Well Last Friday I decided to fall & break my left femur which is the same side that is cut off at the knee. I Will have surgery at Baylor Hosp. in Dallas tomorrow to repair the femur & have a "hinge knee" installed. If everything goes as planned I will regain some movement in my knee which has been seized for the last 11 years when I lost my leg. The doctor preforming the surgery is the same one who repaired me up when I had the original accident. We could not put a knee in then because of the gangrene infection that went up the Bone to my hip, but now the infection is gone & my hopes are to come out of this with a lot better quality of life so.........I would appreciate prayers from those of you who believe in such(I do) & well wishes for a good recovery from you who don't. Here's a pic of the break & frozen knee. Thanks. After I heal up I plan to challenge Luv2 to a 100 yard dash:wink

2.) bluecat - 02/20/2014
Good luck Billy! Keep us posted.
3.) DParker - 02/20/2014
Wow! I had no idea that your leg was in that condition, Billy. I came incredibly close to that myself over 20 years ago, so I can at least sort of sympathize. The good new is that this sort of ortho surgery has become pretty routine, and the technology has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few decades. You'll be doin' great in no time.
4.) Floyd - 02/20/2014

8.) Swamp Fox - 02/20/2014
I just knew the Senior Skateboard Circuit was a bad idea, but did Billy listen? .....Nooo...He flipped me the bird and told me to get off his lawn...Crotchety old coot...

The good new is we might get a good-looking nurses report out of this to perk this site up a little, and Billy will be back to kicking asses and taking names in no time.

:tu:

Billy, If you don't or haven't made any preparations here's I few things to know. I have gone through this scenario. Creditors and other predators WILL COME AND TAKE everything you have. Even before any relations can get it. Look into a trust. A trust is a place where you can put your assets and designate who is in charge of the trust and NO ONE can get into it and take your assets. Look into an estate planning service they can help and explain everything to you.

A friend of mine's uncle passed and they lived on Oneida lake. The dwelling was left to the kids. 5 of them. Only one wanted the place while the others wanted the money from the sale of the place. Long story short. It was a nightmare. What happened was is that one of the kids was in big debt. So that creditor TOOK all the money from a forced sale and nobody got anything. If God forbid a nursing home was involved THEY have the legal right to TAKE everything you have. I just found out that a 529, ( a college savings fund for my son Tom )
is under my mom's name. If mom ends up in a home the home has the legal right to take that fund. It will be changed very soon. Some beneficiaries benefits can also be taken by the predators.

FACT..
A regular will won't protect things like you may think it would....

Listen up Tex. I'm heading to therapy in about 30 minutes and I'm going to be doing a bunch of stupid sissy stuff. Leg stretches, knee bends, line dancing, runway model walk, backwards treadmill, just a mess of crap.

Whenever you feel like quitting, just picture me up here in PA walking around like an idiot in front of a bunch of 70-80 yr olds sitting around working on finger movement for arthritis and getting some kind of stimulation from some electronic contraption. I really don't know what they're doing to them, but they seem peaceful enough. Just sitting there staring at me sweating to death doing squats and rubber band stretches. Everyone else is having a great time laughing and wearing party hats, and I'm like in Navy Seal training.

Really don't enjoy it at all, but if I'm sucking it up, you will too. Don't make me come down there and taunt you.

Seriously, take it at your pace, but keep moving forward. You've been through much worse than most all of us, you can do it.:tu:
59.) Jon - 02/27/2014

Whaaaaat?! He's more of a softy then I am. He made those big arms as a defensive mechanism so the Marines wouldn't pick on him on the ship. He'll tell you some other story, but it's true.

He'll show those arms to the Marines and they turn into sheep. No lie. Ask him.

He actually like you picking on him. You humor him.

97.) billy b - 03/27/2014
Ok boys, I'm still going to rehab but today I got my new prosthesis & believe it or not I can walk albeit very slowly. It's been a lonesome depressing haul but I am beginning to see the light. They tool out my frozen knee & installed it a new kind of replacement knee called a "hinged knee", plus they put a plate in my broken femur. They had to cut me from the center of my thigh to 5 inches below my knee cap. The incision has almost all healed & by manual manipulation I have 81 degrees bend in my knee, the outpatient rehab doc says after 2 more months we should get hopefully over 100 degrees. During this process & have lost 21 pounds but my appetite is beginning to come back some. Here is a you tube of installation of a hinge knee, If I would have watched it before the surgery I might have backed out, but it is interesting. I just want to say how much I appreciate all the prayers & well wishes & messages from all my pals on here, it helped more than you know & I will never forget it. Dont"t watch it if you have a weak stomach.

98.) Swamp Fox - 03/27/2014
Glad to hear you're doing better...Sorry I didn't know it wasn't a cakewalk. I've seen you lurking and always wonder "How come that knucklehead doesn't ever post anymore?"

Not sure where you lost the 21 pounds from but I can send you some BBQ on ice if you want...:wink

Outstanding! I'm glad to hear your recovery is progressing so well. A "hinged knee", eh? I've never heard of that before. Billy B: Body by Home Depot! :tu: {Insert Tim Allen grunt here}

When I first got cable TV many years ago my favorite channel, hands down, was the one where they just showed live surgical procedures. Fascinating stuff, especially having been under the knife myself quite a few times.
Hey Billy! I sure am happy to hear about your progress. Here's hoping that things keep coming along nicely for you. BTW, that video was kinda gross! :tap: Interesting too though....
Yuup it was gross but it just shows what the body can put up with, plus I now know why every step I take hurts like hell, but they say it will get better.

Actually my new knee is now bending 80 degrees, & as you know the one I came equipted with only had 15 degrees, so I am hopefully going to walk better after all is said & done. Come on down after mid April & we'll hit some of my brush piles. the crappie will be finished spawning & very hungry by then.

Billy, My 16-year-old son has a plan for his life which he came up with himself. He wants to graduate from high school (maintains a 4.2 GPA) and enter the Naval Academy to become a doctor. He says he can serve his country, help people and get an education without burdening his family with the costs. He calls this a "more than fair trade".

He watched that video of yours several times and no lie, actually took notes. He found it fascinating as did I but for me? I'm grateful you are blessed with technology that helps in very real ways, that the Lord is shining his grace on you and that your recovery is onward and upward.

Bob, your 16 year old son is very smart bend his years, I am one person who holds trauma surgeons in the highest regard, I would not be here without the help of my surgeon Paul Freudigman, he was my surgeon 11 years ago after my accident and also this time. About a month & a half after this accident I am better off than 11 years before, my knee now bends (needs more rehab) 87* and I can walk better than anytime in the last 11 years. I appreciate the support form all my H.C. friends & especially your e-mail, sometimes I just wanted to give up but the support kept me going thanks to my H.C.team. good luck to your son & my prayer is that he will some day help change the surgical world. My wish now is for this site to grow & seing all who left for petty reasons coming back, I miss it so much.

On top of all this other crap, I"VE GOT SHINGLES:bang:
130.) Swamp Fox - 05/07/2014
And probably not the fun kind...

I wonder if Crookedeye would be of any help in this situation...

I'm sorry for your troubles.

Hang in there, Billy!
131.) Ohbuckhunter - 05/07/2014
Sorry brother. Chin up and hope for a fast recovery.
132.) Hunter - 05/07/2014
Sorry for your struggles, Billy. Better days are ahead!
133.) Jon - 05/07/2014
Damn Billy, shingles are a royal pain in the (wherever you have them). I also had shingles and still have the scars. It's not pleasant BUT they do go away in a few weeks. Cold compress and something to help you sleep is the only help. Wishing you the best and keeping you in my prayers brother.
