...but I guarantee that you'll know when it's over. I was chatting with my company's VP, who is the same age as me, in the break room while getting coffee this morning. He was asking me how my foot was because I've been limping around with an attack of gout in the big toe on my right foot (Monday night I think it produced the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life...and I've actually had a leg nearly torn off below the knee). He said that his doctor has been giving him Prednisone (a corticosteroid) for some joint issues he's been having in his neck and arms. Then we started listing all of the other old man aches and pains we're beginning to experience on at least a semi-regular basis. At that point he got this really thoughtful look on his face and made the comment that the title of this thread comes from: "You know, I can't say that I actually recognized my prime when I was in it". And I answered with the follow up, "But you sure as hell know that you're past it, don't you?"

That's it. Just thought I'd share a cheerful morning thought with everyone!

(What I want to know is...when do I get the 2nd childhood with the convertible Corvette and all that?)
2.) Jon - 01/22/2014
It's funny what you consider your prime and how good you felt while in it. Looking back, when I was feeling good, I didn't really appreciate it! Now that the aches and pains are affecting me, I certainly appreciate looking back to those times when I had few.

Must suck to be old, I'm doing great.:re:

Didn't mention it earlier, but now I found out I've got Shingles. That's not any fun either, try not to have it if you can.
4.) DParker - 01/22/2014
I just posted this to give Billy an excuse to come in and tell us all to shut up.

Shingles suck! my sister came down with them 2 weeks ago...on her eyes. really bad deal.
I never believed my father when he said "wait till you hit 50 everything starts to fall apart"...dang he was right.
6.) Jon - 01/22/2014
I had shingles when I was 14yrs old, the docs said kids aren't supposed to get them but I sure did. It was brutal as a teenager, I don't want to imagine how bad they are as an adult.

I dont know if you have tried any of this but Ill go ahead and give my 2 cents. IM sure this has been described, but Gout is due to uric acid build up which is an inflammatory process. Some natural remidies to try would be to drink large amounts of black cherry juice and eat a low inflammatory diet. Now don't get all huffy puffy but that means you would need to eliminate or decrease your intake of red meats, sugars, flour, wheat, and especially beer (:bang:). Like i said dont get pissed just a suggestion lol. BUt if ya followed that diet it most likely wont eliminate your gout but it will make it more managable.

Not sure of the name, but an anti-viral capsule every 8 hours. I'm lucky, rash is a small area, but I'm finding the pain in the nerves increases as this progresses.

At least I don't even notice the knee anymore.

Thanks. This isn't my first flare-up (unfortunately), and I've already talked to my Dr. and researched it, so I'm painfully aware of the dietary sacrifices necessary to attempt to control it.

But I'm still pissed anyway. :wink

I just ignored "eliminate" and focused on "decrease"...not that it's all that much better.
