LOL...Just a month or two ago I was thinking about crawfish boils...

I've been jonesing for mud-bugs ever since deer season ended the first week of January, and it hasn't helped that the harvest has been seriously delayed and generally impacted by the extended and intense winter the South has been experiencing. These were $7/lb, which is stupid expensive...but I didn't care. I had an addiction to take care of.

It's Fat Tuesday folks. Also Pancake Tuesday.

Wife made a King Cake.

Are you a head sucker?
6.) Swamp Fox - 03/04/2014
What size pot do you use? I think mine was 24 gallons but it's disappeared and I went looking for a new one late last year. Most of my cooking is for myself or a small group (let's say up to 5), but I think I'll get a big pot for larger groups as well.

Also, do you have an idea why a lot of turkey fry systems are labeled "for turkeys only"? Is there something about cooking oil vs. boiling water that you can't use the same pot/stand/burner for a boil as well as for a deep fry?

More of a scooper-of-thorax-stuff-using-my-finger, but the end result is the same.

I use the 50 qt (12.5 gal) aluminum pot that came with my King Kooker setup. I do boils just for small family gatherings, so it's always been big enough.

Beats me. I have a 30 qt pot that I use for deep fried turkey, but I don't know why a fry system would be "for turkeys only", seeing as how there's no real difference in the burners or the composition of the pots, as far as I can tell.

OH BABY!!!

GOOD STUFF right there:tu:
9.) DParker - 03/04/2014
BTW...peeking out just to the right (from the viewer's perspective) of the horseradish container is a plate of 8 large bacon-wrapped-and-cheese-stuffed-fried jalepeņos that my son and I split. Thank goodness for this stuff....

"for turkeys only"

It's about fowl cross contamination.

I've notice cutting boards labeled separately as well. Beef, Chicken, Seafood, Vegetables. With there own specific color.

Purpose-assigning cutting boards make sense, but an aluminum pot that's going to be full of boiling oil and thoroughly washed (like any other cooking vessel, one would hope) afterward?
12.) Floyd - 03/04/2014
Yep... silly. There have been other silly cautions placed on products.

I like the one on Top Gear that was read by Jeremy Clarkson concerning the Water ATV.
13.) Swamp Fox - 03/04/2014
Huh! That could be...

Don't women know how to wash stuff anymore? :tap::shocked::laugh:
14.) bluecat - 03/04/2014
Swampy, always get a woman with small feet. That way they can get closer to the sink. FYI.
15.) Swamp Fox - 03/04/2014
...
16.) DParker - 03/04/2014
And you know what they always say....small feet, big....er...wait, what?
17.) bluecat - 03/05/2014
What do you use the horseradish for? (Note: Never end a sentence with a preposition).
18.) Lonescout - 03/05/2014
Dang you suck!!!!
I was supposed to have a sack delivered up here this past weekend, but it fell through.
Do you know hard it is to get live LA mudbugs in PA.

Heck when we were down in Louisianna this past summer we missed the season again.
haven't had aa good crawfish boil in years.

I'm sure it's to spice things up in the kitchen.

Where's Sister Mary Elephant when you need her? I guess we'll have to make do with a substitute teacher...Loosen up, Hemmingway...:wink

Used to love me some Crawfish bisque with a side of home made cheesy crawfish bread .... when I was hanging out in Shreveport, LA.

If we were out for a boil I would opt for the gulf shrimp though .....
What do you use the horseradish for?
Personally, I use it as a convenient reference marker for pointing out where the bacon-wrapped-and-cheese-stuffed-fried jalepeņos are. But the lady at the next table was spooning it onto crackers, dousing it with Louisiana hot sauce and wolfing it down. It was quite impressive.

My apologies for the delayed answer. I foolishly thought I was going to skate by without the flu hitting me this year, but it caught up with me this week and I've been doped up on Nyquil and the History channel, feeling like 5 gallons of crap in a 2 gallon bucket.

Can everything eaten in Texas be used as a paint stripper?

Hope you get to feelin' better.
Can everything eaten in Texas be used as a paint stripper?
Only the good stuff. My own evolution on that hit a turning point when I realized that I was no longer eating sushi for the flavor of the fresh fish, but using it as a delivery vehicle for wasabi (or rather the horseradish-based pseudo wasabi that is substituted for the far-more-expensive real thing in this country).
Hope you get to feelin' better.
Thanks. I'm disappointed that the spicy bugs didn't innoculate me. I thought the stupid grin they always put on my face could cure/prevent anything. Another illusion shattered.
