wrenching his knee back and forth while they compare notes on who shot the biggest forkhorn last year, why the toilets aren't working at their hunting camps, and how they could have come up with the idea for that bowhook they were all just gawking at back there at the Pittsburgh Metalworks booth.
64.) bluecat - 01/17/2014
Get your cast signed by the Drury boys and post pics.
65.) luv2bowhunt - 01/17/2014
Lindsey Vonn didn't get ACL reconstruction and tried to ski anyway. I don't even see how that could be possible, knowing how the ligament works and what it does.

I see she now decided to get it done. She's gonna need some moral support from someone going through the same stuggles as her, I'm going to get in touch and see if we can hang together.
